So funny how you posted this video and last night I ordered fly barricade knee+shin + elbow pads. Definitely not in this price range but have to get something before I start jumping on my mountain board. Lol
Hi Pavel, thank you so much for another great, informative video, and as always enjoyable to watch. Merry Christmas to you too and a happy new year!! I personally think you should stick with these, and particularly for more aggressive/technical rides. It might be the case you use some different ones that are easier and quicker to put on when just nipping out for a gentler, easier cruise around (and remember to be self disciplined when it comes to this!!) and keep these for when you're really going to be pushing it. It is a faff putting on our protective gear, when you put it all together; helmets, body armour, butt pads, gloves with wrist guards, knee or knee and shin pads combined, but just like when motorcycling, it's a necessary faff. What you have shown here is that these will protect you against hyperextension to a large extent, and against torsion injuries to a slightly lesser extent. If you use any of the more basic pads with quicker fixings they will only afford impact protection - that's only protecting you from 1/3 of the possible injuries you could sustain in an incident. As you began this video with a very good explanation of the complexity and susceptibilty to injury of the knee joint I'm surprised you would conclude that you would find it too much hassle to spend a bit of time putting them on. But if after all that you still don't want to keep them, if they don't accept them back for a refund I'd be very happy to give them a new home!!!!!!!! 😊
Hi John, Thank you for watching and for such a lovely and detailed comment. My only complaint is that the straps a way too fiddly to put on and the company could of designed something a bit more sufficient and practical for the fixing method...ratchets would be an idea perhaps. I will loo around and see if there is anything similar available on the market. Happy new Year to you and your family mate.
Great info! The only complains i think of might be the open spaces when totaly bent and that something might get stuck and block the mechanism. Still the best i have seen so far. Pavel, do you know something simmilar for the butt? I have been looking for hardshell buttprotectors for years. Cheers
Thank you mate 👍 Glad you liked the video. I do not know about any butt pads of this type but i will ask on my Facebook group ESK8FREEDOM. Are you on the group mate?
I recently brought POD K4 Knee braces, the thing that I noticed almost immediately after wearing the brace for 5 minutes was my knee felt weakened and this was very noticeable, for me I would not wear a knee brace for this reason. The key is to transfer as more force as possible to the Hip socket which is designed to rotate, this can be achieved (but not to the degree of using a dedicated knee brace) by using Knee/shin guard that are fitted inside a motorbike boot. It all depends on how you ride and circumstances that you cannot control. I think for very fast E-Board riding ultimately the rider will need to decide, because of the usual stance when riding, it is also worth thinking about your feet and ankles, but again this is very speed dependent.
Yeah, one day they’ll start making pev dedicated safety gear, I mean you can get special roller blading gear and I think maybe 10 people in the whole world go roller blading so it’s gotta be worth designing some sport specific stuff soon
These are nice..... I have the EVS RS9 knee braces. I got them mainly so I don't hyper extend my knees if I were ever to wreck/bail off my sportster X+ the first few times I wore my RS9's, they kept riding down my legs so I guess I didn't have them strapped up high enough on my calf. Once I got the top calf strap just above where my calf gets bigger, they stopped riding down my leg. I may try and get some of those leg sock things but for now I havent had any discomfort. I still think I look funny riding around the streets, especially when im wearing my HJC helmet lol but you never know when shit hits the fan so gear up it is :)
Great vid. They should be afraid. It's too late to remember the recommendation, after the dump. Especially if your upgrading. If you want to go faster, it's a good idea to include your well-being. So you can talk about it, in a vertical position. Listen class, it makes tomorrow a better day.
I am thinking to get the Acerbis gorilla knee guards, These are much cheaper and i did try a set at the group ride...much easier to put on and do feel comfortable. I will order a pair today and will review soon if you want to hold on.
This is pretty obvious but you should next try the Leatt Dual Axis Knee guards. It's what most Electric Unicyclers on UA-cam are wearing now. It has the quick connect you are looking for, has the same level of protection and costs about $100. The only problem I have with them is that the Large has too small straps and the next size up, the XXL has too big straps. So I'm going to have some tailor work done on the XXL straps to fit.
Hi mate, Thank you so much for the comment. I have just checked out the Dual Axis....looks almost the same. I am interested why the Zframe cost so much more? I am thinking it is due to the hinge mechanism.
@@PavelGarmas The Dual Axis isnt certified to be a brace so it has simpler construction and I'm pretty sure the only difference between the sizes is the strap length only. But its going to do what you want it to do which is slide on asphalt. It's got alot of surface area and its well rounded. It also has enough padding to drop straight down.
I use carpenter's knee pads. They don't have a lot of plastic, but they do have a generous amount of padding and even more important, they are comfortable to wear. However, as always, you are correct about preventing knee torsion, Pavel. The human knee was not created to survive a radical twist. Thank you, my friend, for an informative safety video. Obviously somebody loves you very much, and I have a feeling it is not Santa:) the most effective pads are the pads you will wear. So, I understand looking for something else.
Hi mate. I do not use the separate elbow protectors. I think the best way is to use the body armour. Check this out - ua-cam.com/video/i-VP42VxRTI/v-deo.html
@@PavelGarmas main benefit is that they are cheap ;) ..second they offer on of the highest protection for the price, and also they are light..and you do not feal them...marty bake(electricunicycle y channel) have a mod for making them even better....sarbatori fericite
That's not entirely true. Small meniscus tears can heal, "flappers" probably won't, on their own. I also think those pads would tear off or possibly make an even worse knee injury if you came of an esk8 on tarmac and attempted to knee slide, it looks like it would snag on those edges around the articulated joint, if the surface you land on is not relatively smooth. The X frame looks like it would be much, much better for esk8 for that reason, it has a classic plastic knee cap that you could knee slide on without snagging...
Hi mate! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I hope you are right.... I have split my meniscus and it still did not heal...need a surgery ; ( I think i might upgrade to the Xframe.... Thanks again and Happy holidays to you and your family!
@@PavelGarmas That sucks dude, I am still recovering from ACL surgery 2 years ago, but rehab from ACL surgery is a lot more delicate than from meniscus surgery. All I can tell you is that if you get the surgery, keep up on the rehab exercises as much as your surgeon will allow. After surgery when your knee is immobilised you will get muscle wastage throughout that leg. In my case, I didn't do enough exercises to rehab my glutes, and it turned into a form of piriformis syndrome which is more debilitating than the knee injury itself. But it's finally getting better, 2 years later if I stay on top of the exercises!
@@PavelGarmas sory English is not my first lenguage. what I meant is that the straps on the knee pad are removable and put on like a button. so you don't have to adjust the strips every time. it is a quick coupling system. "Sistema de engate rápido" I don't know how to say it in English, I did a literal translation
I got a size M that was right as per sizing guide but now I feel the hinge portion pressing on the sides of the knee cap. It's not much but it's a distinct pressure. The straps are nearly(but not completely) maxed out. So u think the size is correct or will a size L fit better ?
Are you using over the trousers or direct to the leg? I did buy some long socks that go way the knee ot it mskes a big difference. Protective gear must be just right to work properly.
@@PavelGarmas thank you for responding to my comment. I am wearing the brace over a base layer of cycling tights. Thinking of switching to L and wearing long socks on top as well
I think the velcro is intended to be a one time adjustment and the other end of the strap is actually a quick detach system.
