    In February LA jacked up the price of their shafts from $105 to $149 apparently for P&L reasons and not for supply chain cost increases. Makes for very pricey clubs when you add in the cost of puring etc. Puring costs about $55 per shaft. The 301 clubs cost $650 with stock KBS shafts, or $80 each. So it looks like this set will run at least $335 per club or about $2,700 for a set of 8.

    I just ordered my first fully fitted set of irons and wedges from Club Champion here in the U.S. and I can't wait to play with them. Learned a lot through the fitting process, and I was AMAZED at how much swing weight affected my ability to feel where the club head is and the resulting strike consistency. I hope to have them in the next 2 weeks! Taylormade HiToe 60 and 54 degree wedges, T100 G-7 iron and T150 6-4 iron.

      @louispounds7486 everything was tuned in! Grip fitting for size, head, shaft, loft and lie angles, length, even the ball I should play to get the most out of my complete setup. I was fit off of 6 iron and everything will be brought in from there for the irons, and the wedges were done individually. They will build the clubs with the shafts pure and the swing weights all matched. I was very impressed with the whole process!

      @zacherywade9141 thank you! I'm playing at 11.8 handicap currently with old stuff I got for free so I'm super excited to see what impact having clubs made for me can do for my scores. Hopefully drop a few shots 😀

      @jraterink5613 the first time I went from super old clubs to fitted clubs I went from a 12 to a 5.5

    What is the total price for this whole process? The purchase of the irons, new shafts and the fitting process? Regular golfers need that info as a compare and contrast to store bought clubs or going to get a set of fitted clubs from the golf store.

      @ Thank you. $1,350.00 or so for 7-8 clubs. So you buy clubs that are about $85 per club and they now balloon to over $270? Just change this from “Pimp my Ride” to “Pimp out my golf clubs”. The core demographics of this brand Tacoma are $85 per club and they still have 7 more clubs to potentially create a full bag. Please go back and finish the full bag and let us know what a full bag costs. Over $4,000? lol Custom golf is expensive.

    Hi James, I see your irons all have the same swingweight: D3. Is the constant swingweight completely your personal choice, or is that what SGGT recommended? I went to another reputable golf fitter this year, and they fitted me for irons with progressive swingweighting. The clubs have regular steps from D2.6 for the 4-iron to D4.4 for the PW. I like the feel.

I would wager a significant amount of money that you could not tell the difference. "Puring" is a newer process that is an extra charge--often a signficant charge--that provides very little useful value. If given the option, decline it every time.

Since their was not much known about the Takomo Obsidian graphite shafts I was leary. But then I just happened to be heading to the Atlanta GA area and was able to set up a fitting with Adam of Elite Fit Golf @EFGMC Adam has done the Takoma builds for the @BryanBrosGolf and @BustaJackGolf among others. Adam was great and it was a tough choice but in the end I reshafted the 101s with AeroTech Sterlfiber i95s. So my take! Takoma clubs are great as is, but if you can a fitter/builder, get fut, get heads only and shaft to your best specs! It might be more than the DTC price for clubs, but still less than the big name brands, PLUS thry are built for you.

    Does anyone in the comments have any idea how much the shaft upgrade would have cost?

    • @louismoore6473
      @louismoore6473 Місяць тому

      La golf lists each shaft at $125. Plus the fitting fees, plus the puring charges, and assembly

      @louismoore6473 so looking at around £1,000 in custom upgrade fees just on the irons?

    Your new irons shouldn’t all be D3, that’s an oversight. Swingweight should progress from long to short. This will affect your timing.

      Do more research buddy. Potentially the wedge could be D4 but in no world would you progress them. Check any major brand

    I could not disagree with you more when you talk about how good black irons look. I think they look horrible. On the other hand tho, copper irons are absolutely gorgeous looking. Especially when it’s already a good looking club in steel.

    James excited, surely not. Whilst this video and story is interesting, the affordable element has gone. Thats not a criticism, one persons affordable is another’s good value. If i were to go this route, i would buy the heads i like from what ever brand, and if you want residual value, a main brand. You would be able to afford it, as if you couldn’t, you wouldn’t be buying pured LA shafts at £200 each fitted. James seems genuinely excited by these and if he’s paying for them, he can clearly afford them. I had an upgrade this year, because post a health issue, required some extra ooomph, so went for P790, and my fitter took me out of graphites into slightly heavier steel shafts KBS 85g MAX, loft and lie checked for me, my distance is back to as it was 20 years ago, and the distance heads still look like golf clubs, important for enjoyment. Lastly, if i need to change again, P790’s hold their price. At the range today, my local pro asked to hit them, he was amazed at the feel. I got my irons fully fitted at a fitting studio similar to SGGT, cost £160 per iron, thats £50 off list price, which no one pays, thats less than the LA shafts, so value isn’t only “direct to consumer”
