Whisky.com reviews the Bunnahabhain 12 Years. The 12-year-old Bunnahabhain with its powerful 46.3% vol. offers enough reserves to dilute with some still water. Bunnahabhain comes from the Gaelic and means 'river mouth', a direct reference to the Margadale River. The bottle is adorned with a sailor. Bunnahabhain was the first distillery the sailors saw when they returned to their home island of Islay!

This bottle is amazing, one of the best 12 yrs. The characters tick almost every box for a wonderful daily sip.

I poured myself a dram of the 12 to sip while watching. Great as always!

I believe he the bell-shaped bottom of this bottle is for the European market, which uses 70 centiliter bottles. I have a US 75cl bottle in front of me right now and it is nearly flat-bottomed.

Having a dream of this whisky while watching Horst today. This one is always in my cabinet. Lovely sweet, fruity, caramel aroma; rich, complex palate with a pronounced briny, coastal sea air tang. I love this.

Easily one of my 2 favorite scotches.
With Oban 14 being the other.
    Fantastic whisky.💪👍🥃

Completely agree. Unfortunately Oban is getting ridiculously expensive where I live ( British Columbia).

      Absolutely.
Bunnahabhain has gone from $55 to over $70 here in NE.
Oban has always been $80-90 here as well.
Hell… the other week I was ecstatic to find Glenmorangie 10 on sale for $35.
      I bought 4 bottles.🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m just not willing to pay those ridiculous prices.🤷‍♂️👍🥃

I wish I could get Oban for that price. Here in BC, Oban 14 is $150 CAD (about $112US). Stupid expensive. Bunna 12 is $105 CAD ( about $78 US)

One of my favorites as well.
Unfortunately it went from $55 to over $70 a bottle here in NE over the last couple of years.
      I still love it.
But I’m refusing to spend that kind of money on it.
Too bad… I used to buy it frequently.👍🥃

Cost of good scotch has definitely gone crazy over the past few years. But what can you buy that's as good, for less? HP12 is cheaper, and good, but doesn't hit the same level. Bruichladich is good but doesn't have the same depth IMO. Old Pulteney? Cost is about the same. What do you do if you want to drink decent whisky?

I recently found Glenmorangie 10 on sale here for $35 a bottle.
      I bought 4 of them.🤣🤣🤣🤣
      Usually it’s around $42-45 here.
Now I’m definitely not saving it’s on par with these other scotches we’re talking about.
But I hadn’t had it in a while and really enjoyed it.
      Best $35 bottles I’ve had recently.👍🥃

@@BillMcGirr $35 for Glenmorangie is a good price for an enjoyable whisky. But there's something about those coastal whiskies like Bunna. I don't like the price, but I pay it.

Bunnahabhain is still one of my favorites.
It’s just become a special occasion bottle instead of regular rotation.
I’d be the worlds brokest drunk living on Bunnahabhain and Oban.🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🥃

This is my favorite scotch. Their 18 is sublime as well, but the price of the 12 and the bang for the buck makes it the best for me. I'm supposed to get out there next fall for a visit and I'm going to do the largest tasting package that boasts getting to taste the very rare 46yr. I really hope that trip doesn't fall through.

I bought this whisky based on the positive reviews and popularity. Unfortunately, i didn't like it. I find it very strong and dry. Added few drops of water as well but it changed the taste. Sadly this is not for me. Not saying its a bad whisky. Maybe 46% whiskies are not for me. Need to go back to 40% whiskies.

The bottle I have might be from a bad cask; On the palate I get a flat umami note with a taste like sulfur or overcooked cabbage. I have come back to the bottle many times and that unpleasant taste is always there.

    • @TheRunningManZ

I’ve ordered one bottle ever and I had to throw most of it away. It was exactly the same as you describe. It’s was almost like it tasted of rusty blood which I know sounds weird. I’ve never thrown whisky away before or since. I put it down to a bad bottle, I’ve had several of the 18 over the years and it’s about my favourite bottle.

This is just one of the bottles I don’t get. It’s like a watered-down seaweed soup with slight salinity, spices and orange peels - a little bit of everything but none is good enough for it to stand out. It is slightly peated, too weak for someone who likes smoke, but still detectable for someone who dislikes smoke. Compared to many highland or speyside it is not cheap at all and offers me little to savor on.

    • @_ArsNova
      @_ArsNova 5 днів тому

I prefer other scotch whiskies myself as well, but I get zero smoke/peat notes from this bottle.

    • @Marcus-cc72
      @Marcus-cc72 5 днів тому

@@_ArsNova I happen to have it at hand and just pulled it out for a test. My personal take is that the smoke is behind the salinity (like the kind of smoke you get from black pepper exploding in an oil pan).
I do get why some spirit forward fans would like this but compare this with a Clynelish or a Ben Nevis I don’t think it’s even remotely close
