    This Maytag Centinel washer is making a grinding noise during agitate. This repair can mirror a whirlpool washer as well. The wash plate or agitator was the culprit. The spline on the agitator where it connects to the transmission we’re stripped. I believe it stripped due to the coins that we found under the wash plate. The coins may have jammed the agitator so the transmission trying to spin it cause the spline to strip. The fix on this was changing out the wash plate. Changing out the agitator fix this.
    Hope this helps, thanks for watching like and subscribe!

      my washplate is not loose or anything. i have a whirlpool that is about 4 years old. it just recently lost all the oil out of the transmission due to a bad seal so i replaced the oil with grease. i started a wash cycle and now when it agitates it make a loud horn like noise. doesnt sound like grinding at all. just like a buzzer or horn everytime the washplate goes back and forth. any idea what that noise could be? spin cycle works great. agitate works great but noise is irratating. thanks

    Thanks for this video! It looks like Maytag changed the design. Mine has a tall center shaft so first you need a ratchet extension of about 12”. Upon taking off the agitator, they’ve gone with a spindle with spline system that’s akin to bike 3pc crank and spindle. My washer’s about 4-1/2 years old, top load. I did find a broken zipper, maybe that was creating the squeal. Reassembling now and will test. If that didn’t solve it, then the next options start to become more of a hassle!

    Thank you SO MUCH FOR YOUR video! Let me begin with, this washer has been a disappointment since we bought it! I've NEVER been happy with water levels (same on ALL settings), cleaning capabilities, lid lock feature, or wash times. The benefits of saving water only adds to use of more electricity, and those features are not a priority for me.
    MY ISSUE:
    -app. 2 weeks ago, huge clumps of half dissolved/rinsed detergent on numerous items in load
    -diagnostic test specified actuator error code
    -replaced, test cycle, calibrated, no error code, BUT still much detergent residue
    -cleaned ALL drain hoses and removed small nail from inside pump... Spins freely
    -inlet filters clean, supply lines have good water pressure
    -drain hose is in correct position
    -ran washer on its CLEANING cyle
    -calibrated, test cycle, result... Another detergent clumped load -repeated diagnostic/test.... new error code LID LOCK
    PLEASE HELP!
    The owner's manual is useless, and we live in such a rural area, Jesus will return before we can get service/technician.

      When you run the washer try running it with hot water. If your using pods they won’t resolve properly unless the water is a certain temperature. Also when you mention clumped up detergent it makes me thing it’s not getting enough water. Does it fill up properly? Using warm water is good for your machine helps keep it clean so when you can use hot or warm to help clean it out as it’s being used. I find many customers and I used to do this myself but I would only use cold water in everything. Even towels lol. Make sure you wash white in hot along with towels. Helps with everything cleaner clothes and washing machine.
      Is that the only issue. The clumped up detergent? The codes may be confusing you. If it will fill, agitate, drain and spin. That’s all your washer really does.
      My instincts tell me you have a fill problem. Great information for me to build on too to try and help.

    If the wash plate spline is stripped, as indicated in the video, it will be difficult to remove the bolt. However, I used a my impact driver and a 7/16" hex bolt bit to break the bolt loose, otherwise, using a normal socket and rachet, it will just spin the shaft. With the bolt removed, since the wash plate spline was stripped, it was quite easy to pull the wash plate up and off the drive shaft.
    When installing the new wash plate, make sure to apply blue Loctite to bolt threads before installing the bolt. The Loctite is required to prevent the bolt from backing out while in-use.

    • @darkegress4392
      @darkegress4392 Рік тому

      100 percent correct on the Loctite. I did not apply Loctite and the bolt came lose and destroyed the spline. Keep an eye out for coins and lift them out after every wash using two kitchen knives so they don't wear down and slip under the plate. Anyone else have clothes being cut up? I think overloading might press the clothes down under the plate to be torn, cut, ripped. The worn coins could be a factor as well in the clothing damage.

    I have a question for you. What would cause a drum to start banging into the sides once it gets up to higher speeds during the spin cycle? I had to replace the hub because the drum wasn't spinning with the agitator.
    After replacing the hub, now the drum starts banging as I described above. The springs and rods look to be in good shape. I feel as if the space between the transmission shaft and drum is to wide and causes it. I had to hold the drum up a little to get the hub to screw down all the way.

    • @duandlew5206
      @duandlew5206 2 роки тому

      I had the same issue. The play between the shaft and the inner tub makes it so that the tub cannot hold a balance. So when the spin cycle starts, it just starts banging into the sides shaking the whole machine.
      the play is cause by either a loose or broken tub bearing or tub seal. To get to it you need to take the wash plate off and remove the inner tub.
      The banging put a lot of wear on the machine so the sooner you fix it the better

    My neighbors washplate stripped out the teeth. She didn't want to spend $90 for the part so we cleaned the shaft as best as possible and coated the agitator and shaft with JB Weld, centered it as best we could, put the bolt back in and let it sit for a couple days. Machine lasted 3 more years till the trans bearings went out and it'd howl in spin.

    I replaced my bearings that were shot. My stator is cracked but I reinstalled it. I reused the old shaft because the new shaft's skirt was too low and couldn't get the threads to show in the bottom after tightening the bearings x 3. When I compared it with the old shaft there was a 1/2 difference. So put it all back together and did first load with jeans and colors. All went great, very silent clothes came out all dry. The third load the machine was squeaking during spin and would throw the uL code even after I repositioned the clothes more than four times. What do you think is causing that? Cracked stator? Over tightened bearings?

    Great video sir, but a few things. That nut was harder than woodpecker lips to get off, I had to beat it like it owed me money to break it free. Next, my wash plate does not move at all, not left or right, no movement. I've tried for about an hour to get that plate off with no luck. Tried WD40, hot water, running a hot cycle and nothiing. Any suggestions?
