They threw away this world sadly Even made the same title gods and monsters to a new unrelated series basically saying "forget this series" to our faces
I really loved the short, which focused on Superman. For a dark and edgy version of Superman with the DNA of Zod, he has a lot more humanity and depth than other versions of "dark" Superman. I think one of the things that make this so heartbreaking is that you understood that Brainiac knew what Superman/aka Hernan, had to do to get him to stop, and the fact that he still asked and got him to consent basically means he knew what was coming. Then there's the fact that Hernan doesn't look away from it. He's slow, he's deliberate, he holds Brainiac and basically stares down this kid that he's about to murder and doesn't look away. Such a dark yet nuanced scene that shows how complex this take on Superman is as he is. He's clearly distraught by what he has to do, no matter how much he tries. I really hope we get more of this universe someday, possibly an Elseworlds comic someday?
Yes, distort and anti-hero the Justice League in everyday possible. What Demented??? what Twisted??? just enough, JLTAS - Justice League the Animated Series - THAT's how it is done.
It bugs me when people hate on Tara Strong’s Harley voice because they clearly haven’t heard it in Gods and Monsters. The first time I heard it myself I could hardly recognize her. Tara clearly has the range to do a less squeaky Harley but I just think that’s what directors lean her towards predominately which is unfortunate
I personally don’t think she’s a good Harley, I think she’s good in other roles, but not as Harley. But I personally don’t agree with a lot of Tara’s personal views she shares on Twitter currently, so I don’t care much for her right now.
I think this was my first ever true else worlds story as a kid and throughout my life t would randomly pop into my mind. Most of those times would be me thinking of different changes to the story, mostly just the ideas of bizzaro actually being kryptonian and being supermans brother and the kryptonian race in general being an evolved version of doomsday
You're the man, Vee! Just want to say, I love your video style and your passion for the stuff you talk about. Been a fan since your nWo series, where you started with a Razor Ramon vid, then Diesel, then Hogan, etc. Keep up the great work my man, and take care.
I can see Harley becoming this version, it funny enough shows that she can become insane even without help of Joker. Knowing Amanda Waller and Lex Luthor from the Batman Tas universe show and the comics, i would say Amanda Waller would be much worse as a leader than Lex Luthor, she would be far more dictatorship than Lex Luthor would be. In New52, Bekka became a Yellow Lantern for a bit. The Metal Men r indeed heroes, each with diff personalities, so some r more heroic than others in team.
A scientist who gets vampire powers while trying to cure his disease and decides to become a blood-drinking super hero?.......er that's Morbius. Which ironically leans even more into the "bat-powers"
Thank you Vee for continue covering this elseworld universe. All the media related to this universe is my favorite, especially the depiction of Superman, who, unlike Clark, didn't grow up as an American citizen. He grow as an undocumented immigrant who despite living with a loving family, saw the world and the injustices within that shape his personality and how he sees the world. The Brainiac short shows it: an godlike being that uses violent methods but only when it necessary without enjoying it. That's the morale grey area that not many superheroes stories don't dare to show and this is shown in the movie with the rest of trinity, who sre essentially flawed people, especially this vampire Batman (portrayed perfectly by Michael C. Hall). The only problem which I have (outside that they didn't continue this universe) is that in the movie Superman origins was introduced in the opening but never mentioned again (outside one line with a conversation with Lois). I wish they didn't more with that backstory but at least they did expanded with the tie-in comic that tells his childhood and how he became this universe's Superman. I really hope you cover the comics bc it shows how much potential Gods and Monsters had.
It’s not out of place for lex luthor to have hair when he was created he had red hair and there wasn’t any plans to make him bald the only time he was bald back then was an artists mistake who forgot to draw his hair in one issue the bald head was never canonized in Superman comics but in the origin of Superman coming to earth in the 1949 superboy comics where he was present during the mentor shower thst happened to be happening the at the same moment as Superman’s landing on earth cause back then the superboy comics were like his smallville days which is actually what the creators of the terrible show smallville used as a basis for the series according to the creators in the Superman documentary that was released basically as promotional material for Superman returns cause it end with a look at Superman returns
The Superman/Brainiac episode is just a mini masterpiece. It tells us that Superman is a tragic hero in a world that makes the monsters it fears the Justice League actually is.
They canceled the sequel Show and Movie because they thought it was too similar in tone to Justice League Dark. Which is a HUGE shame. I love this universe. Its not just “evil versions of mainstream versions”, its entirely different characters from the main universe.
This series gets right what other “dark and edgy” Justice League takes get wrong, despite how flawed and violent this version of the Justice League is at the end of the day they’re still heroes.
There's something very appealing about this variant. Maybe it's how it pokes and prods at the alternates that the multiverse might have and explores how we might have the trinity, but which isn't the same people. Similar, but drastically different. And pretty dark too, and a lot more grey
I would have watched ten seasons of this just for Bat-Dexter. Not only do I think his voice suits the character perfectly, but I absolutely love the design and I think it's a fascinating take on the character. I would have loved to have seen how weird and creative and out there the creators of this show could get.
have to agree it's turning 10 volumes into effectively 3 episodes of story as the main plot sort of happens in the BG until the last 20 minutes or so when Magnus pulls a 'Murder she wrote' and explains how he did it all before they beat his ass down.
I really loved how different the DC trinity is to their mainstream counterparts but how well they fit into the roles. Particularly Superman where he is an immigrant to Earth but unlike Clark who is loved by his adopted parents and is quickly accepted by Earth, Hernan is similarly loved by his adopted parents but is rejected by Earth because he is regarded as an illegal immigrant. He has seen the goodness that is in humanity but is far more jaded than Clark's version. And I like how when he finds out he is the son of Zod and was used in place of Jor El's son, Hernan is dissapointed and firmly decides that he wants to be a real hero
Highly underrated. Rewatched the episodes and the movie, and it’s just so disappointing that they didn’t take advantage of Elseworlds to continue. I’d love a sequel to Gotham By Gaslight too
I remember when these shorts came out they said "The DC Animated Universe is back" and I was like "Oh, cool!" but when I saw these were *alternate realities* of famous DC superheroes that have no involvement with the main DCAU timeline I was like; "...Soooooooooo... not *THE* DC Animated Universe then?" You have to admit that it's kinda odd to call it THE DC Animated Universe when it was meant to be about *multiple* universes.
I dont consider it a "short lived series". It was three short films to coincide with the movie to give us an idea who this Batman, Superman and Wonder woman were as well as other characters
I was quite skeptical when I saw the thumbnail but I'm beyond glad that I clicked cause I just have always been invested in the world that the movie explored and to find out that there's more content makes me happy
Zodman killing Brainiac, Jr. is reminiscent of Miracleman killing Johnny Bates in Alan Moore's take on that character. Not sure if it's a conscious rip-off but it's way too similar.
Interesting how no one complained about "diversity" & "inclusion" when this was released. You have a Mexican Superman that's the son of Zod, a New God that's Wonder Woman, and a literal Vampire Batman that kiIIs his victims. Then there's the fact that they turned heroes into villains, and vice versa. They even went as far as recreating the "Red Wedding" from GoT with Highfather being the corrupt villain that double crosses Darkseid. It's almost as if they can accept alternate versions of existing characters, as long as they're not gay or a POC.🤔
I can't stand with these former heroes they are now shackles of repentence, the flames burning, and my heart had already turned to ashes, why son of zod killed that alien child, a weak and cowardly useless being, this is very frustating, At least I have something to learn from the past, the fact is that they must be punished as antagonists kirk langstrom, Hernan guerra and bekka, there are not super heroes they are now super villains as foes againt the order.
Sorry not a fans of the short series like a lot of things when it comes to comic books and comic book heroes and stories riders of our generation seem to want to go extremely dark and extremely seedy on their take It's really nothing new and it's really already happened multiple times from the watchman so forth. And their take of Quinn is kind of obnoxious so not a fan not crazy about it and I don't think we really lost anything.
They threw away this world sadly
Even made the same title gods and monsters to a new unrelated series basically saying "forget this series" to our faces
That's deeply disappointing.
"a few dark , sadistic case". WTF? No wonder the series is gone.
I really loved the short, which focused on Superman. For a dark and edgy version of Superman with the DNA of Zod, he has a lot more humanity and depth than other versions of "dark" Superman.

