I rewatched the final season last month and got full body goosebumps watching the final scene when Darth Vader (Anakin) turned on Ahsoka's lightsaber and we watch him walk away in the reflection of a dead clone trooper's helmet. It was peak cinema and reminded me of why I love Star Wars so damn much. Also, I loved how when Vader looked up, you could see The Daughter's owl spirit flying above him. It showed that Ahsoka was still alive but whether Vader realized that or not is up to interpretation.
The Clone Wars is some of my favorite Star Wars media out there. I love rewatching different episodes and arcs and seeing how the show progressed and matured over time. Particularly loved what you said about how the show was given time to grow and if it had come out today, it might not have been given a second season. I think that's especially true given the negative reactions to the film - I'm not even sure if a show would be greenlit after that performance if it had come out today! Excited to see the rest of this series!
Thanks for tuning in man! Gotta give you credit, your recent TWD and GoT videos inspired me to do a season by season review of the clone wars. So thank you for that!
The thing about the Clone Wars movie was that it was really just a few clone wars arcs Lucas wanted to put on the big screen. I don't think having a movie promote an upcoming series was a bad idea, but they could've found a better plot to have for it. In my opinion, the Malevolence should've been the plot for the movie, but tweaked to introduce Ahsoka and work as a movie instead of episodes.
I really liked the clone wars movie, but I think of it as the “Pilot” of the show, not a movie. It’s basically one arc all pushed together. I loved it, especially the battle of Teth which was just AWESOME. Not to mention Anakin VS Dooku at the end.
@@rahasanum the movie is bad, but the show is great! Season 1's animation is a little janky but I'm glad it got better as the series went on. I watch it during the pandemic and was blown away by how good it was. And I didn't even watch the show when it came out, I thought it wasn't for me at the time.
@ nah the cool thing about the clone wars for me was that was MY Star Wars growing up. We obviously had the 6 OG movies out but clone wars came out when I was a kid. I remember getting all the toys, the lunch boxes, the shirts and just all the commercials and everything. It was everywhere and every Friday night I would sit down with my family and watch it. If the clone wars didn’t exist I don’t think I would be into Star Wars as much. The movies were good but lacked the detail and depth of the show. S1 is still the most iconic and some of the best Star Wars we’ve gotten. Even from the beginning the show wasn’t scared to take risks, like killing characters on screen from a blast shot or stabbing and people getting their heads chopped off lol. Definitely a bit violent and they would never show it in the movies but that was part of the fun. S1 will always be iconic for me and I will always love this show.
I'll always appreciate Hayden's performance across his movies and shows but I 100% agree that Matt Lanter is the best Anakin. He's the reason Anakin is my favorite character.
Clone Wars Anakin and movie Anakin seem different but are actually the same. It’s just that the movies mostly covered the most traumatic times of Anakin’s life. Whereas the actual war was the peak of his life. In II, he has visions about his mom dying, and then his mom dies. In III he has visions of Padmé dying and he does what he does to stop that from happening again. But during the war, he’s married, a knight, is best buds with Obi-Wan, has a padawan he’s training, and is the most loved Jedi on the Holonet. This happy, confident Anakin is even seen during the opening of III while rescuing the Chancellor. But as soon as he finds out Padmé is pregnant, he reverts and everything goes South from there. All this to say, both Anakins are the same Anakin.
@@Tiran654LP it might just be me, but I think key elements from that show are still canon. The fight with Ventress, Anakins knighting, and the attack on Coruscant
So from what I’ve seen online a lot of people dislike this season. Even though it’s not perfect, not as good as the others, S1 is 1. A great introduction for the series. 2. Has great story arcs with small little moments that are really nice, I.e. Ryloth, Rookies, and Malevolence Arc, and it also has small tidbits like E1 with Yoda showing clones how to be more than just faceless fighters in a war. 3. Good character development for a lot of characters we don’t see much, like Aayla Secura, Plo Koon, and Luminara Unduli. It’s a great pilot season and overall whilst it’s not perfect it’s still a very enjoyable season to watch through.

