I've had a CTX700n manual transmission for a few years. When I got it, it took a few days to get used to the handling and feet forward position. After that, it became tons of fun to corner and curve in the twisty's. Sometimes I'm afraid I'll lean it too much and I will lose it in a corner or curve. I'll do gravel roads with no problem (except for the fact I don't like to chip up the paint). That said, I am used to gravel as I still dirt bike on my Honda crf250f. Used to own a Ninja, Yamaha Maxim when i was younger, I'm 54 now. The one issue about the feet forward position is that you can not really use your legs to help absorb bumps in the road. I put a removal backrest on my CTX which helps on longer drives.
Thanks for the review. Yes the CTX700 is a very reliable bike. I've owned 2 of them, a 2014 CTX700N DCT and a 2015 CTX700 CTX DCT. Very comfortable to ride. The bike is very nimble at low speed and stable at highway speed. The DCT works almost flawlessly. Of the two bikes, I prefer the CTX700 with the fairings. Overall I'm very pleased with the CTX.

I'd like to give you some constructive criticism, because this video could have been 20 minutes shorter. I was listening to it while I was working on my bike, otherwise I would have turned it off early. Be clear and concise with your pros and cons and don't contradict yourself so much. Don't be so dramatic over trivial things like the gas cap. For anyone who wants a short list of what the CTX700 is good for/where it lacks here it is. Pros - great gas mileage, lightweight, nimble, easy to ride, comfortable (the seat can be the only issue for some people), simple, long maintenance intervals, low cost of ownership, reliability Cons - peg position means you can't really stand up on the bike to go over obstacles, entire fairing has to be taken apart to replace air filter, small storage cubby is great for glasses, gloves, wallet, but should be bigger, lacks acceleration power at highway speeds, limited suspension travel Final Thoughts - I believe Honda was a little confused about what niche market they wanted to attack when they created this bike, (especially the fairing version). Don't get me wrong, the bike is a lot of fun around town and blasting down back roads. However, a bike that looks like a touring bike needs to have adequate wind protection and storage, which it does not. The naked version is the better one to buy, because you don't get the nasty buffeting you will get with the fairing version (without a proper windshield). However, with all the money you can save by buying one of these used, you can afford additional luggage and any other mods you may desire. I don't want to dissuade anyone from buying one, because I do enjoy riding them, but if you're tall enough, you should just get the NC700/750. I wish I would have bought one of those instead of my 2014 CTX. The NC has substantially better storage, stock. It also has better ground clearance, better suspension, and better ergonomics for handling 'life' - like potholes, off camber turns, road debris, etc.. However, if the price is right and/or you're a little shorter/smaller stature rider, the CTX will make a great starter bike that won't bore you with a lack of power. It has plenty of power for new riders to grow into, without having excessive power that will get you into too much trouble as a new rider. The low seat height is great for shorter riders (5'10 and below). I'm 6'2" and I can ride a CTX comfortably, but do yourself a favor and get the NC.
The compartment in the gas tank is not to use it like U-Haul but to store small things and most likely your riding gloves.And that's brilliant design. Try stuffing your gloves in your jacket pocket and you will realize how handy that compartment is.
I put my garage door opener on velcro, upside down on the black lid of the storage area. simply open it up, push the button and drive into the garage, or close it while leaving w/o having to get off the bike.
I’ve had my 2014 CTX700 full faired version for just over a year. Absolutely love it! All the things he bashes about the bike I kind of love, makes the bike unique compared to the countless Harleys out there. Amazing gas milage, comfortable, plenty of power for the highway/commuting and with some hard bags and top case you’ve got tones of storage for groceries. Am I looking at getting maybe an adventure bike or a big touring bagger bike? Absolutely but I will definitely still be keeping my CTX700
Got mine 2 weeks ego in same color... with only 900 miles as my first bike. When I went shopping around for it CTX was my backup plan (I really like looks of Honda Shadow Phantom) but after sitting on both this one came easily on top. My legs and feet on CTX are in very natural position while riding... very similar to way I sit in my truck. When I put both feet down my legs are almost straight down as well (29in inseam). On Shadow seat was actually so low it was uncomfortable for me to have both legs down I’m 6ft tall and over 270 lb so I didn’t want to start on 300, but only having experience with MSF motorcycle I didn’t want to star on a bigger sport bike either. CTX700 has enough power to move with me at 60 mph (I don’t want to on interstate till I put windscreen on). At the same time it has little enough power not to buck me if I mess up gear change. I love little nook in front of me... first thing put it there was garage door remote so I can easily let myself back in after the ride... wish it was lockable, but with option of leaving it unlocked so I can use it as safe place to hold few things while at work/store but also have option of getting there in front of the house without shutting the engine down. I like the looks and that this motorcycle is a jack of all trades. It’s a cruiser, scooter, naked and with some bags and screen even a small tourer.
Google algorithm threw me back at this video so I would like to update my findings as a 4 month/3k miles review. I added 4 items to make it work pretty well for me: Wind screen, Soft saddle bags, usb charging port and ram fork stem mount. I live/ride in rural GA where many people still don’t lock their cars so compartment pocket works ok for me... but it would be more practical if it was lockable... or larger... or both... or not there at all. As it is I would rather have room to mount a tank bag I can grab with after I park. If I was parking in less secure location or couldn’t take gear inside with me I would splurge on hard lockable tail bags and/or top case... but as it is it I just can’t justify spending $1k+ on mounting hardware and boxes to attach it to $4k bike. I get 65-70mpg commuting to work and 70-75 riding back roads. So 150-180 miles before fuel gauge starts flashing reserve. I find it very comfortable on short rides and bit vibe-y at sustained speeds of 60mph and up. Performance wise I would put it at par with a 2000’s v6 Mustang/Camaro... not a slouch in a traffic but pretty “slow” for a bike. I have been to 2 group rides so far and... it does attract TONS of attention, especially from ladies looking for a bike and guys on fully tricked out baggers... wondering what kind of bike it is. Personally I’m really happy with a choice I made by buying used CTX700n. For Honda to sell more of those new they would need to make some tweaks and decide what niche this bike suppose to fill... as it sits it’s a nice base for a commuter once you add few creature comforts to it. ... oh btw I had chance to hear stock exhaust on it and I know why everyone does that mod first. Original exhaust looks like a giant soda can and sounds like 92 Accord my dad use to own.
@@Kris5344 Got an upgraded seat, soft bags, tank bag with straps (because magnets won't work), passenger backrest, and a wind deflector on order - wanted a particular one, not the Puig upright so that's taking a minute. USB charger is planned. I actually don't mind the exhaust note, but I ultimately want an electric so the quiet exhaust doesn't bother me. I *do* want to pull it off and paint it black, though - that chrome cannon sticks out like a sore thumb against the dark lower body.
After quite a hunt I got my 2015 700 D model. Absolutely love it. The ergonomics are perfect including the horn and blinker set up. And the storage everything I need for daily riding. Go with the Coffman exhaust. Worth the extra money.
It was my first bike after 30 years without riding. I rode CTX700 for one year. This is good bike for the beginners or for people, who are nor crazy with speed and long ride. I sold my CTX, because my wife love riding with me all the time and this bike is for one rider. I upgraded it too. I installed center stand, windscreen and backrest. My bike had ABS. Your- not. I liked it. Just too small for two up.
17:35 of the video... There is a special spot inside (at the top of) the glove compartment to put your gas cap. So nothing to hate about it - just explore... :)
you do not have to turn the key to lock the gas cap just push down on the gas cap and The gas cap will turn your key and lock it for your Also you can leave your gas cap in the indentation were you lift the lid to access your gas cap
I wish that on the automatic version they would change the brake to the same configuration as a bicycle. Right lever rear brake and left lever front brake.
That was an excellent review!!! I love mine because I have short legs (28" inseam). I agree with you about the gas tank compartment. I have so far kept my gigantic stock chrome exhaust because I don't want to mess up the back pressure requirements, but I might now choose to get one like yours. The stock muffler is super quiet though. The bike almost seems to be electronic (you old farts like myself might remember how "Kit" sounded back in the "Knight Rider" TV shows back in the late '80's), but it does almost sound like a regular motorcycle when you get on it a bit like I apparently do more often than you do. I bought my bike nude, but I installed a micro windshield on mine so that driving the bike cruiser posture at 80+ mph wouldn't feel like I was about to get blown off of the bike. Even though the windshield is so small, it also keeps most bugs from hitting my face because it functions like a wind deflector. Most bugs not smashed by the windshield get diverted above or to the side of me. As to speed: I have had mine up to 99 mph! No, that isn't really that fast, but I am happy with that speed ability. Thanks also for telling me that this bike will last for more than 100K miles.

