I'm a Fender guy who is looking at G&L and I found a G&L FULLERTON ASAT CLASSIC ( single coils) ; wow , a telecaster on steroids ‼️ I don't think I can handle the humbucker ‼️🤣😂 I'm was going to get a professional 2 telecaster BUT NOT now, G&L🎸 ‼️👍
Wow: Humbucking sound was a gorgeous, full sound that sounds perfect for Jazz, chording, etc., then the bridge pickup is perfect for country twang. I'm sold!
Great review. You kept it in tune. Other reviews sound like there's tuning issues. I just bought one that's Got a turquoise Mist And a blond satin finish Neck . I can't wait to play it with the whole band
The humbucker in the neck position I think is a throw back to the 80’-90’s when session players like David Spinoza a dropped a PAF in to make their teles more versatile for session dates. The neck pickups were never used alone on this old teles as they were way too bassy. Check out Spinoza he’s an unsung guitar hero who played with everybody!
Unfortunately in my experience the humbucker dissapoints. It lacks clarity it's very dark and muddy. It's a great guitar though but that humbucker is not great. Maybe a pot upgrade would improve it.
Really nice and insightful review. Super well spoken and thorough. You have the demeanor that great guitar teachers possess too. Thanks, considering this current model at the moment, very helpful. I am a pro, and just looking for a good tele style workhorse to to add without spending big bucks like the rest of my arsenal. Good for gigging the rougher places, like you said. In case that something happens, i.e. stolen, knocked over etc.
I always wanted an American G&L Asat Classic Bluesboy. I finally got Tribute. About a year later I was able to get that American Bluesboy model. I have returned it to the dealer as there is Not enough difference between the two to warrant 3 times the money. Don't Be Fooled
I picked up the same guitar, color and all, used for $325. I have a 2019 Squier Classic Vibe Tele which sounds great, but I like this guitar too...nice. I have yet to take it home and play it - Los Lobos and Stray Cat Swing Rockabilly tunes is what I'm learning. Decent price for a guy who is a drummer! Wish me luck!
These are equal to Squier Classic Vibe series guitars and the MIM Fender Telecasters. From what I understand, the pickups in the g&l ASAT Tribute series guitars are the same as what they put in the American versions, of course I could be wrong. I don't own one but I tried one out at of the local shops and fell in love with it. Unfortunately someone bought it before I could. I think that the color was ARCTIC MIST(???) with the maple neck and fretboard. I wish I had bought it. One of the cool things about the g&l's is that not too many people know about them and they're sort of unique.
Some folks buy a Squire and then upgrade with expensive pick-ups and hardware, the G&L Tribute while also built in Asia already comes with the USA made pick-ups/hardware.
I was given one to play on a short tour. It was amazing. Sounded really nice and was great to play. Still considering buying one, even though I don't play much electric these days. I'm a professional guitar player and it's easily up there with any Fender I ever played. Get one!!
The tone knob is everything on this guitar. The bridge pickup will pierce your eardrum. My neck is a white maple however. For the 299.00 I paid, it is a fantastic guitar. Fit and finish from factory excellent. Factory strings excellent. Tuners fantastic. I find this guitar very difficult to use with a distortion pedal. Almost impossible. It's great for country, jazz, clean. Suits my Jerry playing just fine.
eJacob Cornelius Both are great guitars for the money. Both created by Leo Fender! Because G&L is a smaller company some prefer dealing w/ a smaller manufacturer as long as their build quality matches the bigger guys. G&L achieves this!
It sounds really like my homebuilt teak wood Tele. Maybe it's the teak, I don't know. I posted vdos of me playing my homebuilt teak Tele if you're interested. Great review, awesome 👍
Not a whole lot. I would go with the Thinline version, as the cavity helps keep the weight manageable ( I have both a Fender Telecaster Thinline and a G&L ASAT basswood solid body, and as one with back issues, prefer the Thinline if I'm playing for an hour or more.)
IMO, G&L’s Tribute series is more consistent in terms of fit, finish, etc. Tribute series seem to appear as main-line and backup guitars w/ some club bands I know. Squire Classic Vibe is a nice guitar but I don’t see them doing any duty w/ serious players.
@@TerrySmithJ Thanks for replying. I got the Classic Vibe($275). I was chomping at the bit to buy something tonight and the guy with the G&L didn't get back with me in time. I'm super impressed with the clean sound from the CV. It has the magic. I may buy the G&L in a couple of weeks if it's still there and keep the one I like more. I'd take the CV anywhere though.
Brian David Stoliker My videos are done for people who want help in deciding what’s the best value for their hard earned $$. In order to do that I purposely keep my licks to a minimum and discuss the What, Why, How, and Who’s. What it is, Why G&L built it, How they achieve these things, and Who it’s built for.

