I just bought today a Lexus Gx470 and I am loving it, I am glad I got to your videos. I just came back to the states after 15 years in the middle east, I had so much fun off roading in UAE and Oman. Want to do the same here now that I am back. You video is deffo going to give me good ideas.
I just bought my first Prado 120 4.0 V6 with full spec 2005. Air suspension and KDSS...great off road car and for long distance also. I sold my 2014 Kizashi over for 9 years older Land Cruiser was the best decision. The prices of LC 120 are sky rocketing in Europe, so in 3-5 years I wont be losing a single cent invested if I decide to sell it. 👌
Great video Chris! I'm so glad that the Black Bear is working out so well for your adventuring desires! Also, yes I got a little misty eyed seeing the gorgeous views, seriously the mountains in Arizona are so beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing as always! ❤️
Awesome! GX looks great and appears to perform beautifully! We’re still debating on the all-terrain tires for the Jeep, Falcon, Cooper...who knows. I like the roof crossbars they’re nice and sleek. Video turned out great and the vehicle is great! By the way, the wood trim, is actually wood, but they tinker with it to give it a different look and strength.
Much quieter then the Jeep Chris. We can hear you talk a lot better, LOL. Looks like everything handled well. hope you and Neils can get together and do some adventures soon.
Also i like this series youre coming up with, its genuinely interesting to see what you're building up! Notifications are on, can't wait to see what you cook up
I really enjoy your budget builds. I plan on some time soon looking into my own budget off- road vehicle and you have given some great ideas and insight on how to go about it. Loving the vids.
Just found your channel and really enjoying it. I just bought a 40 ac property off of arizona rd in Ash fork. Its a pretty bumpy ride into the property on arizona rd. I just bought a 2009 lexus gx 470 hoping it will be better suited for the drive in and out when i finally move there. Right now I have stock suspension on my gx 470. How would you compare the stock ride with a bit of speed over a straight rocky arizona roads compared with the new suspension you have added . Ive been told the stock suspension with the air bags is a pretty smooth ride. Hoping i can do the front and back shocks as you but keep the air bags for the towing.
Very informative video Chris, love the solid overview of suspension/wheel upgrades and how it performs on the trail. I too have JKU Rubicon, but been thinking about a second more comfortable vehicle to do longer road trips with the wifey.
That’s an AWD vehicle. Always in “4wheel drive “ with 70/30 split until you hit center diff lock then does 50/50 torque split . Transfer case has 4 lo to gear down . It uses ATRAC which computer controls wheel slippage via brakes to send power to wheel with traction .
only thing for the budget build video, i would of liked a bit more elbow grease in it, see parts coming out and new parts going in. need a split cam of over hood and under front bumper give it some more depth.
Mr.Chis I’m a huge fan of yours nothing awesomeness. I have a gx470 and I want 5160 but when ever I look at the toyota specific 5160 the reservoir looks a lot smaller than other 5160s out there. I was wondering how big it is on your gx?
I didn’t hear a cost break down? Since it’s a budget build I’d like to hear what you paid for the 470, as well as how much you’ve invested in it with the up grades. Thanks man!
Hey Chris, awesome looking Gx!! Some people seem to be concerned about running a 33” tire on the 7” wide trd pro rims. Do you have any concerns about them? Asking bc I want to run the same setup you’ve got!! Thanks!
I have these tires with the same rims. 285/70/17. They will fit but you need to do some modifications. Trim the fender liner. They also rub on full lock turn. That bothered me so ended up getting a body mount chop. And hammering some of the pinch welds.
Great video. if i get a 470 ill probably use some of your ideas as a template for one i get. i have not decided if i would get a 460 but those come with kdss and i dont think i want that feature.
Chris, can you tell me what your GX measured out at for overall height? I've been thinking about building a GX but would like to park in my garage, which is 7ft high.
What other old good reliable car good you buy other than the land cruiser and Lexus. I would love to buy one but they’re pretty rare in the condition and price you found yours,, have you ever looked into 97 or 05 grand Cherokees ??
Great video Chris I would like to ride an easy track up on the mountains with my family with my gx Do you have any suggestions where to go and shoot a footage? I appreciate you Thank you 🙏
Im only guessing but because of the tyres would the ride be unsuitable or not really suited for roads, so it wouldn't be a everyday drive ? So how much time and effort to change tyres if need be ?
asking here as i dont know if you guys read comments on your yaw channel. are the items from your merchandise store shipped from the US and are there extra charges on top of shipping when it crosses the boarder like duties?
Pretty cool. What size engine? Is the 6 powerful enough or should i look for and 8? I have a 4 dr Jeep but also would like GX to build for overlanding. Thanks!
Hey there, random question: does your shifter actually stay in place when dropped down to L position? Mine will engage the shift but the knob does not stay in place like in our LX. It just pulls back to the left (2) position.
There's a little metal pin and spring held inside of a plastic housing/sheath. That plastic is likely broken/split. Does it also not stay in 4 and push itself back to D? If this is the case, you can try putting a tiny hose clamp around the plastic housing after putting it all back together (the pin sometimes falls out when this happens, might have to hunt for it).
@@kylebacc That was precisely the issue. I dug in a few weeks ago and found that it had popped out. I created a custom pin and spring. I'm in the process of getting a bulk order made for others to purchase :)
4lo allows you to go slow. If you think fast and bouncing is smart, hope you have a large repair budget, dummy. Dummies do not, it’s the irony. Airing down to at least 20psi, to start, also saves suspension components, the driver comfort and control within, and most obviously increases the footprint which increases traction. Also in a automatic, stay out of D. Select your 1-2-3 specific gear. 1st lets you crawl up and down, but requires more braking as the torque is pushing. So it depends if you want to ride brakes and go to 2nd. D, you will take off out of control after each bump and rock and it’s just not smart. Make sure you are in 4lo before you need it. Often, dummies get in bad situations trying to play and not be serious and then can not get into 4H or 4 lo because of position. Even more so for activating the rear locker, as this requires rotation usually to engage - which can not be done when stuck. When the rear locker is locked, both wheels turn, meaning traction or if sliding, sliding sideways. Without axel lockers activated, your vehicle can not slide sideways easily. It depends on the situation I’d sliding sideways is acceptable. Traction control aids like terrain select will operate differently in 4H or 4L. Almost always, engine output is limited in 4H and never in 4L. This means no power or power cut off in bad situations making it worse. Always be in 4L if you may need it. Terrain select will using the AbS (brakes) to limit wheel spin. Rock mode reduces spin the most. Sand give you the most wheel spin. No, when climbing steep hills slowly, you absolutely do not want your tires slipping if you are controlled climbing. In mud, if you get wild then maybe ... damage is likely of course. Locking the rear locker will drastically reduce your turning ability. The wheels spin at different rates when turning, locked, one will have to slip. Unlock before the turn. Unlocking during the turn when the massive pressure is on the rear drive train is better than not unlocking in some cases but it’s a lot of pressure thousands of pounds on the electronic locking devices. It will wear them. Or unlock while stopped and try to give slack to the drive train someway. This is the same but worse for front and rear lockers locked. Speed increases wears damage, and mistakes. Going slow through a trail in first low will quadruple your decision and execution time than second gear. Professional off readers go slowly. They know this stuff. They are not concerned how they think they may look like a child. So they go slow, pick lines, understand what contact points are possible to drag, and readjust and backup if needed when the scraping sound starts. Only dummies continue to do dumb stuff once they know and they always pay big for it. Service and parts, down time, and even being stranded on the trail. Or worsen causing trouble for other drivers because of poor decision making skills and inability to learn and adapt. It’s so much fun to drive it perfect, have zero damage, and get home.
I ended up with a jeep grand cherokee, but because of you... I was searching hard for that lexus and similar ones lol. Timing just didn't work out for that. So far I'm happy. No off roading yet though.
Cars with Chris is definitely something I'd watch
pro tip : you can watch series at kaldroStream. Been using them for watching lots of of movies during the lockdown.

