This song is about how our society is attracted to violence. People like watching tragedy "from a distance" as long as it doesn't affect or involve themselves. Boxing, NASCAR, even football. People watch for the violence. "Vicariously I live while the whole world dies..much better you than I". Thanks for reacting to my request!
Kinda true tho, I saw video on Facebook about bad accident and watch it til the end while other video about baby playing around and dancing skip after 4s
You’re right on point Dan. I’m a retired firefighter of nearly 30yrs, I’ve seen enough trauma, pain and death for hundreds of lifetimes. I don’t understand humanity’s obsession with violence/death either. This song for me personally, is like Maynard is speaking to me. I’ve been a fan since I saw them on their first tour in the early 90’s. I was 17/18, I’m now 48.
"...Credulous at best, your desire to believe in Angels in the hearts of men Pull your head on out your hippy haze and give a listen Shouldn't have to say it all again The universe is hostile, so impersonal Devour to survive, so it is, so it's always been..." Brutally honest and dark
YES!!! I've been saying that since I heard this song! MJK has written some brilliant shit in his life...this verse is right up there with his best. "Vicarious" starts out like it's going to be a wise ass, goofy song...then, MJK hits you with brutal honesty when he practicalizes it. "Credulous at best, your desire to believe in angels in the hearts of men...." brilliant!
Impeccable instrumentation no beat machines , mind blowing time changes , lyrics still hit home, and sounds the same live aside from some of the vocals& it was written over a decade ago….
It's 5:30 in the moring. I'm doing my typical stuff to get my day ready. When the song starts on my computer speakers, I turn it up. My cat jumps off the couch across the room. Jumps on my desk and stands there sniffing and pawing the speakers. When the song paused, he sat down. Start up, back at it again... Even he is like, "give me more of this." LOL I subscribed a while ago and hardly ever comment on anything. A silent follower. Just know I see you. Always looking forward to your next post. I've, well we, lol have never heard this before. Gonna have to look them up. May I make a request? Five Finger Death Punch - Never Enough. Or total opposite of the spectrum, Tim McGraw - Don't Take The Girl (Official Music Video).
@@dawnray8550 I've been listening to it for many years. Everytime, not going to lie. Something about it just hits me in the heart. The video, the lyrics, the story. I cry every time.
@@dawnray8550 my condolences. Kind of hits me in the same but different way. (I'm not going to go there.) If that make sense. Hopefully he sees this and does a reaction. In my opinion, many need to hear and see.
The songs is pretty much about how in every human being there's a need to witness or experienced some sort of violence without being a part of it. Maynard always believed that violent movies violent video games things like that were a good thing cuz it allowed you to Express that.
I've always pictured this song as (mostly) being narrated by The Joker to a captured Robin while Batman fights his way to their location...although there is a portion where I feel it could be Batman narrating. This part in particular I can hear Mark Hamill's "Joker" voice saying this but I picture Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in how it's delivered: "I need to watch things die...From a good safe distance. Vicariously, I live while the whole world dies. You all feel the same, so Why can't we just admit it?" Also he says, "Neither the Brave nor Bold are writers of stories told." What he means is that brave and bold people generally DIE being brave and bold so others have to tell their stories, but Batman was part of a comic book series (and also much later an animated series) called The Brave and the Bold where Batman would team up with other heroes, so my Joker/Batman concept has some merit within the lyrics themselves, lol!
My wife watches that show "real house wives of any city", I made one small joke and now my sex life is fucked up. When I come home from work and if that show is on, I know im going solo that night. One little joke.....
Pretty much you watch disasters on the news and watch tv shows and movies and as long as your not the one dying it seems to be accepted. It is crazy if you think about it. Much better you than I at the end. We all meet our maker so doesn't really matter. Why i don't do anything that has more chances to kill me. Why I moved out of Cali too many ways to die.
If I may suggest; skip the lyrics on the first listen. Feel the music instead, and follow the words as best you can. I watched your 46 & 2 video and the video you watched was jammed with information and things that people did not have direct access to when the album came out (lyrics are never printed in the album sheet), and I saw you focusing on the words and the video and not the song. And mystery is good, too. That said, the lyrics are generally great and thought provoking...but only a part of the songs and the experience.
The two beings emerging from the eyes are the masc/fem aspects of each of our souls. The flea represents the parasitic way our sins feed off of our negative emotions, and grow into the monsters we see at the end. The ending represents killing our egos, as “pride goes before the fall,” which allows us to be reborn (the fetus in the figure’s head) - we just have to have a spiritual experience and meet the God of our Understanding or Higher Power or Allah. Also- DMT /mushrooms/ psychedelics heavily inspired this ❤️

"Why don't we just admit it?"
It's why everyone slows to a crawl when driving by a car accident.
interesting interpretation (m/v doesn't seem to correlate much tho)

Loved your reaction..we all had similar reactions when we first heard them to
This has been my favorite band for almost 30 years, I've never heard another band like this one!!
We love watching tragedy from a distance
It's been a minute. More TOOL!
Tool has a very distinct style and sound they are probably the best band in my opinion
I’m sure I’m not the only one but I know all the lyrics to every TOOL song! Every single last one.
Yes, start from the beginning
Tool is an entire vibe. If you like Maynard, also give A Perfect Circle a try.
I have not listen to "Tool" in many years. Now you got me wanting to call off work and just hit up listening to music all day. Stupid adult life. lmao
I'm right there with you. I lose myself in music. If I could today...I'd put on my vinyl and never leave the house!!
"...Credulous at best, your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men

Tool tells some of the best "stories" ever
Thought provoking lyrics, and masterful music, one of my favorite bands of all time
It’s great to here jambi on queue after this

Aww Don't take the girl is probably one of few country songs I love.

Same. It was one of my Aunt's favorite songs and she passed. I think that's why it hits me so hard.

❤❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Do more tool plz. Thx
Depending on your mood it could be Perfect Circle or Tool.. I mean it's all about how you want to vibe.
It’s a about hypocrisy with ourselves. We criticize others for being morally just while we love to see blood shed from others metaphorically
Great and short explanation.
Perhaps the darkest song by Tool, and that is saying something, considering Undertow
Sober
It’s a gift the that never stops giving.
lol funny bro :D :) this song is so good man
