I love your videos. It's hard to imagine how tough these guys had to have been living in those times. Just tolerating the hard terrain and brutally cold weather makes me cringe.
Honestly, just marching in unknown lands with almost no roads where it always rains or snows is bit grim. Most battles were ambushes. I grew up next to river that led to pagan fortress. In the forest nearby there were battles and those crusaders who died had a small tombstone with cross on it. One old house nearby had those stones in it's foundations.
Imagine the devotion to Christ was that strong. To wander into strange forests surrounded by enemies and knowing they may never even be able to give you a headstone if you’re killed. These Teutonic Knights were men of bravery and faith. We should really see them as men to be emulated.
everyone underwent that.... even my people were forced to convert by evil spain. whats different was the baltic prussians were replaced by germans while we remained the same bloodline with our ancestors.
Martin was a "half brother" to the Teutonic Knights in the writings. That was because he was an initiated Loyal Huntsman in service of the Knights. The Teutonic Knights were allowed to eat meat and the Order of Loyal Huntsmen provided it for them as well as serving them in military roles (combat roles and training in the ways of the woods like scouting, tracking and ambush).
Their best weapon the Russians had during the era of the Northern Crusades was a man named Alexander Nevsky, he repelled German Teutonic Knights incursions into Holy Eastern Orthodox Russia in the early 1240s A.D.
Hmm...you suppose the whole "moved into pagan territory and settled there displacing the pagans" thing had something to do with the attacks on Teutonic settlements?...
But if you'd asked the Teutonic Knights, they would've told you they'd come to the area in the first place because the Prussians were making slaves raids into Christian lands.
Is there any series of history, adventure books describing the lot, fortune of even an imaginary Teutonic protagonist in Prussia? Can you recommend me something?

The former. From memory, the Catholic Polish requested western support to deal with their pagan neighbours in Lithuania and German crusaders answered the call, obtaining lands from the Polish as well as carving out their own territory at the Baltic coast. Eventually though the Polish came to revile the German crusaders as invaders and defeated them decisively at the Battle of Grunwald, 1410.

I'm torn when I hear these stories. I understand it was a violent time and raiders and marauders had to be opposed and defeated but many actions by so called Christian knights and kings engaged in were abject brutality
Your ignorance shows. One does not reach a violent people's with non violence. You have to show them your capable of the same barbarism. Otherwise they'll never respect you.
I wasn't a fan of your presentation style but this gives me hope. Less guests more structured videos and you could easily match baz or kingsandgenerals
Dirty Harry i think I only caught episodes that seemed like a podcast. I've found quite a few episodes structured like this one. This channel is awesome.

Outstanding! This could easily be made into a movie.
Agreed! This is movie material!
Just like the 1241-1242 Mongol invasion that threatened Western Civilization's existence, I'm surprised it hasn't been adapted as a film or TV series.

You are truly the best source for medieval and crusader history. There is so much misconception
My Baltic ancestors were evangelized by the Teutonic Knights during the 13th Century using the "Convert or Die" technique.
Ummm…Based?

Good storytelling
Jakub Różalski created an art illustration of a Teutonic knight facing Lithuanians as werewolves, cool stuff.
guys lets take a moment to appreciate how great this channel is
A history lesson like this show's how little I knew. Great job.
Can you talk about what Russians used during the northern crusades
Vodka!!!
Their best weapon the Russians had during the era of the Northern Crusades was a man named Alexander Nevsky, he repelled German Teutonic Knights incursions into Holy Eastern Orthodox Russia in the early 1240s A.D.
@@robertsettle2590 Fun fact, vodka didn't exist during the Middle Ages. It's an Early Modern invention.

Well edited and well presented.
He converted to Christianity?
He died as he lived. Fighting, screaming. Never begging for mercy. He became an Vengeful Spirit. Maybe in the end, he found peace in death.
go Martin van Gaalen!
Great closing. 👌
Thanks!
Hey thanks for the tip! Glad you enjoyed the video.

A newbie in the topic of northern crusades here. What was about? forcing catholicism in the pagans? response to pagan attacks on missionaries?
