Those G & L tones really enhance your style of playing. So fat and full of soul. Jonathan your a real soulful player. This tele is Leo’s finest hour, a telecaster taken to the next level.
A Satisfaction Guarantee comes with this channel. So tasteful, smooth presentations every time. Typed in ASAT Classic and almost bought one of these Tributes, used, because they’re a few hundred bucks... did more research and these are all tone monsters, with these legendary pickups. A little more research and heard their Alnico twang, was convinced this is the Tele I’ve always wanted. Just wasn’t getting that from the Thinline Deluxe. Again, a fraction of the price... of Friedman, Macmull, and Fender Custom. All the tone.
Yes..even though they are Indonesian made, I guess the G&L QC made sure that the guitars were made to the highest standard. This guitar was really well made.🤓✌️
Jonathan, Thank goodness for your reviews. It is so nice to listen to someone who has taken the time to get to know the instrument and then demos it in the best fashion possible. I own 3 G&L guitars and your reviews helped me decide on each purchase. I couldn't be happier with them and I thank you for the thorough research and beautiful playing that you present on your channel.
Please note that at 10:39 - 12:05. & 13:09 It should be Bridge pickup instead of Neck Pickup :) Sorry for that! My thanks to Inigo Zapata for the heads up! :)
I was looking at reviews of this humbucker on the neck G&L asat Bluesboy and was blown away by how closely it resembles the tones I get from my humble homebuilt teak wood Tele. Awesome review, 👍
Less than 5 minutes in and I’ve already clicked “subscribe.” I have the ASAT Classic Tribute tele and it is my favorite guitar. Been wanting a thin line style and you’ve sold me on the Bluesboy. Love your style and looking forward to more of your content. Thanks!
Hello again my friend. Exceptional tone and touch as always. You are such an inspiration. Thank you so so much for taking the time to share. At 64 I’ve learned a lot from your channel. Your a treasure and a breath of fresh air.
Wow, you are an excellent player! Hard to really judge how much is coming from the guitar now... Love how you played the swells. Such dynamic and deliberate playing--you don't see that often with guitar reviews like this. Great work.
I could listen to you play for hours and hours. If you have a CD I would love to have it. If you don't, you should record one. Very very relaxing. Thank you for this review and your talent!
Just ordered a demo version of this guitar and saved $60. Your talking about the MFD pickups made me research them and what I learned made me select this model guitar. Mine weighs 6 lbs. which should be good for my injured back and neck. I play every day and I need to lessen the back pain. It took me a while but after purchasing many different types of guitars I finally worked it out for myself that I liked the Telecaster the best. Small body, simple design, robust build and tone that I like. Good balance with no neck dive is also a consideration as well as light weight. Thanks for a good video. Oh and I did inform my wife out of respect for her that I was thinking of purchasing another guitar. Now that I have made the purchase I have also talked with her about that, she is ok with my reasons. - Peter age 70
@@JonIsJustTooLoud You are a soft spirit and I know that if you talk to your wife about your reasons for purchasing more gear she will listen. She may have objections which you need to hear, but I am sure her love for you will allow her to trust your reasons for another guitar. She will appreciate it that you talked to her about a purchase before you went ahead and made the purchase without her even knowing about it. She will see you respect her and that strengthens your marriage.
Excellent demo - guitar played with feel rather than speed just for the sake of it , very impressed with the guitar , and will watch for future reviews.
I really enjoyed watching this video Jonathan. I have just ordered a similar G&L ASAT Bluesboy and I am now really looking forward to receiving it. I won’t be playing it quite as good as you my friend 😅. What fantastic playing. You have such a talent. Thank you for a great video 👍🏻
Great review! I agree that there is nothing like holding the guitar in your hands before you buy it. Here in Seattle, USA, there are still a few shops. I just bought this exact guitar in orange/clear. I just picked it up and didn't put it down! I actually have two other G and L tributes, and all of them are excellent build quality. I really don't often even look at the made in USA models; models like this are so good. G and L must have good quality control. Great review, thanks!