Obviously filoni took the criticism of anakins character but the in universe answer would be the clone wars and anakin fighting with his clones was when he was genuinely happy and you see that at the beginning of revenge of the Sith. In attack of the clones he’s confused and frustrated in revenge of the Sith he immediately learns padme is pregnant and the rest of the movie is him in constant worry
Anyone remember how they made a Lego Clone Wars game based on the first 2 seasons? I was disappointed they didn't do the same with the rest of the seasons or try to condense the whole series in one Lego game like the Complete Saga condensed the prequel and original trilogy lego games.

season 1 actually has some of my all time favourite episodes of the entire show. the first episode with yoda kicking ass is amazing. its the most badass yoda episode ever and he is even more badass there than in the last three episodes of season 6. i also love the lair of grievous since kit fisto is my favourite jedi and this episode and the mon cala episodes in season 4 are the only episodes that have much of kit fisto in action. rookies is an amazing clone episode that sees the domino squad on rishi when rex and cody arrive to meet them. hevys sacrifice in the end of that episode is so good. i also really love the lurmen people episodes since its so ayla secura centered. and the lurmen people have a really amazing scottish accent which i love. also the ryloth arc which sees the cute numa together with waxer and boil and mace windu teaming up with cham syndulla to liberate ryloth. i also really love cad banes introduction in the finalle for this season, he is my all time favourite bounty hunter and every episode of the entire show that features him is amazing.

I never had a chance to watch the series when it first aired, but I finally watched the whole thing about four years ago. I was almost 50 at that time, and I absolutely loved it. I bought the boxed set, and have rewatched the series twice since then. I agree with a lot of what was said here, especially how Clone Wars Anakin is far superior to prequels Anakin. This is basically the character I imagined him to be before we got the prequels. And his fall is more tragic than that of the prequels character. I liked Ahsoka a lot, and really liked how they showed the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin, and some key steps along the way where Anakin moved closer and closer to the dark side.
I remember watching this show every Friday night at my grandma's house. Every new episode I caught was pepeak. It truly was my whole childhood and I'm glad I experienced it all. I'll never forget this experience
For me, AOTC+ROTS Anakin and TCW Anakin are basically two people - TCW Anakin feels way older than the teen from the prequels and more emotionally grounded. Heck - the voice actor was close to 30 years old back then, while Hayden was barely 21 when AOTC was released.
You made a good point about how if season 1 was made now it probably would've beeen cancelled because it didn't become an instant hit. It really makes me wonder what potential some shows of today could have been in the future if certain companies weren't so giddy to cram as much shows as possible into their streaming service, thus putting them in an unofficial competition that leads to most of them getting cancelled if they don't reach an invisible bar. And this why you gotta love George Lucas. While profit was his goal, he didn't let that distract him from making the story he wants. And the fact he was a storyteller with full control over his vision meant factors that decide content made by certain companies (such as stock, viewership, etc) didn't have much impact in what he was doing. As such, he was willing to trust The Clone Wars into dedicated people's hands and give it the chance to be fleshed out into what it is now. Disney doesn't get this, and it's honestly sad. The same prequel-based shows they've pushed out (Ahsoka, The Bad Batch, Obi-Wan, etc) wouldn't even be possible if George Lucas acted like them and cancelled The Clone Wars from season 1 because it wasn't the next Breaking Bad.
I was 10 when the first episode premiered and I remember looking forward to it so much cause I loved Revenge of the Sith and wanted to know more about the war they were fighting in it. I'm 26 now and I still love this show just as much now as I did then.
Yep. I started watching this at 15 (I never really had that teenager dislike of cartoons) and now it makes me feel old realizing how far back that was.
Hi! great vid, I think they gave Ashoka to Anakin precisely because he was not super ready for it, to ground him and make him grow... sure he was not ready, but getting the Padawan made him ready!
It's widely known that Ahsoka wasn't a fan favourite at the start but that absolute did not apply to me and my brothers, all of us were preteens and projected hard onto a younger, snippy, force user who was hanging round anakin and obiwan who we had gotten attached to prior.. Now 15 years later people my age also don't remember finding her annoying or underdeveloped etc. Perspectives.
