I just picked up one of these from Craigslist tonight. Guy did not know how to set it up and sold it- got it home, set it up, new strings, and it's phenomenal. The only thing I don't like about it is I think the neck tint is a bit too yellow- makes it look a bit strange. Killer guitar for the money- very well built, sounds and plays fantastic. SUPER heavy though- I have a 1969 Les Paul with pancake body that I thought was really heavy, but the G&L actually weighs more! Seems like it could be close to 10 lbs. It's also by far the loudest guitar I have- the MDFs have more output than my PRS or my Languedoc copy with Seymour 59's. Chunkier neck than I was expecting, more than I usually like but I'm already used to it. Oh- one other thing I don't care for is that I can't lower the neck pickup- it's mounted to the body. Strange design choice there, as you also can't lower the pole pieces beyond flush- you can only raise them. But you CAN lower the bridge pickup- not sure why they would make that decision. I like the sound of low pickups. but the MDFs are very articulate and sound great.

Jon, I've been watching your videos for years now and I don't think I've ever mentioned how your videos influence the guitars I choose.
I bought this exact guitar and now it is my absolute favorite. It's so much more versatile than my Telecaster and the ease with which it plays is like magic in my hands. It plays so many styles; Country, Rock, Jazz and even a decent Bossa Nova.
I agree they are a bit heavy, but you can get the lighter basswood model with a solid color finish, but I just love the Butterscotch Blonde and the tone with the Swamp Ash body. So I will carry that weight!
If I had to sell all of my stuff and only keep the necessities, it would be this guitar and my acoustic.
Thank you once again for a great video and your inspired playing.

I have a Fender Modern Player Plus in HSS config and sadly not liking the pickup selection. I'm afraid that it may stay in the case more often once the Tribute shows up. Thanks for this informative review and brilliant playing to highlight the tonal range of this guitar! I was considering buying, but I found it difficult to find a good video review, which I've come to rely on for buying decisions. Then I found your video review. Your video is wonderful - and I ordered one of these today from Sweet Water. I noticed G&L has an online parts store, and they sell traditional Telecaster pickups as well, ASAT Classic Alnico. I suppose that may be an option for purest Telecaster players. I'm looking for a traditional tone, but I'm thinking the MFD's should do that fine at lower volumes. I hope your back is feeling better. I love the G&L guitars. They are wonderfully “crafted” as manufacturers love to say. That said... they fall some short on the twang/chime. The next generation of Fenders? Yea ok I won’t argue that it the next version of the modern Tele and Strat but I have come to terms I am not ready for a new thing totally........I love the twang and chime of the Fender Tele and Strat. That’s not to say I don’t want a G&L! It’s just different. I’m too old to change and it makes me stubborn and also makes my back hurt. Half of that last sentence may ring true for you. I won’t say which half! Getting old sure beats the alternative brother!! Class act vid as usual!

The pickups are Leo’s MFD pickups, which are ceramic and have a bit more output than traditional Tele pickups. So a stock ASAT won’t have quite the vintage twang of a Tele with alnico 5 or 2 pickups.

Nice Demo and Review Jon! I love the Guitar and the way you make it sound!! I noticed you’re really getting into G&L’s. They truly are nice but here in the States their resale value is REALLY LOW! Don’t know why as their build quality and sound are Great. My guess is here there’s something about the name Fender that won’t go away! LOL! I’m guessing people here would just rather have their guitar say Fender instead of G&L cause I can hardly tell the difference in build. Guess it’s just the way it is. G&L should send you a free guitar, you always play them so well. Or maybe shares in the company. Or maybe a signature model. Lol. Keep smiling Jonathon.

Hi, Jonathan! I just bought this guitar last week thanks to this video, I LOVE IT! Could you please provide me any recommendation on how to set the eq to obtain a similar tone to the clean sound you get starting at 1:30? I would really appreciate it :)

Hey Jonathan, I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to and you might have done the comparison. I have had a USA Tele in the past which had nice warm Jazz tones. In your experiance, between the MIM Fender Player Tele and the G&L Tribute ASAT, (with the classic pickups, not Fullerton), does either come close to that USA Tele Jazz tone. Thanks, BTW, your melody on the tune in this video is beautifully arranged and played. Thanks for your work here and God Bless!

It all boils down to the pickups.. I know of one G&L tele that can come close and that is the G&L bluesboy✌️❤️

I Own this guitar, made in Korea from 2004. Sounds better than MIM Tele. Very hot but still dynamic.

Says tribute is that not an american-made is that something else I'm not too sure I have one of those but mine is a regular California built one that I bought about 10 years ago.
Great play and I love that smooth jazz vibe that you had going there some great great sound and stuff

A bit off topic, but Jonathan, do you prefer the G&G guitar cases? They seem to have the rounded edges, where as the off brand ones have squared off edges. I'll be 69 just after Christmas, and have had 5 strokes, so my mobility is mostly impaired, and weight IS a factor! Thank you for helping me make up my mind about this guitar!

Jonathan a few questions. I couldn't what you said the nut was made out of. is it bone, tusq, or synthetic bone? Also, is a synthetic bone the same as plastic? Do you feel this guitar plays well enough for you to do a professional show with it or recordings? Would you upgrade anything on it or leave it as is? This guitar looks awesome for the price. I plan to get one just need to no more about. Some info I cannot find on it. Your playing is awesome. Thanks for your time. God Bless! And Praise the Lord!!

Its a synthetic material like tsuq...I will not upgrade anything except the stringtree. Please check or email G&Lfor for more details✌♥

Hi fellow brother! I am also a worship guitarist...looking for a great guitar that can do live and I do love G&L....a quick question. Are the MFD pickups okay to do a warm jazzy clean tone on the neck (for home jazz fingerstyle playing). Live the MFD will work great, just don't want anything too 'edgy' but something that I can also 'tame' a little to get a warm clean....