I know this an old post and I don't know if you still read the comments, but I just had to share my experience with G&L guitars.I recently bought a G&L tribute asat classic bluesboy solid body and I couldn't be happier! My experience with this guitar has been very similar to yours. At first,I thought the neck pick-up was a bit muddy, but after playing awhile I found that it is just different, but in a good way.I have grown to really like this pick-up.The middle position works well,I rarely use this combo on my other guitars, but like it on this one.Bridge pick-up is way snappy and bright, took a bit of getting used to it,but I haven't changed anything on this guitar, and I bought it with the plan of putting Duncans in it.I got this guitar at a ridiculously low price,it was a Demo from Sweetwater and they knocked off $60 because of a barely noticeable scratch on the control plate.Out of the box,a great playing guitar, built rock solid,G&L will be the choice for me from here on for Leo Fender designs.
That is a great review ………… If I were G&L I would certainly think about getting you involved in doing video demo's on their range, they have some fantastic guitars, and you certainly made that ASAT Tribute sound wonderful
Very tasty playing. Thanks for the review! With the added warmth of this bridge pickup, it's a good thing you made that correction because I wouldn't know! Great demo.
Thanks Jonathan for a very informative review. I bounced back and forth between the model you purchased (hope the wife was ok about it eventually!), and the ‘blonde’ version with the Rosewood fretboard and a very yellow-looking neck. Your review helped me to decide - I’ve gone for the Maple version and will change the pick guard to black. Then comes the important bit - learning to play even a fraction as well as you. Superb stuff.
Awesome review, detailed and with beautiful playing that really lets you see what the guitar is capable of. I hit the like, subscribe and notify buttons without hesitation!
Really enjoyed your playing, truly amazing cover of tuesday's gone. I was going to get a fender tele but i'm totally sold on the G&Ls now. Keep rocking!
They are great guitars Made in Indonesia, they make good guitars Obviously not the resell of USA made but two to one and still very respectable Excellent quality
That demo was just fantastic Jonathan! You have such ability to communicate with a guitar. Thank you for sharing! Love G&L guitars. So wish I’d bought one when they first came out. I remember the first runs were literally half the price of Fender because they needed to build a base reputation.
Most people who review don't take the time to work with the guitar prior to the review. I used to own one of these (wish I hadn't sold it) and the middle position is really amazing sounding. Through a cranked amp it really gives you that "Spoonful" tone.
Bought a used one on Reverb in large part due to this video. Pros: Gorgeous guitar, fit and finish above average, saddles, neck. Bridge pickup has some gnarly bite which I love. Cons: In dire need of a fret job. Ten of the frets need leveling and then crowning. Granted this is a used guitar but the frets shouldn't be that off. Not sure: The electronics and the neck pickup. The neck pup sounds awesome and suited to your style. It's a little dark/muddy for me. Verdict: Would buy again. Wouldn't recommend the used one I bought to someone without setup and soldering skills but the plusses far outweigh the minuses.
Loved this video Jon. Yup! I get it. I walked into a music store in minneapolis minnesota in 1991 and bought a leo fender signature G/L Skyhawk with mfd pick ups. Played it in bands 30 years as a main axe. I genuinely bonded with that guitar.
Jonathan i am so greatful for your info. You are very likeable here in the U.S. Your skills are note worthy. Learned alot from you. Thanks for your sincerity all these great presentations. You are awesome. G-dbless your journey.
I've noticed that in two pickup configurations where the neck has a humbucker and the bridge has a single coil that the middle position sounds like two different guitars playing in unison. Well, at least to my ears it does. This guitar seems to do that really well. I can see why you feel like the guitar speaks to you and you had to buy it.
Very very nice playing! Beautiful and great sounding guitar! You can definitely make that guitar sing! I have been wanting one of these and now I am really hooked! Great review!
I was googling this guitar and look where it brought me :D Nice sounding indeed and so true about music shops still being needed as Im starting to me sick and tired of returning guitars with defects bought online! I really just want to go into the shop and try it and buy it if I bond with it!
What a great sounding guitar!!! Sure, I figure that balancing the sound of the humbucker on neck position and the bridge can take some little adjustment, but the output and clarity of the sound are amazing... good purchase bro', and great review.
