What an opening to a set...love the harp work to open the tune. Simple, but done so damn well. We all know Lester was a loose character, but look at more vids and check out more tunes and you can tell how much he loved blues... Killer performance this.
So, eight people disliked this. Well, that's their right. But I don't have to understand it. This is GREAT blues, great music performed with absolute commitment, passion - and ability - let's not forget that! What more could you ask for? I could ask for a time machine (Oh, I wish...) because I missed every damn gig these guys played. And that hurts....
I saw Red Devils twice in London around 1990-Awesome! Once in HMV Record STore-Once at the Borderline. If you like this type of Music you HAVE to check out a Dutch Band called Original Sin - The album is SINDUSTRY. Brain damaging Boogie of the highest order
Not even in the top 100. Licks are very basic, and repetitive. For this style look up Paul Butterfield, Will Wilde, Rod Piazza, Pat Ramsey, the list goes on and on.
Remember the "House of Burlesque" episode when the town bullys Nelson, Kearney and Jimbo sang, "We just heard this place existed?" That's me right now with Mick Jagger and The Red Devils. I can't figure how my music sonar did not pick up on these guys until now.
first one was at antones. clifford's idea. then we went to i think west texas, new mexico, arizona up down california and back. then again without paul with greg boaz on bass. johnny got video from the loungerie in l.a. on that one. me and lester were tight as most know who know. he had a deal and paul and johnny were the best i knew so finally after bringing em out to the king king lester went out to texas. word vato. ha ha. its all blues. i'm a fan.c/s
1993 - That was right. Thanks for getting my bearings right. I also have the Pink Pop Festival/ The Waterfront Blues gig and MTV Most Wanted live with Ray Cokes. All awesome stuff
when i hear your song, and when it ends, you and the red devil will be done, do you cry, do you know if the red devil cries? and why do you and him cry, that is if he the devil cries? have you met him? do you know what he looks like? when the red the cries, i don't cry?
oh there aint no right or wrong. you know i know watson from san jose. i am from east san jo. we all used to hang so much and dig each other back then. its wasnt such a big world for the blues of our age in the seventies and eighties and early nineties even. i just know i love paul and johnny and jason and the kellers and natural ear kids and mike flannigan and all them. they all are were way past me already when i met them. write me on my normal thing about that jail stuff chuck. c/s
Great band and a great song but the name of the tune isn't "Time To Cry", it's "The Backstreet Crawler" and was released on the 4 song cd by the band named "Blackwater Roll" (title track) in 1993.
Regarding Emy Lee: In 1986 I went to a Blasters gig at Fender's Ballroom, and at that gig the Red Devils were supposed to open. I had heard "Tearin' My Hear Out" on a Rhino comp, and I really wanted to see them as well. As I came in, there was some band playing, with a female lead singer who had long wavy hair a la Janice Joplin, and they were playing the Hendrix tune "Can You See Me". I was really disappointed...did they somehow go hippie or was that a different group?
@gillan0123 Aaahh...I play harp and have been for a long time. Its simple on the harp, but the technique is spot on. If you played the harp you'd understand.
Let me know if you obtain the music VIEZEFURRRR. If not I could arrange a trade or something. The best trax are Mean Spider and Graveyard Road/Hoochie Coochie Man. Dutch Huh? Early Livin Blues were a class act too.
ha ! wrong son. i took paul and johnny AND jay on their first tour when i was their legal guardian. they kicked ass and thats when i turned lester on to them. sorry.none the less it was a destiny thing cuz they were one of a kind together. and it wasnt just paul, lester went to texas and hung and looked. catcha later chuck. respect. c/s
Great band...and what a player on the Bluesharp.... RIP....Lester.🎶
Best live Blues album in history.
And i mean it.
Top 5 yes......... Played at my club hilarious dude too.. D
he's like the hendrix of the harmonica. this is soooo badass. how did i never hear of these guys? unreal
That's Lester Butler, long gone now but not forgotten. O.D'd. May he RIP. If you like his style, look for Johnny Mastro and Mama's Boys.
Vicartje better listen to Little Walter
They did alot of touring in Europe.. They loved it over there!
Go look up Paul Butterfield or Will Wilde. Makes this bloke look like a novice. Great showman, mediocre harp player.
Talked to Lester 1 night in a club ,signed my king king and 13 cd;s.
Damn...I miss these guys. Best blues band ever seen live...
One of my new favorites. seeing how I never knew of them until recently being a harp player myself!
What an opening to a set...love the harp work to open the tune. Simple, but done so damn well.

Yeah, such a waste that he’s gone. For me he was the main man. Saw him back in the days with your current bass player Hightower!
Good friends he had! Not! I realize they were all hi but come on!
Indeed....so Sad...😢
I can remember this, same year rage played at Pinkpop.

I saw them open for the Allman Bros on the Where It All Begins tour.
Sucked to be the Allmans that night. These guys were great.
The seven people who pushed the 'dislike' button because of excitement are forgiven.
'You know that new sound you've been looking for...?' Stevie Ray meets The Hoax. Quality!

If you dislike this, you must have no pulse.
The rhythm section reminds me of the Blasters
Vehement!
Fuckin' awesome!
Where can I get a copy of the Red Devils PinkPop show??
anybody got the lyrics of red devils, cross my heart?
You're spot on about UK guitarists but the States is a long way to go,try Norway or Sweden, they love this stuff.
Pity this song isn't on King King, so maybe they did record more material???
Hope this gig will be available to purchase on DVD in the future.
Based on Harpo Slims Shake Your Hips
Wow what a clear video I have this in whole but very low in gen wise do you hve this in full? Can u put the rest up for us all?

Nope. They used 3 different titles for this song.
Do you hear him sing “Backstreet Crawl” in this song? No.
@@eliades1973 - Nope it's based on Harmonica Slims Shake Your Hips. Changed the lyrics to make it a junkies blues
@@marcoevans2155 Shake yr hips is just one of the songs where it's based on.

RIP Lester B. Died in 1998 of a foul play drug OD, he was actually murdered by the idiots he was hanging out with.
Where is his cay now?
I'm not sure where you mean by somwhere else. Lester Butler passed away May 10th 1998.