I had a problem with ashoka for years. It wasnt until i fully watched the clone wars to have understand of what she represents in the skywalker saga. I think they wrote her more as a kid reflection of the audience, but soon realized that writing her as an able jedi was the better and safer approach.
It was this very show that introduced me to Star Wars in the first place. I had no idea who Vader, Han Solo, Luke or Chewbacca were. But names like Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, Cad Bane & General Grievous have been carved into my brain since 2009
On the topic of the villains the reoccurring ones do triumph in their last appearances: Ventress does her job incriminating the jedi for the capture of Rotta and rescues Nute Gunray. Grievous disposed of the Rishi Outpost (which comes back during a key moment in S3), his campaign with the Malevolence is largely successful and he passes Dooku's test by defending his base against the jedi strike team
I really enjoyed the first few seasons of Clone Wars ( I love all of them) but the onoy thing I hate is, how they put Ahsoka, a young teenager fighting in a war, in a tube top and thought "yeah, that's appropriate"
Whenever I rewatch the series, I always have to remind myself that first 6ish episodes are ROUGH There's a scene where Admiral Yularen (as I type this I can't remember if it's him or Anakin.... my bad) is hurt is so bright you can BARELY see the other characters standing around him. Episode 7 there is a noticeable improvement. I loved this series growing up (watching it every episode on Star Wars website back when that was a thing).
These are, perhaps, a bit premature considerations, given that we are only in the first season...however, if I have to make a negative observation about CW (amidst several weak points, but also good plot points), it is all inherent in the choice of the main protagonists. Okay, Kenobi and Anakin became particularly famous during the War, but it would have been much more interesting to see the interactions between the two dealing with other Jedi. For example, instead of giving Anakin a padawan directly linked to him, one could start - already in the first season - to weave a relationship between Anakin and Kenobi as Master and padawan about to become a knight (the ceremony could very well take place at the end of the first or second season, so we can see the evidence), with Plo Koon and Ahsoka alongside. We spectators would have seen the different approach of the two boys compared to their teachers, Kenobi and Koon being quite similar in the way they relate to others. In short, I find that too much focus has been placed on characters that, ultimately, we already knew from the films, to the detriment of the development of other Jedi. Connected to this point, the episodic structure and the fact of having to refer back to the narrative of the films prevented the construction of a more nuanced separatist front: in the sense, an attempt was made to create a situation similar to what was seen on the republican front (with the pro faction -palpatine, and the one aimed at seeking a diplomatic solution), but in my point of view it was too little, and I don't even blame the show for it, considering who the leaders of the separatists were. Small side note: the series has definitely massacred the characterization of Grievous compared to how he appeared in the 2D series.
I convinced my older brother to watch The Clone Wars, but he absolutely hated it, even though I said it got better every season. He stopped watching during the third season right before the Nightsisters ark... Sometimes I wish I had a friend with whom I could watch my favorite shows.
My biggest pain point with S1 is knowing there are many people who watched it and didn’t enjoy it enough (bc of the number of cookie cutter episodes) to continue to the remaining seasons where the show gets so incredibly good.
The idea of letting star wars be multiple character storylines was the best decision they could have made. Because it makes the world feel massive and like an actual universe
I think Headland was and did good with what she had. I think the limitations that Disney provides for Disney+ projects, along with her story being cut before it got a proper conclusion, is what makes The Acolyte feel sour. And bc Disney/Lucasfilm feels it’s okay to cut stories off before they get their conclusive ending, is now why besides a few comics and Andor S2, is what has made me finally done with the future of Star Wars.
I sometimes need to be reminded that star wars is for kids. I grew up with this show, and although I see the flaws now, I ignore them all. The new shows may not be perfect, but I enjoy them. And if I, a college kid, enjoy them, then I hope the elementary and middle school kids love them
So many good memories with this show but the first two seasons in particular. When I was little we traveled alot but it was before smart phones and tablets so all I had was a DVD player and a choice of a few DVDs. I watched seasons 1 and 2 of the clone wars probably 10 times each during those long car trips. I love this show so much, easily my favorite animated show of all time its so good.