Great angles roading man! I’m fuckin impressed haha honestly
The camera angels w the drone? I’m assuming
Have you ever ride this car with stock suspension on this roads ?
How do you put your gx-470 in 2wd? I thought it was full-time 4WD.
only thing for the budget build video, i would of liked a bit more elbow grease in it, see parts coming out and new parts going in. need a split cam of over hood and under front bumper give it some more depth.

Awesome vid Chris! Any plans for Can We Survive this year?
This is looking killer!

really good video! very well made!
This is going to be good.
Hi I have a question.
is LEXUS GX470 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Does it look like a Toyota prado TRANSMISSION???
And can I install it in Lexus gx470?
I’m getting ready to dig into the stock suspension on my Gx. I don’t want to do a lift though. Any suggestion?
Love the video meaty
I hope you will have stage 2 and stage 3
Will helping me a lot
What’s the link for the roof rack you have your truck ?
Do you change the water pump and timing chain in your GX ?????????
Hey meaty what is your favorite customs zombies map in cod
Can you go more in depth on the traction/ limited slip systems and show us how on a given obstacle?
Chris, can you tell me what your GX measured out at for overall height? I've been thinking about building a GX but would like to park in my garage, which is 7ft high.
Great video 👍

Hey Chris, Can you provide a list of the components you added to your build? Maybe a few links to purchase? Many thanks
So you fixed the A track? What sensor was bad?
Hey Chris! Enjoyed the video. Can you recommend anyone that can do the suspension modifications you described in this video?
chris from YAW???
What other old good reliable car good you buy other than the land cruiser and Lexus. I would love to buy one but they’re pretty rare in the condition and price you found yours,, have you ever looked into 97 or 05 grand Cherokees ??
Are the wheels cosmetic or do they fit different tires than the stock wheels?
Hi Chris, can you share your mod specs with us? e.g. the suspension, spring, wheel and tires you used. Thanks.
Great video Chris
I would like to ride an easy track up on the mountains with my family with my gx
Do you have any suggestions where to go and shoot a footage?
I appreciate you
Thank you 🙏
Nice video. Which model year is your GX Chris? Thanks
hell yeah, nice work. could you past some links to the parts?
Im only guessing but because of the tyres would the ride be unsuitable or not really suited for roads, so it wouldn't be a everyday drive ?
So how much time and effort to change tyres if need be ?
no it is perfect on road. all terrain tires
Hey Chris , would like to know where you order the roof cross bars from?
Off road in the black bear Lexus.
Looks like the ride is harsh.
asking here as i dont know if you guys read comments on your yaw channel. are the items from your merchandise store shipped from the US and are there extra charges on top of shipping when it crosses the boarder like duties?
What happened to the Rebel?
Can you send me links to the mods you added to your GX 470?
Chris,
Cannot catch the name of the roof rack crossbars you have on your GX. Would like to look into those. Thanks
Rago fab
Pretty cool. What size engine?

I have a 4 dr Jeep but also would like GX to build for overlanding.
Thanks!
All gx have a 4.7L v8 engine

What upgrades would you recommend for someone with a pretty small budget? (maybe less than 1.5k)
I was like... How did I already comment on this??
Hi I’m hardcore looking into getting a GX for some overlanding and was wondering, what kinda price range did these mods run you?
$25k - $30k depending on mileage
Is it really as quiet & smooth as it looks? Wow awesome truck!
Jammm... haha
