    I love your tutorial. I've never made a quilt before but after watching you make a rag quilt from your dads clothes i was inspired. My dad recently passed away, I just finished the quilt from his clothing. My squares are not at clean as yours and i made many mistakes, but learned a lot during this project. After the new year i plan to start making rag quilts for my children and grandchildren. Thank you for sharing your talent and passion.

    I love, love this tutorial, you explained everything. You had mentioned doing something and out loud I asked why, you explained it. In other tutorials many steps were omitted or run through quickly. I actually wanted to see a rag quilt made with some thing other than fleece on top and this was it. Thank you!

    Subscribed, awesome!
    edit: I should have watched til the end to write the comment, but just wanted to let you know I'm not one to outright subscribe just one minute into a video!!!
    This video was detailed information, but presented in a way that was SIMPLE to understand, and to the point. No steps were left out, perfect for anyone who has never made a quilt.
    I've been sewing since I was 16, but have never made a quilt, but it's on my bucket list! I have lots of scrap fabric I need to clean up. I've also lost weight over the years and am making decisions on altering my clothes vs selling them vs repurposing them, so this is a great option!
    I know NOTHING about "batting" and didn't know you could use flannel... I've got a flannel flat sheet in almost new condition that doesn't match any of my linens!
    I own a walking foot that came with my new sewing machine, but I don't even know what a walking foot is... I'll have to look that up, unless you have a video about those or a tutorial.
    Anyway, thanks again for this incredible video, and your easy going and chill vibe!
    Fawn

    I'm new to this and my grandmother just passed away so I am making a quilt with her clothes for my dad and his siblings. I just have a question regarding the front blocks, I was going to get 3 yards of flannel for it like you mentioned, I think I missed something in the tutorial. I wasn't sure how you got the fraying strips on the front of the quilt. Is there a way to make it just outlined blocks without the frills ?

    • @captainobvious4051
      @captainobvious4051 2 роки тому

      If I am understanding your question correctly, You just don't leave that extra fleece or flannel and make it all flush sew the blocks together like you would a patchwork pillow. Without the frey, you will see where things don't line up just right, so this way is Definitely more forgiving.
      To get the frey it's similar to the no sew blankets where you cut strips & tie them together. But with this, you sew your line while leaving ½"-1" material free so you can cut strips down to the line you sewed & then instead of tying/knotting the strips together, you leave them so when you wash the quilt it looks like the end of the video when he's holding his finished product.
      idk if I explained that right, but it's basically attaching the squares 2 at a time, then row by row & instead of turning it inside out so you don't see the "leftover" material you leave it as is & cut Tony strips so material freys when washed yo get this effect. Otherwise, if you don't want the frey, I would do the sew inside out method & dew squares with material facing each other so when you open the squares with the pattern facing you, the "extra" material is on the inside.

    Do you mix different fabric types in one quilt, such as- mixing t shirt, flannel, denim and sweatshirt all on the cover of one quilt? Just wondering if knits and weaves can work together in one quilt top.

    do you always suggest flannel as the batting? Is there other forms of batting you might use ??

    • @sherrybuskirk6312
      @sherrybuskirk6312 4 роки тому +1

      Hi. Flannel rags..batting does not so If you use regular batting you would need to cut each of the squares 1 inch less before sewing the 1 inch seam.
