I'm pretty sure a few other drivers could have done something similar. Hamilton was way less impressive in 2008 (more mistakes, Massa and Kubica were slightly better IMO) and yet he won that title. Interesting how F1 works out.

What always fucks me up about Monaco, is that the moment where you think, as a non racing driver, they should get on the throttle, is about a second after they’ve actually got on the throttle. Like it doesn’t make sense. The sound of the engine accelerating doesn’t compute to where they are, the speeds they’re going and the conditions of Monaco. Its bizarre, but fucking awesome
And not just in Monaco either. If you haven't seen it, check out Vettel's pole lap from the 2010 Australian Grand Prix. Same story, though this time the same could also be said for braking distances. Vettel is consistently braking about 50 meters later than I could possibly fathom anybody doing throughout that lap. The amount of downforce that the Red Bull RB6 generated is utter insanity, in addition to F1 drivers being all but superhuman in what they do.

McLaren only started prioritizing Hamilton after he showed that he was faster than Alonso. Fernando is and always will be one of the best F1 drivers ever regardless of his titles, but he binned it a couple of times in 2007, he was rattled that a rookie could match him in this manner.

Hamilton was handily outperforming Alonso early on when McLaren was giving Alonso preference. Alonso developed a bad relationship with McLaren due to this. Like any rational person would ask; why would McLaren pick up a double world champion just to put him behind a rookie no one initially didn’t want to work with?

Michael was a very good chance of win at Monaco but was unfairly placed on rear of grid. Still he worked his way up to 5th. Japan blown engine when leading , blown fuel pump Brazil. I think their was another two 10 grid penalties due to engine replacements. Alonzo had 2 mechenical failures and I think 1 10 grid penalty but one of them he was only looking at 4th or 5th anyway. Schumacher defiantly had his lions share of bad luck 2006. Alonzo in a interview even admitted 2006 he was lucky. I'm not taking anything away from Alonzo though he is a fantastic driver.

You did not watch the race. Fernando made a 10s gap before the stop but a lapped car made him lose a lot of time. Lewis had not any chances to overtake Fernando at any point, they were almost equal in pace fuel adjusted, with Fernando having an small edge over him, but almost equal. Fernando had a lot of brake issues the second half of the race, admitted back in the day by De la Rosa, who was reserve driver at McLaren and commentator in Spanish TV.
