It might just be me but I feel like Matt does just what most of us car fans would love to do. Have ten grand sitting around and spending it on something old and in need of a good home. Love it.
@@HighPeakAutos not at all Matt you are doing amazing and I for one totally enjoy your older land rover stuff. To walk my lab I walk past a indy garage that seems to specialise in land rover jaguar, so the road is always full of old Vogue's, Xj's Freelander's and Disco's. I never miss having a look even to the point of peering in the windows... One day my friend one day.

I completely agree. I think that is the last time cars were built to last. I've currently got a 1 of 300, 22 yo Toyota Crown Athlete VX. Just gone through another MOT, with no issues. In the nearly 3 years I've had it, its never let me down. Been on many multihour many mile trips.
Agreed - peak car era. I live in Aus now, but we still have my original 2002 D2 V8 bought new as a company car, a 2002 Mazda Tribute and a 2007 Ford Falcon BF wagon on LPG at about 50p/L. No point anything newer as they offer so little more given all the above have BT, ABS and the basics. I love tech, it's my industry but not in cars. Enjoy the basics of driving too much Also, too aware of how much I hate having new cars scratched etc...
Great pick up. That will be a lovely example when the dings are pulled out and sprayed. I am particularly impressed that the previous owner managed what appears to be perfectly symmetrical damage to the front bumper.
My 03 L322 was Giverney green with cream leather. As you say a really classy colour. Looked great in Kensington, equally great in a muddy field, and best of all, muddy in Kensington. As a new one I had no engine issues (or indeed anything at all) in the two years I had it, and it remains the most comfortable non-Citroen I've had (nothing has ever come close to my SM). It was a Vogue so had the superlative comfort seats like yours. Yours will tidy up very nicely and count me jealous. Too many are interfered with - an electrician mentioned when chatting (normal Devon tradesmen behaviour) his air struts had both gone, then he mentioned he'd put 22 inch alloys on it. Hello, that extra rubber was designed as part of the suspension set up. I shall enjoy how you get on, oh, and I was considerably older man than you at 5. I bought Vivaldi's Four Seasons...
Very nice indeed. If I'm honest, I prefer the looks of this one to most of the more modern ones you've featured in other videos. It's just very clean and as we all know, 'less is more'.