Why Dark and edgy WHEN WE NEED HOPE????? Look at the freaking world we live in!!? No wonder it was canceled.
Shame really. They had so much potential to explore
Yes, distort and anti-hero the Justice League in everyday possible. What Demented??? what Twisted??? just enough, JLTAS - Justice League the Animated Series - THAT's how it is done.

Tara clearly has the range to do a less squeaky Harley but I just think that’s what directors lean her towards predominately which is unfortunate
I just prefer her original voice actress. Tara's Harley suffers from the oversaturation of Harley in media.
Many people generally try to go off Arleen Sorkin's example, yeah
I don't like Rouch's version nor the other girl in the new series (both from Bing bang).
I personally don’t think she’s a good Harley, I think she’s good in other roles, but not as Harley. But I personally don’t agree with a lot of Tara’s personal views she shares on Twitter currently, so I don’t care much for her right now.
Nowadays people don't like her more for spreading misinformation.
that Brainiac short is phenomenal
Every time I hear the Kevin Conroy voice at the end I cry a little bit
Gods and Monsters is one of my favorite DC animations. I want more
I feel the same way
As Elseworlds style worlds go, this one had a lot of promise imo. Sad it's been forgotten
Also showed that even General Zod's son could be good if raised by the right parents.
I find this Superman the most intetesting of all the animated Supermen.
Honestly I think LOSH, My Adventures with Superman, Fleischer, The Batman and DCAU rank higher than This take
I think this was my first ever true else worlds story as a kid and throughout my life t would randomly pop into my mind. I miss this art-style.
0:33 Yes. Review the comics.
9:07 It more explore in the comics.
And it did built Guerra to become a visionary.