I’ve watched the clone wars series seasons 1-7 all the way through 3 times since finally getting around to it in early 2021, I was born in 2001 and was the perfect age to grow up with it on Cartoon Network but I really only saw glimpses of it I never really gave it a chance until 3 years ago. I absolutely love the show, and also Star Wars rebels as well. And even the bad batch season 1-3 are great, animated Star Wars hits different then all the live action sludge Disney has pumped out, I only really love andor and mando s1 and 2. I hope we get more animated Star Wars projects
season 1 was not the weakest season of clone wars! it is the best season! and i am writing this not because of nostalgic reasons... its the best season for me because its world building.
A lot of people disregard season 1 as not being that great and while I do think it is the weakest season I by no means think it’s bad. Only a few episodes are truly bad but even then I still appreciate them. Still a B tier season imo
Definitely agree with the Separatists being portrayed as cartoonishly evil here. Ironically Bad Batch did a far better job at humanizing the Separatists than the show that actually centered around them as antagonists.
Also did you know in the clone wars comic before plo koon talked in the clone wars, he spoke a different language and wasn’t understandable to the clones
Are you doing all of the seasons? I love The Clone Wars, but it was one of those shows that started weak and got much better as it went on. I don't really care that much for the first 2 seasons tbh. Season 3 was the first season I fully liked and season 4 was the first one I fully loved.
@@thegoldman25 Bro I can't wait for your coverage of the Darth Maul arc and Ahsoka leaving the Jedi order storyline. None of the Star Wars movies have topped those yet imo.
Hi Goldman. I agree with you that the separatist are not all evil people, and a majority of them are just fighting for their freedom. However, like Nute Gunray, Wat Tambor was in charge of a corporation, Lok Durd was a weapons developer for the Trade Federation, and Nuvo Vindi was commissioned by the separatists to recreate the blue shadow virus. I do think the show should’ve done a better job at showing us more nuance with the separatists, but it’s completely reasonable that those three, plus Nute Gunray are only in it to fill their pockets and care nothing for the cause.

Is it a hot take that I prefer the early seasons of the clone wars over the later seasons. The early seasons seem more expansive and we just see more random interesting stories
I first watched the show in it's entirety as an adult, previously my only exposure to this Clone Wars was that subpar movie. We never had cable and access to better programming when I was a kid so i missed out on a lot of cartoons and animations a lot of other kids grew up with. The clones have always been my favorite parts of Star Wars, I would often check out Star Wars Republic comics from my local library and I was excuted to see a show all about the clones especially since by the time I did watch it fully earlier this year it had ben fully completed and had high praise. Thing is...season one is rough, really rough. It feels very "kid show" a lot of the times, whyh comically evil villains like from a saturday morning cartoon, forcing the cringy skyguy/snips nickname thing, and emphasized Jar Jar's clumsiness and incompetence. I was pretty frustrated at times watching it. Personally I much prefer shen Star Wars is for all audiences like the original trulogy compared to be aiming itself directly at children. Maybe its because im nearly 30 years old but I hate the cheesy kid show stuff. Nobody is saying Star Wars needs to be edgy, but it goes too far in the opposite direction for my liking too many times during this season.
You should do a video on what gaurdians guardians of the galaxy teaches us about toxic masculinity no character represents this more than yondu who was in a crew of ravagers where he had to pretend to be something he isn't just to fit in with his crew.
Season 1 is a mixed bag for me! It’s so nostalgic for me but it’s not very well made and the characters are very annoying(ok only Ashoka but still) I love Cody’s episodes though!
I thought the idea of combining 3 to four episodes into an individual plot was a good idea, perfectly straddling the line between plot oriented and episodic
In canon, Thrawn actually learns the Star Destroyer move after Anakin tells him about in Alliances. Nice way of bringing that Easter egg full circle.
Oh good catch, I read that book but must’ve missed it

Good point!