i have been in the motor trade for 30 years and just bought an L322 just because of your Landrover videos , love your passion about these cars and you are right all cars go wrong , drive what you like and fix it when it goes wrong
Good post, mate. "drive what you like and fix it when it goes wrong" should be Matt's motto! BTW enjoy your L322. I've had mine for 11 years and love it to bits. Reply
A 17-year-old Range Rover sounds like a money pit to me but there is no accounting for taste and it wasn't exactly expensive. I look forward to part two. I have noticed the older series Land Rovers are attracting some serious money nowadays so perhaps this could be the case for your Range Rover in years to come. Rust is the big killer in the UK for these cars.
@@miamitten1123 I didn't fall for anything. It is a fact that a 17-year-old Range Rover or a Toyota Land Cruiser will need more maintenance than a younger vehicle. You come across as a high-maintenance version.
They are a money pit. It might seem like it's fine when you buy it, because the previous owner has probably spent £1000s fixing it. I think they use a lot of cheap electrical parts (Lucas electrical) which is usually what causes issues. Every model of car has it's lemons, Japanese cars tend to have far less (esp. the ones actually built in Japan). But when it comes to RRs, most are lemons.
@@BlatentlyFakeNamekey electrical components are Denso. I know as I just bought a new original alternator for mine and the price was a bit of an eye opener until I saw the reassuring Denso sticker.
Nice one Matt 👍 have you seen the P38 graveyard in North Wales, whoever owns it has been buying up all the half-decent ones out there, Its pushing prices up.
@@BionicRusty There is a video of one on the Tube: ua-cam.com/video/AfVGIvscJDU/v-deo.html Not sure if it the same one - but sounds like it. There are LOADS of RRs there!
Oh man I just saw "I just bought a cheap Range Rover..." On my notifications and I'm telling that RR word made my day, especially that L322 RR, my favourite one too except I love it in black with the similar design thinner 9 spoked rims..talk about a real beauty you just purchased
@@HighPeakAutos Really good. I totally love the supercharged power too. It's a weekend runner so I can take the fuel costs. Unfortunately had my CAT stolen but sourced a replacement. You were right Matt, an L322 makes you feel special and there's nothing quite like them. I don't think I have ever loved a car so much.
Love your guidelines! I found a beautiful supercharged, and I had a good feeling about it when talking to the owner. When i saw it in person i fell in love. So when he told me to take a drive i went on checking little things. Just before turnig on the radio i was hoping it would be on one of the classical music stations, and it was! Then i opened the glove box, has a service history from beginning and all receipts from 2017 till today. In the trunk, original wiper blades in the box still, with nice little Land Rover logo 😂 everything works on the car besides timed heating(webasto), probably because it was never used. Not low mileage, 205xxx km, but it's like new. Love every second driving it!
OMG that’s exactly how mines looks, big headrests with TVs and all . Only difference is I have the cream interior and the supercharged V8. American rover which is why there’s only V8 options. Congratulations 🍾 I’ll be keeping mines forever 🤩
I'm fortunate enough to own a 2011 Autobiography which is much loved and cherished. It has the same switch gear as one of my early 2000's Jags, which to me was a bonus as I love the design and functionality. As Matt says it's important to look after them and from time to time things WILL go wrong. I've looked at the later shape models as a possible replacement when the time comes but as I use mine for transporting my wife's paintings the 'older' shape is much more practical with a flat loading area when the rear seats are down.
To be fair, I’d never even thought about having an RR until I stumbled upon you’re videos, now I’ve had 6 in a year upgrading each time and now I’ve got an SVAutobiography lol
Great find. Love the L322. I've got a 2010 I'm keeping. Had it thoroughly rust proofed, new lines, bushes etc as a keeper and just keep on top of it and use it.
Out of context but it just brought me back in 2012 when my parents had purchased a brand new Freelander 2 HSE beige. Loved that car but it had gotten ruined by being used as a tractor by my dad (sadly). It ended up being traded-in in 2016 for nothing lol (with a lot of electrical issues). But still what a lovely Range Rover you bought !!
Recently got lucky bought a 09 4.2 SC from Canada and imported to the states 80k miles babied to death (no rust)suspension mint. Upgraded from my 07 4.2 that was totaled in a crash unfortunately blessing in disguise my 07 was goin on a bit age wise and miles. They definitely are going up these l322’s are art. Easy double in value give it time.
my favourite shape too, great find. Really enjoy watching these and look forward to part 2. Wouldn't find anything like it near the south coast where I am. Seems much dearer here and that's saying something as I've recently moved from SE London!
Good choice Matt, Mine is a Stornaway grey with high mileage 2008 and my perfect winter car for the Canadian cold it does not need a block heater but keep her on a trickle charger. The Achilles heel of her is a short drive and not getting her recharged those heated seats and steering wheel etc. use up her battery quickly.
One of our directors at work is the epitome of "old money" - from the maroon corduroy trousers, through to the small Perthshire castle. He's pals with Charles. Yes, that one. He's got a deep green one of these on the drive, of course.
Iv had a 4.4 bmw v8 petrol .. currently have the twin turbo v8 diesel .. it’s night and day for me.. diesel all the way .. lots more torque same BHP , smoother, no chain guide issues .. and twice the Mpg. That’s my take on them
Billy Joel….. I think you’re spot on there Matt, exactly the same as what radio station it’s tuned into, they are all tell tale signs of the type of person the previous owner was. That’s why I went for a gold coloured L405 which for the last 3 years had only been driven to church and back on a Sunday 😂. Not as you say a RR owned by a failed rapper… Great purchase and please keep us up to date with its repairs 👍
Lovely car, looking forward to the next update on it. Billy Joel when you are 5, lol, brilliant, my first album when I was 5, I purchased an Elvis album and been a super fan since.
Matt Like your purchase. 4 months ago after seeing too many of your videos I brought a 114k mile 2009 5 litre supercharged L322 for less than £15k. Dark green, cream/brown upholstery. After the application of a further £2k I think/hope I have a good car. Great on a long run, super relaxing driving locally and I'm even getting double figure mpg! Funnily enough, I think I know who to blame when it goes wrong... Keep on with the videos
My Dad owns a 2007 L322 TDV8 Vogue, which he bought when it was only a few months old. He still loves it, and has never felt the need to change it! Looking forward to seeing the turnaround on this.