Thanks Man. This was helpful to me. I found one for $350 and can't wait to add it my collection of awesome to play guitars that cost less than $500!
this is my whole collection, but i picked good colors so whos gonna know lol
Very good review! I think the bridge deviates a bit from the Fender Tele sound- G&L sounds better! Better for jazz and blues than a Tele , I'd say.
I would it is fatter and warmer. I used to have a s500. It could sound like a strat and more!
Really liked your video, especially your approach of giving feedback on the type of player the guitar would be suited for. Thanks, and great job!
Excellent value guitars if you can get one pre 2014 they are built slightly differently than they are now
Great review. You kept it in tune. Other reviews sound like there's tuning issues. I just bought one that's Got a turquoise Mist And a blond satin finish Neck . I can't wait to play it with the whole band
Hey two years later, how did you like it!?
@@kremepye3613 I love it. Stays in tune and intonation is good. Low action with a slightly wider fretboard. Versatile.
@@kremepye3613 I added a high output Humbucker fyi, so I can play heavy rock riffs. The stock Humbuckers is better for blues or jazz.
@@dannysmuzic1807 sounds great
Really well thought out review, quick and straight to the point. Much appreciated!

nice review on this guitar, best i found, thanks
nice cant wait for mine to arrive in a few days .. sounds great in your vid
I have an ASAT Classic Tribute series, but am looking for a Bluesboy cause I like the idea of a singlecoil-humbucker combo.
Unfortunately in my experience the humbucker dissapoints. It lacks clarity it's very dark and muddy. It's a great guitar though but that humbucker is not great. Maybe a pot upgrade would improve it.

this is on amazon for £380, do you think this is a good deal. I already own a rampage tribute by GnL which I absolutely adore
I'm not up on USD to British pound exchange rates at the moment, but that sounds like a pretty fair price. I paid around $500 for my ASAT.
Nice advice. Thank you
Does this one have Jescar frets? If it does, its really great.
I have a few G&L tribute series guitars....tried a tribute bluesboy...they did right putting a MFD in the bridge but failed on the neck pick-up..
Good review 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Looks good to me. Enough of a difference between this and my classic vibe to buy it.
Very useful, practical review of this guitar. I'm torn between this and a standard Tele.

You’re welcome have fun!
great review...I'm shopping for one, trying to decide which and how much to spend.
I'm looking for "twangy" sound MIM tele is a bit expensive for me. This or Squier Classic Vibe which one do you recommend?
@ozzie houser I've tried it before but it had no a 'telecaster' character. not twangy though
Get the g&l if you can, because if you don't someone else will. Try lowering the pickups.
Fretboard is 9.5", not 9".
The vintage was 7.25", not 7.5".
I want one but can't find one. There is definitely not a thousand $ difference between this and the USA Fullerton built model.
It sounds really like my homebuilt teak wood Tele.
Maybe it's the teak, I don't know.
I posted vdos of me playing my homebuilt teak Tele if you're interested.
Great review, awesome 👍
Does the Basswood make it a lot lighter ? Like for people with bad backs etc. Nice Thanks DD
I picked up the thinline version for just that reason. As an old fart, LP's are off my list.
Not a whole lot. I would go with the Thinline version, as the cavity helps keep the weight manageable ( I have both a Fender Telecaster Thinline and a G&L ASAT basswood solid body, and as one with back issues, prefer the Thinline if I'm playing for an hour or more.)
Which do you think is a more serious guitar between this and a Squier Classic Vibe?

"type of sound".....hunh? Love G&L
Here’s David S monster picker!!ua-cam.com/video/NTtdROJcAps/v-deo.htmlsi=O8KtN6Zo0-F6OpHS
It's built well but the pickups are really generic and pure trash. Especially the neck which is mud central.
Much...much bla bla bla bla.....nada de sound.???
A review of a musical instrument with no music - the very definition of pointless. I'm sure he's a fine fellow but misguided in this effort.

you talk WAY too much
And you are really a mean person. I bet you have zero friends. Sad.
