Thank-you SO much for preserving and posting this footage! I have searched in vain for it in years past. I don't know why this relatively low-budget dark ride with a fairly heavy-handed "message" has held a special place in my memories in the years since I moved away from St. Louis (as it happens, in the year when this footage was filmed, 1992) after spending five years in the area as a grad student too poor to go to Six Flags until I was getting ready to move off and start my career, but loving my experience when I did splurge on it enough to go again when I came back for a visit a couple of years later. My first time on this ride, it was fairly new. The second, it was already looking pretty sad, with visible mold growing on the "kids" (who had begun to look more and more like cheap department store mannequins) and wads of chewed gum stuck to many of the spitting monkeys at the end.
FINALLY! Somebody has uploaded footage of it. I rode Castaway Kids a lot as a child, to the point where I took it for granted. Then when Scooby Doo replaced it I found myself missing Castaway Kids as I got older. Suddenly I could no longer remember most of it and I spent years checking UA-cam in the hopes that footage of it would reappear. I’d forgotten about some of the intense images, like the bulldozer, or the hippo chewing on the kid. Thank you.
Oh man. Last year I was perusing channels like Defunctland and Yesterworld and lamenting the fact that no footage existed for this ride. Did I make it up in my head? Was it all a dream? Thank you for proving I am not insane, and for preserving this here for all of humanity.
I myself am fascinated with the dark rides that came before Justice League and I have been scouring the internet for videos, photos, audio, anything from Injun Joe's Cave, The Time Tunnel, Legends of the dark castle and Castaway kids. and so far, I've found pictures from Injun Joe's Cave, literally a single picture from The Time Tunnel, Nothing from Legends of the Dark Castle and so far, only this video from Castaway Kids. This is new ground broken right here. Great find and here's to more being found about these attractions lost to time. I feel like this whole case could be a good Blameitonjorge video or something.
@@KnottsBear-yTalesPreserved The one that Fascinates me the most is The Time Tunnel. Idk if you have seen it, but the fandom for Injun Joe's Cave is very detailed with several pictures. Here is a link to it :) sixflags.fandom.com/wiki/Injun_Joe%27s_Cave
@@pixelythegamer3260 I know right! it's kinda sad tbh as history should be embraced no forgotten about and that's why I think it's sad that nobody really knows anything about the past rides as most of them seem really cool. When I get time soon, I'd like to get something up on the Lost Media Wiki to try to get some attention to these old rides!
Wow thank you for this, growing up in the 80’s and 90’s this was one of my favorites, every summer I looking forward to this ride and screaming eagle, oh and the moon cars!
Wow, thanks so much for sharing your discovery. I was born in 2004 so Scooby was already around by the time I could think, and even still I don’t remember it much. I now work at the park and have an extreme obsession with its history.
Thank you so much. I remember this ride like it was yesterday. Every now and then I'll hear "Hey it's a jungle out there..." I also remember sometimes that plane would catch fire.
Ha I knew I wasnt crazy. Every time I describe this ride to someone they usually tell me it wasnt real or look at me like I'm nuts. Especially when I described the big monster tractor and the monkey heads that would pop out and squirt water at you!
Greetings! May I use this footage in a video discussing this ride's history? I will give full credit to your channel.
Hi ThemeParkCrazy! You are very welcome to use this footage for your video, I appreciate the support and I'll be looking forward to your new video.

YES! The chewing gum! I fully 100% remember the gum stuck on the monkey heads even as a young kid haha

This is my exact experience!
I know this is an old video but I just came across it. I mostly remember the gum stuck in the final tunnel

@@SlushysSecretit became a Scooby-Doo ride after this.

Six flags St. Louis seems to have many dark rides In it’s past that have very little information, and overall, rides that time forgot

@@Huskermats02 I’m not sure amusement rides count as lost media though
Thank you so much for putting this up, been wanting footage this ride for ages!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS
I have a good feeling many of the animatronic kids were reused from Injun Joe’s Cave for this ride.
I feel that it was as well, they seem similar to the kids used in the original ride
I can smell this video.
Also sad it didn't include all the wads of gum at the end of the ride.
I remember this ride

Dear god I’m so glad I wasn’t alive to witness this. This would have scared the shit out of me as a kid!

Welcome back memories.
omg you just brought back my childhood.
Omg I remember the gophers at the very end. I was 9 when this ride closed
I remember waiting an hour to ride this on a hot summers day in the early 90’s. It was very disappointing 😂
Cool And Its This Gonna Be Your Wave 2 Project?
Not really Jay but it was to share this discovery
Ok Cool Footage though!
(0:04) Did they said Okee?

At the end of the ride the monkeys were supposed to squirt water at you but they were all gummed up by chewed gum lol
looking for this for years
They use the Tales of the Okefenokee boats!
Basically, The Cave At SFOT, Okee At SFOG, And Injun Joe's Cave (Later Castaway Kids) Used The Same Fiberglass Boats
