  • So I decided to try the As I Am Dry, Itchy Scalp Care Olive & Tea Tree Oil Dandruff Co-Wash on my scalp psoriasis, and ya'll....
I've had my eye on this product for a while. It is the first product I've seen from a reputable natural hair care line that caters to the dry, itchy scalp community, and I finally decided to try it out!
There are other products in this line, but I was only interested in trying the co-wash specifically. The active ingredient in the co-wash is Pyrithione Zinc 1% which aids in the relief of scalp itching, flaking and irritation associated with dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Now, I do not have seborrheic dermatitis, I have scalp psoriasis. Although they are two different skin conditions, the symptoms present themselves in the same way - causing dry, itchy and flaky scalp. So we're going to see if this product can help relieve these symptoms caused by other scalp conditions.

Can you do a wash with your original products that you wash with so we can see what you use please?

I use it on fine, caucasian, naturally curly, senior hair and the results are amazing. My hair has more bounce, more body and mostly my scalp no longer itches. I work out hard and fast at least 4 times a week at the gym and have to wash my hair almost everyday to stop sweat/bacterial buildup on my scalp that causes it to itch and also washing everyday has dried out my scalp and caused my hair to look dry and dull. I only have to use this in small increments in between shampooing and then rinse so I no longer have to shampoo every day.

Thank you for the review, I’m in braids and my scalp is so irritated 😭
The cowash may have been too strong for your scalp boo. Tea tree is great but it may have been too harsh!

      Possibly..But I loveeeee tea tree😢. *sigh*

Me too boo, I know it’s good for my scalp but I need something to buffer the “harshness” of the oil.

Do you think it could have been the pyrithione zinc in the cowash?…cause I use other products that have tea tree in it and my scalp has never reacted

My Family Fixed This - Naturally:
    1. Wash your hair with Sulfur 8 shampoo, using a silicone scalp massager.
    2. Let it dry naturally. Be sure to blot the excess water with a brand new towel or one that you have never used on your hair / body before.
    3. That night, SMOTHER your entire head with Vaseline - wrap it in a scarf and sleep that way. Why? The easiest, most 'natural' way to kill the yeast / candida and anything else that is living on your scalp which is what is probably happening - in a matter of minutes - is to simply smother it - NO OXYGEN means no ability to breathe, thrive, grow or survive.
    4. The next morning, mix bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil (whatever ration you want...it really does not matter) into a bowl (do not use a metal spoon when mixing clay - use plastic or wood only). SMOTHER your scalp with the clay, let it dry then just sit under the shower and let it rinse off until the water runs clear. You may need to do this a few times to get all of the Vaseline off of your scalp and hair - but you'll see that you've just 'killed' the yeast when not one hair follicle itches.
Repeat weekly, or as often as you need to and be sure to hot wash with white vinegar and baking soda all of the bedding, towels, clothing and anything else that it may be living on. (fyi never mix bleach and vinegar).
We tried this - and it literally solved the problem overnight. If there is a new issue we just repeat the process.
Good luck everyone, and God Bless!

As I Am made my scalp itch and I don't even has psoriasis or dandruff or try scalp issues so I definetly feel there products cause reactions on the scalp.

Oh my! I definitely agree! I think it’s the chemicals. They seem to do more harm than good unfortunately😩

this is dissapointing but i'm glad i saw it because i was going to buy the product. its not really a co-wash if it dries the hair and scalp
    like that.

I’m sure the product works for individuals with a normal scalp or seborrheic dermatitis. I have scalp psoriasis so it just didn’t work for my specific scalp condition 🤷🏽‍♀️

I know this comment was made a year ago cuz I've been using this product forever and swear by it. Completely turned my scalp and hair health around

Co-wash isn't going to cleanse your scalp... you need a clarifying shampoo. People swear off using ACV as a pre-poo but if you have severe scalp issues it's not enough if you do not wash often.

Lol I do. If you take a look at my channel you’ll see my many wash day videos using shampoo, even a psoriasis shampoo review. I was simply trying out this specific product in this video.

I personally think you didn't was your hair properly, persons with scalp psoriasis don't wash their hair once as your bair would need a deep clean. Acv rinse is good but maybe you needed a clarifying shampoo then the cowash. Cowash is a light cleanser inspite of what the product say. The instructions did say to massage onto wet hair your hair was damp, rinse and repeat, also do so twice a week for best result. Your strands felt clean as you said but you still saw some areas on the scalp which didnt get cleanse which means product worked partially. Quite an unfair review to the product since you didn't fully follow instructions.

You mention very good points. Thank you for the feedback. I simply incorporated the product into my regimen the way I would normally wash my hair with a co-wash, and maybe that is why didn't work, not necessarily the product - hmmm, okay. I may try it again and at least do a double cleanse with the product. I don't have time to wash my hair twice a week lol, but I may be willing try the product again using the application technique as directed. Thank you!!