Re watching this series for the first time since watching it on Cartoon Network, this is one that is actually even better than I remember
Amazing! Definately looking forward to the next ones. These are going to be bids I come back to again and again.
The fact some fans are turning on this series is baffling. This is a beautiful series.
>Literal Coolest Thing Ever
>”This sucks actually”
it's from the anti-filoni sentiment and that everything from Disney besides Andor is bad
My favorite episode was Rookies. It is still my favorite episode of the entire series.
" Should we take prisoners?"
" I... Dont."
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️🗣️
It was this very show that introduced me to Star Wars in the first place. I had no idea who Vader, Han Solo, Luke or Chewbacca were. But names like Anakin, Ahsoka, Rex, Cad Bane & General Grievous have been carved into my brain since 2009
On the topic of the villains the reoccurring ones do triumph in their last appearances:
Ventress does her job incriminating the jedi for the capture of Rotta and rescues Nute Gunray. Grievous disposed of the Rishi Outpost (which comes back during a key moment in S3), his campaign with the Malevolence is largely successful and he passes Dooku's test by defending his base against the jedi strike team
So hyped for your videos about the seasons. Would be super cool if you could do them back to back weekly 👍🏻👍🏻
The plan is to actually do 2 a week, but I don’t like to announce that in the event things change
@@thegoldman25 jo 2 a week sounds really good, I’m excited man 👍🏻 hope nothing happens
I think the comically evil pays off as in later seasons we see separatists who aren’t evil and it gives us more perspective
I really enjoyed the first few seasons of Clone Wars ( I love all of them) but the onoy thing I hate is, how they put Ahsoka, a young teenager fighting in a war, in a tube top and thought "yeah, that's appropriate"
They retconned that in tales of the jedi and the flashbacks live action show.
still one of the best tv shows to ever exist
Whenever I rewatch the series, I always have to remind myself that first 6ish episodes are ROUGH
There's a scene where Admiral Yularen (as I type this I can't remember if it's him or Anakin.... my bad) is hurt is so bright you can BARELY see the other characters standing around him. Episode 7 there is a noticeable improvement. I loved this series growing up (watching it every episode on Star Wars website back when that was a thing).
I never even knew that they were featurettes. I have a lot of viewing to do today 😂
They are really fun to watch
Don’t analyze too much, UA-cam might not like that. (Dude RIP overanalyzed I was so excited for ROTS)
I appreciate the support! Sorry it didn’t pan out
I was so looking forward for ROTS
@@thegoldman25 don’t be sorry, if it was up to you it would continue. It’s UA-cam who should apologize 😭
And it’s still not complete! The “final season” was only 12 of 52 unfinished episodes from when disney cancelled the series! #completetheclonewars
Ohhh, I’m excited for this series. 🎉
Love that you used the thumbnail from the dvd!!!! Keep that trend up with yoda for s2
You bet!
Really good points, I’ll consider that
@@thegoldman25 🍻
This is where the fun begins!
Enjoy!
great. hyped for the next season video.
Hoping to release it in the coming days!
@@thegoldman25 great 😃
I think season 3 of the clone wars is where the clone wars starts to get really good
I can’t wait to discuss it!
This is my favorite show

Will do!
I still can't believe that the voice actor for Obi Wan is HAHAHAHAHAHA Tidus from FFX

I convinced my older brother to watch The Clone Wars, but he absolutely hated it, even though I said it got better every season. He stopped watching during the third season right before the Nightsisters ark... Sometimes I wish I had a friend with whom I could watch my favorite shows.
dont make him watch the filler then just the actual arcs. theres a list online of the must view episodes
I’m lucky my friends all watched it, sorry you didn’t have that same experience
I’m looking forward to the season 2 review
My biggest pain point with S1 is knowing there are many people who watched it and didn’t enjoy it enough (bc of the number of cookie cutter episodes) to continue to the remaining seasons where the show gets so incredibly good.
giving anakin a padawan was a weird decision
Agreed, but I like it
The idea of letting star wars be multiple character storylines was the best decision they could have made.