Just when I think I couldn’t appreciate this channel any more, you drop the the name of the legend that is Billy Joel. I doff my cap to you Matt. Keep doing what you are doing, you’re awesome!
Best of luck! I am a little jealous, I sold my L322 a few weeks ago, the earlier 4.4 V8 bmw engine, I am missing it already! Someone did once say to me that few things are more expensive than a cheap range Rover! I look forward to the update!
There, in essence, is the skill acquired from experience in buying many cars as a business. Knowing the car is honest - there’s a huge difference between that and an ‘average’ car which will have multiple owners who all go through phases with it, so it’ll have multiple cheap and obvious repairs to body & paint - this one just has honest scars - it’s 16 years old - ironically always for any trader an actual pleasure to see. There’ll be a few hidden surprises but instinctively you know they won’t be serious enough to give you that ‘sinking’ feeling. It’s a nice thing, and that always gives that warm fuzzy feeling when you hand over the cash.
Hi. I have a 2001 Honda Civic as my go to work car. From new is has only done 56000 miles. My aunty owned it from 2010. She stopped driving when she was 89. When I brought it. She is still with us. The car has 20 service stamps because she had a few major health issues so the car was parked up a lot. Some mots & services show only a few hundred miles difference. Everything works on the car including the air con which I have just repaired myself by fitting a new condenser. The car has an electric sunroof heated front seats. Heated electric mirrors. The only real issue is a few scrapes on the bodywork. Last mot there were no advisories. I have replaced the exhaust, battery, front discs, pads rear pads & 2 rear callipers & aircon condenser. .
That's excellent purchase love colour combination my inner old man approves and is jealous as I'm selling indigo blue S-type. Also top tip go for Michelin latitude cross after many years of pirelli scorpions in various Range Rovers my family had switched to the Michelins and the difference in ride quality and handling was impressive.
Hi Matt I love a good L322 they’re fantastic, I have a 2003 l322 with the noisy bmw diesel in Epsom green with the same Aspen/ ivory interior and over the last year I’ve been enjoying it and restoring it and in fairness it’s been very reliable. Just a thought for you, might be worth flipping the sill covers off and rear wheel Arch liners and undersealing underneath them as that’s the only real area for rust on these, stop it before it spreads up the rear wheel arch/door shut, I had to cut out, weld and replace mine😂 the covers are nice and easy to remove. Thanks for the great content.
Good to see it’s been looked after and will continue to be loved. I’m about to show some love to my parents car they’ve given me which is a Nissan murano. Not iconic but I’m obsessed with it while it’s like my childhood car.. my biggest issue with these is when do you stop spending. In my head I justify it by saying even if it cost 2k a year to maintain- it’s still cheaper than a new car on finance
I have the exact car, but a 4.2 Supercharged. 3 years later it remains my favourite car. I do all services myself. Best place to be, fuel consumption - U eventually get used to it. I would buy abother one in a heartbeat
4.4 V8 Jag engine is fantastic... Done 280,000 in my disco 3 and it hasn't skipped a beat in 15 years. It's not slow, but you'll empty the tank pressing the accelerator. The thing that will kill the engine is the coolant tank which can crack and you end up witth a leak an no coolant. You will love that vehicle

i have been in the motor trade for 30 years and just bought an L322 just because of your Landrover videos , love your passion about these cars and you are right all cars go wrong , drive what you like and fix it when it goes wrong
Exactly! All the best
Good post, mate. "drive what you like and fix it when it goes wrong" should be Matt's motto! BTW enjoy your L322. I've had mine for 11 years and love it to bits.

Ahhhh, shut up John. You fell for the hype. Even a Toyota Land Cruiser has issues.
I know as I just bought a new original alternator for mine and the price was a bit of an eye opener until I saw the reassuring Denso sticker.
welcome back. Love the 'make it the best you can and keep it forever' ethos. Right up my street lol.
Nice one Matt 👍 have you seen the P38 graveyard in North Wales, whoever owns it has been buying up all the half-decent ones out there, Its pushing prices up.
Where in N Wales is it, mate?
The old LR specialist on Rhuallt Hill closed down, I think.
@Bionic Rusty
Frongoch mine near Aberyswyth
@@BionicRusty There is a video of one on the Tube: ua-cam.com/video/AfVGIvscJDU/v-deo.html
Not sure if it the same one - but sounds like it. There are LOADS of RRs there!

What?