I like the where the gas cap is. it means I don't have to dismount my bike. unlike the nc700x where it's under the back seat which requires you to get off the bike.
It's a bike for a old guy. That's already been and dun that .with sport,sportster, wing,big twins. Just need something EZ.on the knees that can keep up with traffic
I fit 2 packs of cigarettes and my motion pro chain setter tool. I have the shad saddle bags and madstad adjustable screen. the key can be copied I have a spare that opens the gad and starts the bike. 9 have a 2018 ctx700d full fairing dct model.
A wird question Sir, in sport mode, at what speed will it change up to the sixth gear? I have testdriven it for as short distance gut I forgot to check that out. Could you perhaps help me out with that?
My bike I usually get into 6th somewhere between 55 and 65 MPH depending on how hard I am accelerating and what speed I settle into. I find that unless I am on an open road I usually don't hit 6th gear unless I am in drive or manually shifting.
I'd be afraid to ride that it's to darn quiet & I got sleepy from the Elec noise & it probably is a easy bike to ride & great mpg but I really didn't see anything I liked
We live in an age, where there really arn't and bad bikes. The market is too tight, with most distributers experiencing a down turn in return. The CTX doesn't make much of a positive statement, in my opinion.
Im 15 minutes in and this guy has done nothing but complain about the bike while every other video ive watched people love the bike.

Yeah, I keep gloves, sunglasses, and beard comb in mine. It's great.
Agreed. Every review knocks this storage as useless. It holds my gloves, wallet and charging cords. Fine by me

Oh, and 5'8", 275ish - got it to 90ish MPH. 60-70 has been nbd without a windscreen, but 80-90, you're definitely hanging on tight

To release the key from the gas cap, just push the cap down. It will pop and release the key.
I think the turn signal below is easier to use I kind of like it way better than put it on the top

The horn placement my guess is due to the riding style in asia countries eg india where people beep more than signals

The bike is great but would have to agree with you on the storage compartment. Should have made the tank larger. But that's just being picky.
