My response to Amir Liaqat, Mard March, and most importantly the reason we need a women's movement. Detailed data about the condition of women in Pakistan.
Sir. I am student of GC University lahore. I admire you so much and your Greek philosophy helped me obtained 80 marks in a semester. I wish we could meet at some point in future and have a lovely talk about social issues.
Sir, you have indeed highlighted and examined the real issues. Even I was surprised by some of the statistics. It's very alarming to see Women rights being so badly trodden upon. We need some basic policy changes on a smaller level to start making a change towards the better. And believe me, you gave us a ton of hope by being one of the people who spoke on the actual issues rather than merely commenting fruitless nonsense.
Agree with you mostly, but some slogans were really obscene and uncouth. Liberation doesn't mean being tasteless, unrefined and shameless. We admire Pakistani women for their taste, style and sophistication ;)
The vast majority of women in Pakistan live in poverty every single day of their lives. If you care about taste, style, and sophistication then maybe it would be better to focus on bettering the condition of poor women instead of focusing on the slogans of the occasional march or protest.

Men and women are created to be different. Nature itself has denied such equality. Physically and emotionally men and women are unequal, none better than the other or worse than the other, each with his/her own strengths. They are created with different strengths and weakness to complement each other. Actually they complete each other and not to compete with each other.
Dr Taimur, I do not live in Pakistan and have not seen the March, neither had a chance to have a one to one discussion with anyone there. But I think where most of the comments in opposition came from very ignorant point of view - which of course made some voices almost dumped down because of being comparatively fewer - there are some comments also that echo with some your lectures on feminism wave one lecture where you referred to critic by Rosa Luxemburg and Clara Zetkin. Yes it is important that women have their voice, but if they do not aim at even creating a solidarity and do do anything for initiating processes for micro politics, I think this criticism is quite valid it’s just privileged women doing it for upward political mobility
This is not due to ignorance; the Western world, where you dwell, has backed this movement in Pakistan, causing instability in my nation. I hope you and your government do not interfere with our everlasting affairs or impose your wicked agenda on my land.
For Apple to Apple comparison, it would be better to compare these statistics with men population of Pakistan especially in rural Pakistan, and then see what is the difference. I guess you will find that men are also oppressed and marginalized on many of these indicators. So oppression is not only for women but also for men. Men lack many of these basic facilities, so need of the hour is to put effort for health, education, sanitation, employment, malnutrition, lack of proper housing for both men & women. It is not like that men in rural areas are highly educated and women are illiterate, men have best doctors available in rural areas and women do not have, if women walk long distances then men also walk the same distance. There is no doubt that women are marginalized more than men but that situation is not better for men either.
Statistics are always great way to demonstrate facts. But Inate problem with statistic are how they are gathered and categorised. What narrative a statistical facts are based upon for eg you mention 29% of elites class of female doesn't have access to education or means to it but what kind of education is being considered or excluded in generation of statistical data. Therefore we need to adress statistic propagates a narrative which is very subjective depending upon peoples values of any class .
TBH the aurat march biggest defeat was that a lot women (from both high and middle class) criticized it. Anyway it was a good show, waiting for next year.