Oh man I just saw "I just bought a cheap Range Rover..." On my notifications and I'm telling that RR word made my day, especially that L322 RR, my favourite one too except I love it in black with the similar design thinner 9 spoked rims..talk about a real beauty you just purchased
I adore this colour as well Matt. Really suits the car and brings an added elegance to it.
Thanks. How’s yours?
That looks great. Such good looking cars, and the interior is beautiful, pleasing colours instead of acres of black! Hope you enjoy.
OMG that’s exactly how mines looks, big headrests with TVs and all . Only difference is I have the cream interior and the supercharged V8. American rover which is why there’s only V8 options. Congratulations 🍾 I’ll be keeping mines forever 🤩
Nice!
Would you look at turning this project into a monthly vlog/update? Bringing it back into pristine condition will be great watch
Great videos as always. As a Marple resident it's always cool to see our beautiful countryside in the background :)
Its not a bad part of the world
The interior was revolutionary at the time for perceived quality and it still works now
To be fair, I’d never even thought about having an RR until I stumbled upon you’re videos, now I’ve had 6 in a year upgrading each time and now I’ve got an SVAutobiography lol
Great find. Love the L322. I've got a 2010 I'm keeping. Had it thoroughly rust proofed, new lines, bushes etc as a keeper and just keep on top of it and use it.
Yep. Look after them. It's simple. Why I love and keep my 09 Freelander 2. Regular mot and services. Rust treatment (prevention!) when required.
Beautiful motor , you lucky chap
Cherish that one Matt
So it's like S500, neither very fast or economical. 😀 That's a nice car Matt! Hope it goes to plan 😀
That’s it! Totally agree. Still the S class I’d pick
Oh Matt, your videos do make my day. From one old man to another. My first album was Bee Gees ESP.
3:27 loving the madness. Astute reviews but with a hint of the unhinged
Ah very nice! Fingers crossed. Most of them have been abused so it’s rare to find a nice one
my favourite shape too, great find.
Good choice!
One of our directors at work is the epitome of "old money" - from the maroon corduroy trousers, through to the small Perthshire castle. He's pals with Charles. Yes, that one. He's got a deep green one of these on the drive, of course.
Ah very nice. I love that image
Love this channel. Not that I'm a "petrol head"! I just enjoy Matt's commentary, and Northern wit!!
Thanks for making me feel old Matt, in 1995 I was already in the Merchant Navy & ‘up the road’ in various far east ports getting up to shenanigans! 👍
Lovely car, looking forward to the next update on it. Billy Joel when you are 5, lol, brilliant, my first album when I was 5, I purchased an Elvis album and been a super fan since.
Matt
Like your purchase.
Very nice
Hi Matt stunning colour range rover with the correct wheels those are my favourite style and I'm like you like cars that haven't been messed around with factory original looking forward to seeing how this ends up best wishes Ian
Thanks 👍
Hi Matt I watch many car video channels on you tube from the Uk & America and for honest no nonsense reviews you channel is by far the best on UA-cam, so 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Esq. and keep up the hard work.
I appreciate that!
Great colour combo this Matt, "see through" glass is a bonus too! Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out..
Just when I think I couldn’t appreciate this channel any more, you drop the the name of the legend that is Billy Joel. I doff my cap to you Matt. Keep doing what you are doing, you’re awesome!
Haha thank you
Best of luck!
I have replaced the exhaust, battery, front discs, pads rear pads & 2 rear callipers & aircon condenser.
.
Top tip to check the graphic equalizer as an indiciator of how much a car has been thrashed Matt!!
Its all about good taste!
Want to do the same. I think the sport will be more desirable as it's got a smaller footprint but thats more classier
I have the exact car, but a 4.2 Supercharged. 3 years later it remains my favourite car. I do all services myself. Best place to be, fuel consumption - U eventually get used to it. I would buy abother one in a heartbeat
This vehicle is epic and Matt I am with you all the way !
Owned mine
for 5 years and love it! Always service the gearbox!
so nice to see ya happy and smiling matt!
Another great vid, as always and another Range Rover deservedly rescued and saved. Looking forward to seeing it when restored.
I'll get that checked out
V8 engines seen to be appreciating these days, people but them before they are extinguished, good pick!
Hi Matt, what a gem, love the 322, looking forward to the end result. Sadly I would love one from you as it would be sorted, but alas cannot import to Cyprus if more than 5 years old.
Takes me back to when I worked in engineering making parts for JLR, good luck with the project and I think you'll have a lot of fun with this one 👍.
That’s interesting. Thanks