It is really unfortunate
I sometimes need to be reminded that star wars is for kids. I grew up with this show, and although I see the flaws now, I ignore them all. The new shows may not be perfect, but I enjoy them. And if I, a college kid, enjoy them, then I hope the elementary and middle school kids love them
Looking forward to this!
Tales of the jedi was also really good, speacially the count dooku stuff.
season 1 was not the weakest season of clone wars! it is the best season! and i am writing this not because of nostalgic reasons... its the best season for me because its world building.
A lot of people disregard season 1 as not being that great and while I do think it is the weakest season I by no means think it’s bad. Only a few episodes are truly bad but even then I still appreciate them. Still a B tier season imo
My favorite story of this season would be the Ryloth arc. Each played a good part in battle and character development of those in the episodes.
It’s probably my favorite too
Whenever i watch that ark now im just filled with depression because i know what will happen to waxer.
Definitely agree with the Separatists being portrayed as cartoonishly evil here. Ironically Bad Batch did a far better job at humanizing the Separatists than the show that actually centered around them as antagonists.
I usually skip seasons one and two except for certain episodes I enjoy.
Awesome vid
I appreciate that, thanks!
Also did you know in the clone wars comic before plo koon talked in the clone wars, he spoke a different language and wasn’t understandable to the clones
They actually mentioned that in the featurettes
Are you doing all of the seasons? I love The Clone Wars, but it was one of those shows that started weak and got much better as it went on. I don't really care that much for the first 2 seasons tbh. Season 3 was the first season I fully liked and season 4 was the first one I fully loved.
Yes, I will do all the seasons
@@thegoldman25 Bro I can't wait for your coverage of the Darth Maul arc and Ahsoka leaving the Jedi order storyline. None of the Star Wars movies have topped those yet imo.
Man, if only they remastered the whole show, to match the animation/art quality we got in the Final Season
Let's GOOOOO!
Enjoy!
I do think the show should’ve done a better job at showing us more nuance with the separatists, but it’s completely reasonable that those three, plus Nute Gunray are only in it to fill their pockets and care nothing for the cause.
aaaaa.... 16 years...
It’s semantics, the season ended in 2009 so that would be 15 years
@thegoldman25 i grew up watching star wars the clone wars and I remember seeing the clone wars movie in theaters and I remember seeing the ambush on cartoon network I remember counting down on cartoon network and I remember going to my grandpa and grandma house and come home and I remember waiting for star wars the clone wars l remember seeing the clone wars countdown banner on tv on cartoon network i miss those days I can't believe it's been 15 years since star wars the clone wars debut on cartoon network thank you Dave and the crew for giving me and all the clone wars wars fans for the best childhood ever
@@johnwhitney5840 wow that's so cool! I was born just a week before the movie premiered so I never had that experience...
15 years later and we still don’t have the last season on DVD und Blue ray
too be fair it only came out 5 years ago and it's considered a "Disney Plus Exclusive"
Is it a hot take that I prefer the early seasons of the clone wars over the later seasons. The early seasons seem more expansive and we just see more random interesting stories
Grievous was done dirt in the 3D series
I never liked him
@@thegoldman25 2D Grievous cool
As much as I disagree with you on the Star Wars prequels at least we can both the clone wars is peak Star Wars
You should do a video on what gaurdians guardians of the galaxy teaches us about toxic masculinity no character represents this more than yondu who was in a crew of ravagers where he had to pretend to be something he isn't just to fit in with his crew.
I love all tve seasons even though fans say season 1 is child friendly
#completetheclonewars
Love it!
Thank you!
Season 1 is a mixed bag for me! It’s so nostalgic for me but it’s not very well made and the characters are very annoying(ok only Ashoka but still) I love Cody’s episodes though!
Time to rewatch Clone Wars for the 5th time, I guess, thanks for an excuse
I thought the idea of combining 3 to four episodes into an individual plot was a good idea, perfectly straddling the line between plot oriented and episodic
You did not just call Kit Fisto ugly!!!
he is tho
@ kit Fisto is THE sexiest Star Wars character
I always loved how Ahsoka went from being very annoying to one of the most popular character in Star Wars history.
