    Great video and tips my guy. But a couple corrections. The VVTI is definitely better when it comes to a bit more power but also has secondary air injection system issues that the 03/04 don’t have. Bypass kit usually works in non smog states. sport models were available from 05-09. Also available with tan interior as well, with the black wood trim and black upper panels in addition to the grey you mentioned. Just more rare

    You want to review some KDSS videos or look at Toyota video on the KDSS. You make it sound like a boulevard cruiser perk, which is definitly is, but the main reason is part of the Land Cruiser, GX 70, GX460 and the off road 4 runner is the off road articulation it brings. A prudent piece of advice would be a great working system for the off roader but is expensive to fix, although, rare to fail but the biggest issue is it make some modifications of the suspension difficult.
    The SAIS can be an issue but there are fixes for that and front calipers has piston seizure issues. Especially the bottom piston.

    03 is the best year and you want the non Navigation model so you can update your head unit without needing to reprogram the center dash like a newer one that came with the stock navi. Another plus is serviceable transmission because you have a dip stick.

    Thanks for the viideo, i found an 05 GX with 236k miles. Has had the air suspension replaced with coil. Due for timing belt and will need exhaust manifold replaced/repaired at some point. Clean with no rust though for $6400. Thinking i will purchase it.

    Good video but I just need to correct you about the KDSS system. It actually has more articulation off road compared to non-kdss because it also acts as a sway bar disconnect when I tire is off the ground it releases hydraulic pressure from that side and will let that wheel drop farther than a non KDSS because it essentially disconnects the sway bar. I personally own a sport model with KDSS.

  • @j_freed
    @j_freed 2 роки тому +2

    Centre Diff Lock should never be engaged on a clear road surface, and doing that is really straining the drivetrain because the wheels cannot rotate at different speeds when cornering. Better to do that on dirt!

    • @iamchaunceman
      @iamchaunceman Рік тому

      Yes! It makes it work like a traditional part time 4wd so same rules would apply. No driving on DRY pavement, especially when turning and keep it below 50 in 4w hi. I rarely even need to lock my center diff surprisingly. Nice to have the option.

  • @kevinsheehan983

    Great video. I'm new at looking at these. I like simple vehicles. But my commute can get crazy in the winter so AWD is preferred over 4x4. Been driving an '05 Grand Cherokee slightly lifted.
    I want body on frame AWD so GX is good choice. But I want to stay away from air suspension. Like I said I want simple. Do all GX have air suspension?

    • @OfficialSus
      @OfficialSus  Рік тому

      My GX does incredible in the snow. Just make sure you grab some triple peak rated tires!
      But yes all GX470s have rear air suspension from the factory. But switching to coils is only a $300 job
      Some have KDSS which is a hydraulic sway bar system you have to work around when lifting and stuff!

    • @j_freed
      @j_freed 2 роки тому +3

      A low mileage vehicle isn’t necessarily in better mechanical condition, especially if it’s been sitting around or neglected…
      You might prefer to buy a high mileage vehicle which has good maintenance records, because then these drive trains will never fail.

    I am looking at 2004 GX470, 143K miles with an updated android Phoenix Hud. It was driven by an older couple and has been maintained very well. What kind of price do you all think is fare?

    • @OfficialSus
      @OfficialSus  2 роки тому +1

      Oh man as much as I wish I could give you a fair price there are so many other factors that go into pricing, which is why I tried to stay clear of specific price points in this video! Location is probably the biggest thing, GXs in Washington are going for WAY more than GXs in Arizona so the pricing variations are a bit hard to pinpoint. I would do some research into what GXs are going for in your area and then judge it off that!

    • @OfficialSus

      For an 04' I feel that is so high I have seen several 09s going for 20k in the 150k-200k mile range, an 04 has none of the bells and whistles. I mean here is an 07' at an overpriced dealership in Washington going for 19k www.overlandtruckstore.com/default.asp?page=xInventoryDetail&p=2&id=10402739&s=Year&d=D&fr=xAllInventory
      Personally I feel if they are asking 17.5k for that year and mileage, 12-15k would be more appropriate.
