These knight hospitaler very incredible fighters, always so out numbers and always meeting the challenge, they even beat back the elite janitors mainly hand to hand when the first fort fell, the hospitelers fought to the last man, only a few left
Like the siege of Vienna, the siege of Malta ended with the heroic assaults of Christian warriors and their allies. They will never be forgotten as long as "real" history is taught.
wasn't voltair anti Catholic? and a heretic, he got sick one day so bad he asked for a priest to see him, after he got better he went back to his old ways, and he suffered a horrible death.
If anyone has enjoyed Ernle Bradford's "The Great Seige: Malta, 1565", I would also recommend his "The Sword and the Shield" which covers the full history of the Knights from the time of their creation back in Jerusalem. (And, no, I'm not one of his relations!)
The title so incorrect! So very few knights fought the siege! Most of the mastery and brave warriors where actually Maltese no names as they had no title but had the courage and will to turn the tide of battle. Something that the Hospetalliers failed to achieve without the help of the population back in Rhodes.
The Maltese always "forget" that in addition to the Knights and Maltese militia there were a few thousand Spanish and Italian soldiers and they were most of the professional fighting men. These soldiers were the majority of the defenders of St Elmo. Also, it was a Spanish fleet and a Spanish army that lifted the siege as the Turks were ready to winter in the island. The Maltese defense was heroic enough, no need to ignore the role played by Spain and its Italian allies.
_Malta of gold, Malta of silver, Malta of precious metal,_ _We shall never take you!_ _No, not even if you were as soft as a gourd,_ _Not even if you were protected by an onion skin!_ *And from her ramparts a voice replied:* _I am she who has decimated the galleys of the Turk_ _And all the warriors of Constantinople and Galata!_
The people of Crete are well known historically for their stubbornness as well. They proved a pain in the backside for the Persians, Romans, and the nazis.
On every 8th Semptember, we Maltese sing the traditional Te Deum and in Senglea, Naxxar, Mellieha and Xaghra, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Victories.
I would love to hear more songs made about this battle and also I am very eager and hope that there is a movie made. I mean honestly who wouldn't want a movie made about this and other epic great last stands that faithful Christian's made to defend themselves.
D XD The Knights of St. John were divided into Langes (languages). Each unit represented a country or nation. Remember that this was a Catholic religious order and included believers from all nations. One of the knights was a Colonel Mas, a Spaniard, who died in the fight. There were even two English knights, remnants of the English Lange that survived the dissolution of religious orders under Henry VIII.
The biggest mistake the Turks made was in failing to take M'dina, the old Maltese capital. This was a base for the Knight's small cavalry force that not only harried the Turks at every opportunity but played a pivotal role in the siege of St Angelo, when just before it was almost overrun, an attack by this small force led the Turks to think they were being attacked by a much larger force of the long rumoured relief force, forcing them to retreat.
Some of the Turkish leaders wanted to take Mdina first! However, the overall commander in charge felt the taking of the 3 fortresses themselves would be enough. They planned for a relatively short siege. They were wrong!
@@SkunkyBrew Dragut was a naval man with little or no knowledge of land warfare, Mike only put in command to stop Mustafa Pasha and Piale Pasha from throttling each other. The Turks did take a look at M'dina but were put off a siege after seeing how well appointed and defended it seemed to be. Knowing how much trouble the smaller and less defended Fort St Elmo was causing them, they decided to pass on trying to take it. Little did they know that the walls were mostly manned by uniformed corpses, placed their by the remaining defenders. As you say, they were wrong :)

It would have been just to mention thanks to who that battle was won, by saying and showing what was ingrawed on the Sword of Birgu, Jean's sword.
At the age of 70 years old leading a army to defend a island welding hand to hand combat weapons and such....wow impressive for 70 and in that era of medicine also. 😮😮
Much appreciated, thnx -
What would you say was the last crusade?

I come back and watch this periodically.
This should have been put into a movie with Ridley Scott directing it. The Battle of Lepanto should be the climax. That would be epic!
These knight hospitaler very incredible fighters, always so out numbers and always meeting the challenge, they even beat back the elite janitors mainly hand to hand when the first fort fell, the hospitelers fought to the last man, only a few left
same order of knights had defended the island of rhodes in greece, a long bloody siege ..after the fall they were established in malta..well prepared

Like the siege of Vienna, the siege of Malta ended with the heroic assaults of Christian warriors and their allies. They will never be forgotten as long as "real" history is taught.
The Spaniard reinforcements brazenly sailing into the harbor and giving a 3 gun salute made me laugh so hard.
wasn't voltair anti Catholic? and a heretic, he got sick one day so bad he asked for a priest to see him, after he got better he went back to his old ways, and he suffered a horrible death.
Make a video on the Siege of Siget where the Suleiman died
Dragut, the pirate was killed in Malta and his brother .
The Ernie Bradford book on this is great
_Malta of gold, Malta of silver, Malta of precious metal,_
_We shall never take you!_
_No, not even if you were as soft as a gourd,_
_Not even if you were protected by an onion skin!_
*And from her ramparts a voice replied:*
_I am she who has decimated the galleys of the Turk_
_And all the warriors of Constantinople and Galata!_
Maltese Baby! Wooo. Seriously we're the most stubborn people I've ever met on the planet. Quite formidable.
Cheers brother 💪👊
Amazing island and amazing people, i travel from England 4 times a year to Malta for my holidays
The people of Crete are well known historically for their stubbornness as well. They proved a pain in the backside for the Persians, Romans, and the nazis.
Not more then Afghans
That was an amazing story, thank you!
Very educational.
I did not know all of this thanks
On every 8th Semptember, we Maltese sing the traditional Te Deum and in Senglea, Naxxar, Mellieha and Xaghra, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Victories.
Let's hear it for Christendom! Christ's enemies shall never vanquish his bride the Church!
Amazing.

This need a spin off KNIGHTFALL series

I proud the historycal church this moment. Very good.
Battle of Preveza please
Thumbs up if you think Knights Hospitaller and Ottomans both were awesome.
This should be retold to every school age child in the West. It would make an incredible movie. Helms Deep on steroids.
Great Fighters 💪
Ottoman headgear is really Rad! Made good targets I'd say.
St Elmo says he will destroy many Saracens okay?
I would love to hear more songs made about this battle and also I am very eager and hope that there is a movie made. I mean honestly who wouldn't want a movie made about this and other epic great last stands that faithful Christian's made to defend themselves.
@Nimadan you mean the great siege of Vienna or the one here of Malta?
Yet another contender, whom I did not named due to my bad name memory.
Oh yeah, time to hear about my favorite pirate knights
The title should read, The Ottoman Empire vs The Spanish Empire.
Spaniards did not play!
D XD
They did,italians too
Check out Don Garcia de Toledo, the clue is in the name.
@@CHIL2903 Exactly. Spain owned italy
D XD I get what you mean now. Yes, the Spaniards were serious contenders.
Thank Christ they won