I recently picked one up used, and had a similar experience to you--it's just a great guitar, there's no difference between the playability or quality between my American PRS or Sadowsky or Fodera. I prefer it 100% over any Fender Tele under $2,000 that I've tried at a music store lately.
Excellent review! It's a beauty Jonathan, good luck with it. A semi hollow Tele is on my list. I had a Squier Classic Vibe Thinline once. It had an incredible tone. I can honestly say, for sound, it competed with my 66 Jazzmaster. However the neck was too thin and narrow, so I let it go. I tried the Fender 72 Thinline, didn't like the neck. The Squier version of the 72 , I felt had a better neck for me. This G&L looks like a sweetheart, wonderful tone. I'd love to check one out, then again if my wife sees another guitar come through the door it'll be WWIII. Anyway, thanks for the great review.
Lovely demo and great playing . I was looking for a budget Tele recently -Squier CV Fender Player and the last one was a G and L ASAT Tribute and it was my favourite. Felt great , big frets, awesome pickups . This Bluesboy sounds great too but unfortunately most stores are closed just now and I don’t think the place I was in had a Bluesboy . Thanks for the video 🏴
Your playing is just exquisite, and you really piqued my interest in purchasing one of these. I have a ASAT Classic Tele solid body, and it's become my go to guitar whenever I play electric. I play it 90% of the time vs. my CV Squire Tele and my Epi Les Paul. Since the pickups are so different, did you find yourself thinking that a separate tone and volume knob for each pickup would have been an improvement? On a personal note: I wanted say how much I enjoyed visiting Singapore 3 years ago. The people were very, very nice to my wife and me. The city was immaculately clean, the subway, with marble floors was the best I've ever used. The airport was the most beautiful I've visited in the world, and I have wonderful memories of my day spent at Marina Bay Gardens topped off with a Spectacular light show under the "Super Trees!" You are now among the other good thoughts I have about your country.
This G&L has become the only guitar I play, because it's both electric and acoustic. I play it during the night acoustically in my bed and electrically through amps in the day time hours. Has anyone ever hoped for "The One Guitar"? Well after many purchases ands many years I have found mine. My favorite feature along with i's good acoustic tone is that it weigh's less than 6 lbs. and that makes it so comfortable as does is small body size and it's perfect shape.
Hi, Jonathan, I’ve been watching and commenting your video for some time now! I recently got into a student band as a rhythm guitar player. I really want a guitar that gives the bright twangy tone to give a good bite to the rhythm. But sometimes I want to play some r&b, soul stuff. So this bluesboy is becoming my dream model!
GREAT video, thanks. I have one of these as well and it's fantastic! I replaced the nut and the frets really needed to be polished but once they were... a steal of a guitar.
Beautiful guitar Jonathan, I enjoyed every peace of music that you play with it. Thank you for your work In this Chanel, and you are a very lucky man trying and playing so many guitar styles. I hope that your wife continue supporting you in that regard. Be safe and watch out that big guitars wall behind you, could end smashing you.
I commented about your great playing and that very nice sounding guitar a couple of weeks ago. I have been thinking about buying a G&L for a while, and today I had one like this one ordered (not in stock at my nearby store). I hope to get it NLT this next weekend, and I am definitely looking forward to it!
Those seems like not only a really good bang for buck guitar..... But an incredibly versatile take on a tele..... And that bridge pickup is tunable with the poles..... Very tempting proposition... Because I love teles.... But the twang can go too far.... And I love hollow/semi hollow tones.... With a humbucker on the neck position. American G&L pickups..... Seems like a really good package. Like somewhere smack in the middle of a modern interpretation of a Fender tele with a Gibson 335. I want one.
