He killed Ralphie just as much for Tracee (a girl Meadow's age) as he did for Pie O My. But in their machismo code, killing a guy over a race horse (lost money) is more "acceptable" than doing it over some "replaceable" stripper. This show is so layered. I've watched it easily 5 times start to finish, and some episodes more. You're always picking up subtle little details you missed before.

Can't go wrong with a Martin Scorsese Film and a tremendous cast. This 19th century historical film of civil strife, division, Immigrants, Nationalist & corrupt politicians is disturbingly too similar to this TRUMP era of bigotry, hate, insurrection & chaos.

This is such a Great and underrated Movie. Ever since I read the book I dreamed of the movie that could come of it, and I must admit... the book is better.

One of the brief scenes no one has mentioned is the scene where captain interrupts the guy in bed with his girlfriend. The “my stuff” the captain refers to is the looted silver he is mailing back home. Two packs of cigarettes to the mail clerk was all it took to get it wrapped and sent.

He knew he put the hit on his father the nurse even reminded him earlier in the season but he ignored it 😂

The floating carnivorous island....was a body floating that he performed cannibalism on to survive...the "carnivorous" aspect was that it would consume his sanity if he continued to feed on it. And the "meerkats".....were maggots.

Japan and South Korea have a complicated history. Japan conquered Korea and had it under its control for 50 years before WW2. Now, relations are significantly better, but there are lingering feelings because Imperial Japan wasn't very nice to put it gently and there are certain political groups in Japan who try to downplay that history. The movie as a whole plays into that symbolism with the female ghost being a Korean protective spirit against the foreign Japanese man and you have the shaman being the sellout of his community.

As an educator, you tell them the issue, then tell them how they can learn from it. Take a trade job, learn building code, she is intelligent, she just needs to continue her knowledge building

Claude Raines is fantastic in the Invisible Man, Peter Lorre is great in a lot of movies but as others mention M is such a great performance and classic of German cinema, and Dalio (the pit boss who gives Claude Raines his winnings) should be seen in the French movie Rules of the Game (both he and Lorre are in a lot of American movies as character actors but they were leading men before the war).

John wanted his daughter’s fiancé to call him dad because that’s what you do when you marry a man’s daughter. He becomes your father in law. But still a father. It’s not sexual or degrading.

It the first episode, you see them jumping with parachutes that deploy the risers first which then pull the chute out and it opens slowly with no sudden stop. Up until the attack on Pearl Harbor, the US was neutral. Many Americans, especially the wealthy, admired the Nazis and Fascism for the way they recovered from the Great Depression. They even held Nazi rallies in New York at MSG. They wanted to stay neutral and make a deal with Germany.

These guy's have been through basic training, the officers and NCOs are already serving in the army. They have volunteered for Airborne and can be washed-out or quit and return to the regular army. There are 5300 volunteers but the army only needs 1800. It is up to Sobel and the other officers to eliminate about 2/3 of these men.

For a segment of people "Catcher in the Rye," was a book they obsessed over. For me it's Thomas Mann's short story (maybe 30 pages) "The Joker." I've read it at least 100 times but have read the first page of the story at least 500 times. Every time I read that first page it's like I haven't read it before. It pops! The first page is extremely depressing. Don't read it if you are down. The story is just for people who are glutens for intellectual punishment.