3 Episodes, 3 Characters.
Til this day Gods and Monsters is one of my favourite justice league stories

This world having much darker iterations of tye characters and much different, feels like a precursor of the coming soon absolute universe
I think a cool video would be one on the motivations of Batman's main villains (maybe top 12 at least).
This series gets right what other “dark and edgy” Justice League takes get wrong, despite how flawed and violent this version of the Justice League is at the end of the day they’re still heroes.

This show is a thousand times
Better then caped crusader.

I loved the movie, animated shorts, and the comic
I didn't even know about this series! I'm def interested in checking this one out. Thanks for enlightening us, Vee
I vaguely remember the movie this was a prequel to. Such a buried memory....
One thing I loved about the Brainac short was that it was essentially the plot of Akira but if Tetsuo wasnt a dickhead.
dc needs to make more gods and monsters. it was by far their best animated film.
I liked the movie, but yes, those short episodes are so much better. But it would be cool for you to cover the tie in comics.
Would love to hear more about their appearances in comics!
Oh please do the comics! I read the Superman one, I really liked it
Highly underrated. Rewatched the episodes and the movie, and it’s just so disappointing that they didn’t take advantage of Elseworlds to continue.
I’d love a sequel to Gotham By Gaslight too
I really wish we'd gotten more from this timeline.
Sadly, since WB wiped the DCAU from existence, that'll never happen now.
i really wanted more of this
Best superman ever,he was the most human of all.
This is what the Absolute universe should be
I remember when these shorts came out they said "The DC Animated Universe is back" and I was like "Oh, cool!" but when I saw these were *alternate realities* of famous DC superheroes that have no involvement with the main DCAU timeline I was like; "...Soooooooooo... not *THE* DC Animated Universe then?"

I never saw this movie, nor the show., but I’m always a big fan of universes with “ new spins” on everything and one.
Harley looked ugly thou
wasnt this already a vid on the channle?
So off-puttin', it put me off puddin'.
Lex Luthor is essentially Metatron in that timeline, if not, filling the role of Metatron in that timeline
I dont consider it a "short lived series". It was three short films to coincide with the movie to give us an idea who this Batman, Superman and Wonder woman were as well as other characters
I was so looking forward into gods and monsters and to this day I still wonder would happen. & why it never got continued.
Part 3 of that 90s show is out! Be waiting to hear your thoughts!
You will make a review about Batman the caped crusader
?
It’s currently being worked on
Was a cool movie would love to hear about the comics
Damn way better then caped crusader wish Bruce timm did this
This sounds like a fever dream
These are awesome
Idk why but I was all in on this universe when. It was coming out.
5:29 😂
I wish this had a sequel
Yup. Loved the shorts. LOVED THEM, then the movie was just kinda, there. Not horrible, just no where near the shorts.
I was quite skeptical when I saw the thumbnail but I'm beyond glad that I clicked cause I just have always been invested in the world that the movie explored and to find out that there's more content makes me happy
Man, i loved this whole arc when it was happening.
Then it all just fizzled out 🤷

This is how you make an edgy elseworld.
Was always annoyed that the "series" was a total of 15 minutes that it wasn't on the DVD
Damn, we got robbed
This should have been a series
I liked it.
0:14 1:10 3:05 5:20 6:45
is this a reupload i swear ive seen this before
😎👍
Hey Vee, not sure if you watch anime or not but do you think you will talk about the new suicide squad one at some point? (good vid as usual btw)
well they made 3 promotional episodes for the movie
job fullfiled

Bekka is the New God of love and war she at onne time held a lantern ring. she is the granddaughter of highfather
The shorts was really good except wonder woman
Where can you watch this series?
Why !! Why was it cancelled it was so good 😢
we cant have nice things!
I can't stand with these former heroes they are now shackles of repentence, the flames burning, and my heart had already turned to ashes, why son of zod killed that alien child, a weak and cowardly useless being, this is very frustating, At least I have something to learn from the past, the fact is that they must be punished as antagonists kirk langstrom, Hernan guerra and bekka, there are not super heroes they are now super villains as foes againt the order.
wait what they used maschinima
I’ve seen this before; is this a reupload?
I felt like the movie was rushed, I wish they had the time to expand the story instead of rushing it.
What the plant guy said
Can someone please advise where I can find someone who's put the Chronicles on a disc ?????
The end of Man of Steel done right. Come at me!
Please do a video on the comics.
Are you going to do a video about kite man hbo show
Major missed opportunity for this series
Respectfully you're saying you didn't enjoy this one but you enjoyed the flash movie?
Hmm are you guys going to talk about films and shows that aren't just about DC?
👍🏿
They were a one of, so they burned them in one go.
It was really entertaining but too much.
😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉😂
I... was not of fan of what this series did with Harley Quinn.
First

JL Gods and Monsters is the WORST story.... It is SO stupid.
blah blah blah bottom massage
