Wish I saw this video before I struggled to remove the stuck washplate thinking the splines were stripped. Finally moved this Bravos washer and saw the pulley nut had dropped off and there was a pile of plastic powder from the guard. Tipped the machine, took the guard off and reinstalled the nut with locktite. Works perfectly again.

Different model, but by the time I got underneath it the plastic shield had already been broken off. I didn't feel any looseness on the pulley part or anything, but taking it off and putting it back on fixed the issue. Just fyi anyone in comments reading

Did you have any issue with the agitator spinning inside the tub as you were trying to loosen the nut to get the pulley off? When I use try and get the nut off or even tighten it all it does is spin. I've used an impact driver, had someone hold the agitator, I cant seem to remove this nut.

To all who recently bought new cabrio from whirl pool and have the loud noise or grinding. Underneath your washer if you have the carriage to catch water if the washer leaks. 9 times out of ten this is the cause. This is not normal. If you lift wash or tilt to look under you will see plastic peices from the washer scraping this carriage remove the carriage an this will solve the issue 100%... I had the same issue and after the removal of this I have had no issues with this washer. This is for the newer models high efficiency top loaders. Hope the helps someone and thanks for video. Def.. informative if your having a more technical issue with washer..

I have a similar model. There was wear from the pulley on the sheild. I could not see that any bolt was loose and it actually looked welded on. No way to loosen or tighten. There was no belt debris, just debri from pulley hitting sheild. My machine is about 18 months old and I live alone so it isn't like it gets a daily workout. I put the sheild back on but not as tightly seated and that horrible noise was gone. I am buying a new sheild and when I put it on I will look more at the pulley but nothing seems loose.
The noise started after a young possum was hiding in that area and later wound up in the machine. That was the first time I heard this noise so I opened the machine and there he was. I helped him out. Maybe the possum chewed on the sheild. Who knows.

I'm not sure the exact model number. It's a 6yr old top loader. I didn't run any tests cause I had a good idea what the problem was. It's a relatively easy repair that most people will be able to do. The impact driver is a must as it will allow you to remove the pulley bolt without the tub spinning.

The drive pulley has spines and when they wear it causes it to wobble which causes the nut to back off. If it just spins and will not come loose the splines are probably worn off completely. Also the agitator on top has splines as well.
