For the stuff about Italian-American identity etc, the show received some criticism from Italian-American groups about perpetuating stereotypes in the early days, so this episode was David Chase (creator and showrunner) responding to that. Through the characters, he pointed out that mob movies were a classic part of the culture, that Italian-Americans have achieved a lot in other fields and that a person's self-worth and identity should not be so fragile that a few mob movies should shatter it. I agree that it's beautifully written.
They take pride on looking like these tough guys when they're scumbag criminals. But films where blacks give them a challenge they find that offensive.
@@shaquilleburton1611Shaq my guy your black to unless that’s a fake name you should know that people are usually criminals because of the economic situation there government forces onto them use your brain my guy the criminals are the side To root for no matter what ethnicity they claim
Christopher shooting the guy in the foot at the bakery was an homage to Michael Imperoli getting shot in the foot playing Spider in Goodfellas. I thought they might catch it, even though he’s reiterated that Casino is his fav.
Probably one of the best episodes of the season. Some things I've noticed after watching it a gazillion times: -In Chris's dream sequence, the number above the counter to indicate the order number is 34, the same number that Chris had at the bakery -There's a few Goodfellas references in the episode. The most obvious being the sister working as a word processor for the FBI, and of course the iconic Spider revenge scene -Like you guys mentioned, Chris has shown an interest in movies, specifically mob pictures, from day one. Imo this is because Chris was raised on the glamorized portrayal of the mafia from golden age cinema, exemplified by his belief that cinema rules transfer to the real life mob and referencing them. His pursue of Hollywood seems like a way to still vicariously live what he grew up on in the movies -Breaking Bad has been known to tribute this show often, but there is a scene where Walt smokes a cigarette with Jesse in a weak attempt to get him back on his side, in which Walter almost hits the cigarette filter side -You guys may have alluded to this in the end talk, but during Melfi's dinner scene she mentions you wouldn't want to say the word Guinea in front of a patient of hers. In the car scene with Chris, while not directly he says it at Tony while insulting those with mental problems
Hey, you guys are doing a great job with The Sopranos. I especially like the 1 episode per reaction, whereas most people are cramming 2 per reaction. And I like your longer commentary. Great stuff.
Ironically, Christopher is the only character intentionally written to not have a "character arc"; he fails to see no one in "the life" cares for him, & ultimately its repetitive, destructive & borderline inescapable nature.
Chris is a very immature guy which makes him dangerous, particularly in this life. The thing that always stands out to me is Chris thinking a computer program would do most of the work on his dopey script. Stupid!
22:07 😂they got a blooper where she stood up n started shaking her ass bruh shit was funny. . . . . . . . . Nah I'm playing bluhh 🤣🤣that'd be hilarious though huh foos lmao
Michael Imperioli who plays Christopher wrote this episode. He also wrote other episodes throughout the whole series.

Fat dude in the bakery becomes a big character later on lol. Plays someone totally different
I just noticed and had to rewind! Unbelievable 🤣😂
Man that scene with Paulie and Chris talking about character arcs is great, one of my favorite scenes for sure
i agree, i wish they included the "You ever feel like nothing good was gonna happen to you?" "Yeah, and nothing did. So what?"
@@jorgeskuf I was thinking the exact same thing, favorite lines during that scene
The goodfellas reference, spider (chris)shot in the foot, Chris shoots the bakery guy.
“It happens.” Great reference and writing 💯
Absolutely and goodfellas is one of my favourite movies
Especially since I think Joe Pesci said it was an accident and that it happens

That paulie and Chris interaction is one of my fav moments
Paulie dropping some harsh truths, 7 billion people on the planet, we can't all be main characters with arcs.
Do you ever like nothing ever good was gonna happen to you?
@23:25 - No dude, she knew exactly what she was doing. 100%.
Chris shooting the guy in the foot was supposed to be an homage to his character spider in good fellas 😊

Tony and Chris were so close to having a real convo but they too “tough” lol
the Paulie and Christopher conversation is great

Thanks 🙏🏾
I’d suggest watching the show with subtitles. For me it helped me catch on to all the Italian names and phrases a bit easier
Charles schwab ova here
Take it easy, we're not shooting a western here
We watch with subtitles, but turn them off when we record the episode. It does help for sure

19:44 the growth spurt on aj through the entirety of the sopranos went crazy
You know who had an ark? Noah.
"You hear that Tone?, I said, You know who had an Ark? Noah, heh heh"- Pauly "Walnuts" Gultieri
They had to get the bakery scene from Goodfellas and ironically Chris was the one to portray it!!(He played Spider in the movie)
There’s a couple bad episodes coming up in season 1 but then it starts getting better again IMO
Boca AHIAH Isabella and no one knows anything
rip tony sirico
Dreams in 5he Sopranos are authentic that's how dreams be Randomness that seems normal.
lol facts, my dreams be crazy as hell sometimes
Goodfellas reference. The actor playing Chris got shot in the foot by Joe Pesci.
Chris is less feeling guilty, more depressed narcissist.
Ironically, Christopher is the only character intentionally written to not have a "character arc"; he fails to see no one in "the life" cares for him, & ultimately its repetitive, destructive & borderline inescapable nature.
I must stay loyle to my capo
I'm trying to figure out what the hell Tony said to that fed.
@No_One hilarious. That would make sense with the feds reply.
Can't wait until you guys get to the S1 finale, it gets wild. S2 is a lot better in my opinion and tied for my favorite season next to S4.
Notice Chris shot the bakery worker in the foot. Just Like Joe Pesci did to him in Goodfellas
I was so lucky to be born to my mother, not some psycho like Tony's mom!
Please google Tennessee Williams. One of the best playwrights since Shakespeare.
