She is incredibly empathetic and sympathetic towards Jaclyn. I would love if Jaclyn could actually see these videos because Abbey's advice is so good and I wish it was something that Jaclyn could hear. Based in science, NOT all-or-nothing mentality. Instead of policing I’m gonna instead share my experience: I also struggle with sugar addiction after going sober. It’s hard. So hard. I’m used to using something to make me feel better when I’m at my worst and now I don’t have that. But patience goes a long way and my heart goes out to Jacqueline
It gets better! Once the dopamine starts to level out again, you’ll be able to let it go. It’s ok to use that as a stepping stone!!! Congratulations on your sobriety!!
@@heartslove8449 It doesn't always go away easily. I've got many years of sobriety under the belt and still struggling with the food addiction aspect. It's addiction transference and it happens to more people than you realize. In the beginning, your body craves the sugar because it was used to it, since alcohol is nothing but carbs. And depending on your approach to sobriety, it's encouraged to eat those foods as it's a form of harm reduction. But for some, that craving slowly turns into an addiction, and unfortunately, addiction is a disease. If you have substance use disorder, it's very likely you can/will form an addiction to other things. But food and sugar is a hard addiction to face. You cannot abstain from food.
@@heartslove8449I’m sorry but I think this is awful advice. Using unhealthy coping techniques just makes relapse more likely in the future. And your dopamine will not “level out” if you keep engaging in activities that artificially trigger that reward pathway. It’s ok to struggle, recovery is hard, but tacking on another addiction will only make it harder.
At the same time though, sugar is far less harmful than alchohol. A sugar addiction can be compensated for with an otherwise healthy diet and lifestyle. Alcoholism cannot.
As far as losing your routine, I was in amazing shape in 2021, I was going to the gym, cooking balanced meals every night, etc. and then in the fall I got Covid and nothing was the same. Agree. After dealing with addiction to substances, people’s brains are so depleted of serotonin and dopamine that they reach for sugar to cope. Unless someone has felt that horrible feeling, they don’t need to speak on the topic. However, that sugar addiction usually fades as the brain starts to heal. Yes people can switch addictions, but it can also just be a coping mechanism until the brain reaches a state of equilibrium and normalcy. Giving people grace and privacy to heal is so important

Jaclyn, on the other hand, has chosen to put her entire life online (including her struggles with alcohol and food), so it seems far more appropriate to respond to her story as a case study.
I don't like Jaclyn, but that is an exceptionally mean thing to say about an addict who is and has made genuine efforts to quit, which have indeed led to long periods of sobriety. There are a lot of accurate, bad descriptions that fit her, but a "drunk", or "might as well be a drunk", is not one of them right now. Give addicts credit for their efforts and accomplishments on the road to and at recovery ffs. Reading stuff like this can completely knock someone off track; like if you see an anorexic who's recovering and you call her new, healthy fat "pudgy".
