Decorated Great Helms were used for jousting. Since members of Teutonic Order didn't joust it means that they most likely never worn anything like it. Maybe for ceremonial porpuses, but just maybe.

@@maxangel3629 No, they were from the middle-northern part of Denmark, just like the contemporary Cimbri and Ambrones; these 3 tribes are best known for their clashes with Rome; hence the expression "Teutonic fury".

@@maxangel3629 Austria, Denmark, England, Faroe Islands, Flanders, Frisia, Germany, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Lowland Scotland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Shetland and Sweden - are all ethnic Germanic people; that historical label even shows in DNA. The term ”Germanic” was given to these people by the Romans, long before there was a country named Germany in English; as you know, Germany in German is Deutschland.
In each of those modern named geographical places, there were typically many different tribes; hundreds and hundreds are described. And historians like for instance Pomponius Mela and Ptolemy clearly places the Teutons in what is today Denmark; according to the only contemporary map almost in the heart of Jutland.
This is backed up by lots of artefacts “imported” to Denmark, dated to the time when the Teutons, Cimbri and Ambrones clashed with the Romans in the late second century BC. Once an archaeologist said: “there are more artefacts of Celtic origin in Denmark than in Celtic countries combined” which of cause was a joke and not true, but there is a lot.
According to Tacitus, the reason for the temporary migration from Jutland was because of severe storm surges that had left half the peninsula uninhabitable. Denmark has historically suffered from lots of storm surges that often were devastating until the costs became secured.
Where are your sources that the Teutons came from what is today northern Germany; are you thinking about the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest? Let me put it this way: if you are right, lots of highly renowned contemporary historians were wrong. The Teutonic Order 1000 years later had nothing to do with the Teutons.

Thank you for this video. Its difficult to find something about the early days of the order. As a direct descendant of Heinrich Walpot Bassenheim the first „Hochmeister“ (Grand Master) I randomly look a up Videos about the Order. Btw Heinrich was fully initiated by the Knight Templars in the rank of a grandmaster and received the Templars rule, white habit, belt, oath etc. Hermann von Salza was a Student oh Heinrich Walpot. Interestingly most documentaries are pretty silent about grandpa Heinrich. I assume it’s cause of the roots and history of the title Walpot, which was feared throughout medieval times in France and Germany. The title Walpot is the old highgerman „translation“ of Grand Forestier de France, a title which was first given to Heinrichs forefather Lyderic le Buc form the Merovingians in 621, given to him by his uncle King Dagobert alongside with his daughter the princess. The title implemented the right and duty to rule over the family and imperial treasure which were the forests and northern coast of the francian Empire, which had to be protected from the Frisians and Vikings. On top of that my family had the duty to decide in courts over death penalties and were same time the ones who executed delinquents by the sword. So the title Walpot meant to most people something like Lordfrom royal blood Judge and Executioner in one person. After Heinrich Walpot died all of his descendants in the following centuries became Teutonic Knights and traveled with the Order from Akkon to Hungary, Vienna and finally to Prussia and we are still there. Thank you for you effort and do more videos. Greetings from Germany.
