Very interessting video.I find curious that in the start the vid had much of showing images of the former roman city of Palmyra(Syria) and its Muslim castle on the top of the mountain this between some of Malbork Castle which was the Order HQ in Europe for long time.
Thank you for this video. Its difficult to find something about the early days of the order. As a direct descendant of Heinrich Walpot Bassenheim the first „Hochmeister“ (Grand Master) I randomly look a up Videos about the Order. Btw Heinrich was fully initiated by the Knight Templars in the rank of a grandmaster and received the Templars rule, white habit, belt, oath etc. Hermann von Salza was a Student oh Heinrich Walpot. Interestingly most documentaries are pretty silent about grandpa Heinrich. I assume it’s cause of the roots and history of the title Walpot, which was feared throughout medieval times in France and Germany. The title Walpot is the old highgerman „translation“ of Grand Forestier de France, a title which was first given to Heinrichs forefather Lyderic le Buc form the Merovingians in 621, given to him by his uncle King Dagobert alongside with his daughter the princess. The title implemented the right and duty to rule over the family and imperial treasure which were the forests and northern coast of the francian Empire, which had to be protected from the Frisians and Vikings. On top of that my family had the duty to decide in courts over death penalties and were same time the ones who executed delinquents by the sword. So the title Walpot meant to most people something like Lordfrom royal blood Judge and Executioner in one person. After Heinrich Walpot died all of his descendants in the following centuries became Teutonic Knights and traveled with the Order from Akkon to Hungary, Vienna and finally to Prussia and we are still there. Thank you for you effort and do more videos. Greetings from Germany.

Did they really have horns on their helmets? It looks so badass! I seen other drawings with the Tuetonic's having horns.
@YoungNinja- 117 Yes, I was wondering this as well. It looks awesome, but it seems unlikely.
I don't think they wore horned helmets in battle, but horned Teutonic helmets did exist. Look up the Pranckh family Funeralhelm.
@k1w1 Agreed. Very bad idea for combat