Fantastic demo and review Jonathan, thank you. If you have a moment, could you highlight the main differences between this semi-hollow and the solid body ASAT classic? I'm currently between the two but leaning towards the solid body. I have a Legacy Fullerton and it's an unbelievable instrument but I want to try a Tribute ASAT
Hi Tim.. main difference is kinda obvious. The pickup configurations, F hole.. if you’re looking for a “warmer” Tele, get this.. but for a more traditional tele sound, get the ASAT classic✌️😜
It’s not fair! You make all the guitars sound special playing the leads. I just watched the ASAT Fullerton video now I don’t know which one I want. The main problem is I don’t play lead!😢
Hard to figure it out. I own the G&L Fullerton Blues boy and a tribute blues boy . I recently picked a Harley Benton TE20-HH. Price difference is drastic and as much as I love my Fullerton Bluesboy, it mostly hangs on the wall. The Harley Benton has become my daily player. And if I go out to gig I sometime take an expensive guitar but find Im missing the Harley Benton or my Godin.
I got a shot of getting this guitar 2ehand for a good price. The owner is going for the made in Usa model. I don't know if there is a big difference in quality. But when it comes to sound it has to sound the same i guess as the pickups are the same Usa made ones. I am gonna get it today....even if my wife is gonna kill me too. Wish me luck 😇
I enjoy all your videos and especially like the sections where you play without the backing track to demo the different pick ups. You are very talented. Could you tell us a little more about the physical quality of the guitars such as - neck size, fret finish, smooth controls, good feel of switch and jack. That would help me decide to buy or not. During the pandemic, I am hesitant to try to find a local store to try these out.
Thank you! I hope you have subscribed..and if you have, welcome to the channel!! Ok...i will try to state those details ,,,but normally i wont highlights those if they are not problematic..
I don't know you, but your awesome. Your playing is such an interesting combination of traditional American country style, and asian influences. Just a a little on the asian front, but I think I hear it, which is cool. Your a gifted player, and would love to jam with you. Always a pleasure to hear you.
Sometimes I skip the demos (specially the “biri biri” ones) to go for the opinions. Your demos are longer but can’t be skipped, “just put headphones shut up and listen!” :,) I’ll be testing this guitar on the weekend :,). Greetings from Perú!
Came for the review. Stayed for your soloing. Good stuff, great feel, man. I need a lighter tele than my American built solid. Getting older and my back aches after a couple hours on stage, G&L AST Classic Tele might be the solution. Thanks for the guidance.
I'm 95% certain that the Tribute pickups have been produced by the Cort(?) factory in Indonesia for 3-4 years now. (Of course, to G&L specs...) I used to have one of these, sorry I sold. Great playing and review.
I don't care what guitar you're playing, I just love your playing. You gotta a whole lotta soul. Keep it up! 😊
Thank you kindly Bill! :)
Agreed, Jonathan has incredible chops.
This is the ONLY UA-cam review of this model worth watching!
Thank you very much.
Glad you enjoyed it!✌❤

I totally agree.. one of the best that Leo designed✌️❤️

Thank you David.. glad it was helpful✌️❤️
Sounds amazing with great playing as usual!
Thank you ✌🤓
Your playing is just exquisite, and you really piqued my interest in purchasing one of these.
Thank you brother! And I had great times in Tucson..Thank you for sharing!✌♥
This G&L has become the only guitar I play, because it's both electric and acoustic. I play it during the night acoustically in my bed and electrically through amps in the day time hours.
Has anyone ever hoped for "The One Guitar"? Well after many purchases ands many years I have found mine. My favorite feature along with i's good acoustic tone is that it weigh's less than 6 lbs. and that makes it so comfortable as does is small body size and it's perfect shape.
cool! Thanks for sharing!✌💙
Go for it!✌💚
Brother, thanx for all good input you give us.
I like your style! Keep up the good work!
youre welcome brother! I enjoy doing this :)
Nice and soulful playing
Thank you ✌️❤️
You play with beautiful emotion and soul bravo
Thank you✌️❤️
GREAT video, thanks. I have one of these as well and it's fantastic! I replaced the nut and the frets really needed to be polished but once they were... a steal of a guitar.
Nice ✌️❤️
I always enjoy your playing I am sure you can make any guitar sound great.
