Many people think the neck pickups on the bluesboys are "too warm", but I think the Bluesboy, more than almost any other guitar I've ever played, is meant to be played with *both* pickups most of the time and then you can switch to a single pickup to get warmer or brighter as necessary. I've gotten amazing "Spoonful" tone with both pickups and then switched to the neck to get that "woman" tone. The bridge pickups is a lot like a '52 Tele bridge pickup with more output.
Great demo, Jon. The audio quality is great and your playing is excellent. I like the fact that you cycle through the different pickups, demonstrating both clean and over driven tones. Thanks for taking the time to do such a good job!
Just ordered this guitar. So excited to get it! I did a lot of research before investing in another guitar. At first the idea was to build a guitar myself but over time I researched and studied more about what I wanted and needed and by the end of my journey I found the G&L Bluesboy. It literally has everything I was looking for in a guitar right down to the finish. So stoked! Also, I just subscribed to your page! Great guitar playing!
Lovley sound, particularly with both pick ups. OMG I thought I’d had enough guitars, but this one has to go on my list. Thanks Jonathan again for taking your time to produce this informative video.
This video inspired me, Jonathan, in my research looking for a Telecaster. I'm just a semi-retired writer coming back to guitar after years of being a dad and a member of the rat race (environmental consultant). I was dead set on a high-end Tele. Definitely wanted to buy a new guitar. But I watched and listened here (and to other vids of yours) and settled finally on the Fullerton ASAT Classic. The wam tone and clean mode, especially with both pickups engaged, is so freaking inspiring. So much fun! Something about the dirty sound is also kind of engaging too. Mostly, just thanks, man. G&L owes you an extra one.
G&L guitars are made at the original Fender factory in Fullerton , California. I took my 1980’s Legacy for service and they I installed a brand new neck at no charge, even though I had bought the guitar used . I’m considering a tele style electric and G&L are st the top of my list 👍
Hi Jon, nice demo again. very beautiful guitar but US made is expensive, €1814 at MusicStore.de . Anyway I was blown out by the clear tones that made me think of Quadrophenia and Who's Next by The Who ( while Pete Townshend played a Gretsch G6120 on these albums ). I like the definition and tone of that Alnico 2 Humbucker. I may sell 2 or 3 mid range good guitars to finance this one !!????

I’ve never had the opportunity to even try playing a G&L because I’ve never seen any in any local music stores. Although I’ve heard a lot of good things about this brand, how do you think this compares to a similar Fender model? Is it better or worse? Most people I’ve talked to over the years who’s ever played them always said they preferred the G&L over their Fender counterparts. What is your opinion, Jon?
Hi Jon, I just received that superb G&L Fullerton Deluxe ASAT Classic Bluesboy ( what a name ! ) , thanks to your demo, I coud not resist ( I resisted to GAS 3 days long ! haha ) to order it after listening to you. Yes Premium price (€1814 at Music Store.de) , I may have found a cheaper equivalent from Fender, MIM or MIUS, anyway this one is a beauty, perfectly crafted and so well singing. Thanks again for demo, nice playing and recommandation.
@@JonIsJustTooLoud thanks, I chose orange stain, thinking of the Gretsch G6120 that Pete Townshend played on Quadrophenia. That surprised me a lot that a Telecaster could offer about the same tone than that Gretsch, but Alnico 2 humbucker together with telecaster design help in this thin bright tone in middle position. "You know what ? I'm happy !" Haha 😁
@@JonIsJustTooLoud hi, how are you doing ? Hope vibrations are positive. I have a question for you about the rolling tree I got one from Thom*nn to fit on my G&L, but it is too high , rollers don't touch the strings. I'm wandering whether reducing its height by 2mm or moving it towards the nut ( but I don't like drilling a new hole in the head for the screw), what do you think ? Thanks for consideration. By the way, after a week of playing it, it is a dream guitar ( compares in quality and feeling to my Fender Custom Shop strat and my Tokai Les Paul LS1000, and far better sounding and feeling than the Fender Tele US Deluxe I used to have )
I got one of these...😊 if you can you should try get your hands on an old asat. 10+ years My bluesboy is new and I have a asat classic and the old one has a magic to it. Can’t explain.
Gorgeous playing. I have this same guitar in Honeyburst, but I sound nothing close to you! Thanks for spreading beauty, and sharing your thoughts. Could you share the tab for that fundamental riff? It's a stunner.
There's another well made guitar by G&L which, unfortunately, the made the color of traffic cones. It sounded good, particularly on the cleaner settings you used. Did I detect a hint of fuzz on the distorted tones?
I just traded for the G&L ASAT Tribute Tele (no F hole). Previous owner replaced pickups with GFS Fat Pat in the neck and MFD single coil on the bridge. I can't wait to crank it full blast at band practice. My hope is the GFS (High Output) is suited better for precise palm muting on low end chords, without all the muddyness. If not, what neck pickup would you suggest, or fo you think the GFS should do that?
So I liked your video so much that I bought one of these guitars. Then I noticed that the strings go through the body and then curve around the bridge saddle springs then over the saddles . It seems like a bad design . What are your impressions ?
