11 years later after watching this for the first time its STILL one of my all time favourite parts. Rodneys skating always brings something we've never seen and will never see again, that is one of many reasons why this guy is a top skateboarder in my books.
I remember watching a lot of these clips on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and being blown away. Now, watching the full video as an adult all these years later I am still in awe.
He’s becoming more and more genius as time passes by and we see the amazing difference between Rodney and the skaters of yesterday, today and tomorrow for sure... he’s totally different to every human out there.

That’s clearly the proof that the “slim shoes board feel business” is BS , i always rocked chunky shoes and had no problem skating , and look at what wonders rodney does with his board rocking globes and stuff =) . There are no bad tools , only unexperienced workers =D

Every single skater after Rodney can do at best 20% of what Rodney could. I dont think there is any other athlete who is so goated at his sport. He literally invented or pioneered everything a modern street skater does. There will never ever be a discussion about the goat of skateboarding, he has been there since the beginning.

Since people nowadays have abandoned the correct way to write acronyms (with dots separating each letter) due to practicality, “G.O.A.T.” turns into “GOAT”, and then ignorant or cynical people turn that word into “goat”. By the way, calling someone “the greatest of all time” is a complete exaggeration because you never know who might appear in the future. So that's clearly one of those acronyms where the word it produces was the initial idea, and then a meaning for each letter was added. I don't see many people throwing around a ridiculously high compliment like that frequently.

Yes, he pretty much invented the majority of tricks we now know. This dude was Olli ING before people knew how to do it. Casper, darkslide, kickflip/heelflip rewind, truckstand, primo slide, hard flip, impossible, finger flip, all courtesy of Rodney Mullen.

When I was a kid I got a pair of shoes that came with the Globe DVD that this was on and I thought this part was the best skating I'd ever seen. I still have the DVD
I first saw some of this footage in THPS3 for ps2. I grew up in Michigan playing hockey, and in the 90's in my town at least you either did a board or blades, not both, and i did blades, I was already playing hockey and I remember when ice hockey finally embraced their warmer cousin and Bauer actually came out with a wheeled version of their skate, and so though i didn't really have anything against skateboarding i didnt know the first thing about it until THPS3 (actually taught me a lot about the sport) aaaaand then i unlocked Rodney's video and it was so unbelievable compared to the others, even the namesake Tony Hawk only had some average vid clip, that i had to re-watch it immediately to look for wires or something, or a hidden torque motor in the truck axle, but Nope, that was real. GOAT.
My childhood nickname was "Rodney" cause i used to make friends asking them if they like skateboard, and the ones who said "yes" i invited them to go to my house watch my VHS tape of Globe Opinion. I can tell you all of my style of wearing was all based on that guy, i loved this part so much.. I'm showing my son this video for the first time and he simply hyped on that! This brings me some much joy. Thanks Rodney you're awesome!!!
I don't know what to say about this god of skate but I can say that he IS the number 1 legend of skate until now and for many and many years ahead. Absolutely incredible skater. I remember watching this tricks when a teenager and It blew my mind.

This guy is relentless. He established a skateboarding tutorial tricks. Even invented primo, darkslide, & casper, in case someone in the future try to figure out the other way possible to skate.
Until today the real RD remains uncovered. Just one thing is for sure: He had quite some muscles and superior control of them and most real skaters wonder, and will never know, how many understood what the Thrasher Mag is without a dictionare when they read about this young man and read the interviews. #skateordie
This video needs to be put in a time capsule for humans to find again. Just to ad, I was always a longboarder. I could never do tricks, just bomb hills and carve up the pavement. But Rodney Mullen had a huge influence in my love for skateboarding.
This is what having 100% complete control over the board looks like. He can make that piece of wood do any fucking thing he wants and he knows it. Like skateboard wizard.
Looking at how he all of a sudden play around with manuals in a new way here. The balace level is the highest in skateboarding history. You'll have to eat think, breath and sleep with your deck to get to this level. No one in 2024 could do it like Rodney did it here. 😮😮❤