Thank you ✌️❤️
Nice review. Thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these. Some fine playing as well. 🤟😎🤘
Thank you✌️❤️
Proof that the sound is in the hands - and you my brother have great ones. 🖖🏼
Thank you✌️❤️
You have the 1Mio$ Fingers. I love your playing. Look your reviews to hear your playing.
Bluesbarde thanks!! ✌️❤️
Thank you✌️🤓
I commented about your great playing and that very nice sounding guitar a couple of weeks ago. I have been thinking about buying a G&L for a while, and today I had one like this one ordered (not in stock at my nearby store). I hope to get it NLT this next weekend, and I am definitely looking forward to it!
I'm excited for you! ✌♥
I want one.
Yes “It’s A Great guitar ✌️❤️
You are one the most melodic soloist on UA-cam. Nice guitar also.
Thank you brother! :)
wonderful soulful review! love your playing.
Thank you kindly!✌🤓
Fantastic demo and review Jonathan, thank you. If you have a moment, could you highlight the main differences between this semi-hollow and the solid body ASAT classic? I'm currently between the two but leaning towards the solid body. I have a Legacy Fullerton and it's an unbelievable instrument but I want to try a Tribute ASAT
Hi Tim.. main difference is kinda obvious. The pickup configurations, F hole.. if you’re looking for a “warmer” Tele, get this.. but for a more traditional tele sound, get the ASAT classic✌️😜
Johnathan your videos are great.i saw this and went out and got a left handed version minus the f-holes.
Cool ✌️❤️
It’s not fair! You make all the guitars sound special playing the leads. I just watched the ASAT Fullerton video now I don’t know which one I want. The main problem is I don’t play lead!😢
These guitar are just as good fro rhythm playing too! ✌♥
Thanks for sharing
New sub here but THANK you for your work!!! Excellent reviews and demos every time!
Thank you...glad you are enjoying the channel✌️🤓
I got a shot of getting this guitar 2ehand for a good price. The owner is going for the made in Usa model. I don't know if there is a big difference in quality. But when it comes to sound it has to sound the same i guess as the pickups are the same Usa made ones. I am gonna get it today....even if my wife is gonna kill me too. Wish me luck 😇
Lol.. a full armor kit up should help!! 😜
Damn Jonathan. That's all I can about your talent. Damn.
Nice playing!!
Thanks a lot!
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Thanks for the response.
I don't know you, but your awesome. Your playing is such an interesting combination of traditional American country style, and asian influences. Just a a little on the asian front, but I think I hear it, which is cool. Your a gifted player, and would love to jam with you. Always a pleasure to hear you.
Thank you so much! Hope you've subbed✌💚
Beautiful guitar. I love this thing. Looking on Reverb now! Thanks for sharing.
You are most welcome Mark 🤓✌️
@@JonIsJustTooLoud Noticed that you are now above 4k in subs! Congrats !
Thank you Mark!!!!🤓✌️ Thanks for your friendship and encouragement 😄
Such a nice guitar and such nice playing as usual. Thanks.
Thank you! I’m going up to Vancouver soon! ✌️🤓
3:44 song - I was jamming to "Lights" and it's solo ;). Best Regards and Best Wishes!
Thank you✌️❤️
Jonathan, you are a very cool guy. I like the way you play.
Thank you Daniel✌💙
Sometimes I skip the demos (specially the “biri biri” ones) to go for the opinions. Your demos are longer but can’t be skipped, “just put headphones shut up and listen!” :,) I’ll be testing this guitar on the weekend :,). Greetings from Perú!
Thank you! ✌❤
Came for the review. Stayed for your soloing. Good stuff, great feel, man. I need a lighter tele than my American built solid. Getting older and my back aches after a couple hours on stage, G&L AST Classic Tele might be the solution. Thanks for the guidance.
This is the one for you then✌️❤️
I'm 95% certain that the Tribute pickups have been produced by the Cort(?) factory in Indonesia for 3-4 years now. (Of course, to G&L specs...) I used to have one of these, sorry I sold. Great playing and review.
Thanks Mike.. I'm told that there pickups are from the states. ✌️🤓
Tribute pickups are US-made and mighty fine.
You know your guitars mr. Inspiring for sure.
Thank you ✌♥
