    I have a 13 MG NTX1200. Five things I love about it.
    1. Looks awesome ( especially in the burnt orange or rare blue )
    2. The view is amazing. Bike is tall
    3. Very comfortable
    4. For 650lbs it handles. Later FXRs. ✌️
    5. Fun and quirky bike. Its a Guzzi!
He isnt wrong about his points. The newer V85TT is more agile.

I ride a 2005 Moto Guzzi California EV Touring and I absolutly love it. Of course, parts are much more available here in Germany, but on the other hand, let's face it : My bike is one of the last old fashioned ones with much less electronic parts. You can fix a lot of things on a long ride by just using a bit of isolated wire, tape and a Leatherman knife. I've seen nearly every country of the EU on this bike and it never let me down. It's not an adventurebike, but I'm able to ride it on Swedens 3rd category roads. And it is gorgeous on the european highway, although I try to avoid them. Maybe I'll buy an other bike some day, less heavy, smaller, for my way into the city. Maybe a Moto Guzzi V7 III, but I wll never sell my California !

Just bought a new V7iii Stone, as I mainly ride around town, small country roads, commuting... just perfect for it! And lucky me, the only Guzzi dealer in my city is 8km from home! My coz had a California for nearly 20 years, and recalled always carrying a throttle wire, only part that would fail..

Bought a 2016 in 2017. I love riding it. I agree with your points in this video. Ièm lucky I have a dealer 5 minutes away from my home in Drummondville Qc, and another one in Sherbrooke.
Things that I would add to your list tho...
The digital dashboard is crap! It takes too long to respond to input. I hoped they would fix that by firmware upgrade, but it's obviously NOT gonna happen.
Like many others, I sprung an oil leak at the back of the swing arm. Looks like oil from the CARC is moving forward in the shaft housing. I also had to replace oil vapour hoses because the rubber dried up and cracked. I find that a 3 seasons lifespan is ridiculously short!
The large curved kickstand touched down a couple of times while on left turns. Granted, I tend to lean more than most people, but that scared the crap outa me at the time, and it made me lose confidence while turning left on sportier rides.
Overall, I love that bike and Ill keep it for a while yet, even though it is lagging behind newer bikes in terms of technology. Its character makes up for it... to me. If I had to do it all over, knowing what I know... It would be a toss between a VSTROM and the Stelvio. It's different and has more personality than the Suzy. Having to wait 2 weeks for expensive parts that should NOT need to be replaced already is more of an issue for me.
Side note, somewhat unrelated to this topic. I tried Michelin Road 5 Trail tires. I LOVE THEM! Excellent traction and rain performance, even though they get squiggly on tar snakes. Mileage is good, given the weight of the Fat Lady.

I now have also a Stelvio, i am coming from KTM to Bmw R1200GS LC, the BMW is now for sale and it stand in the garage.
I can only say the Stelvio has so much more chrakter and of course you need to learn some tricks to drive it nice. But for me it has by fare the best Suspension on any Bike i had. The Gearing is absolute perfect. And of coruse it is a Moto Guzzi my uncle has a cali and start it when i was young and i fall in love.

I rode a few different bikes including the Stelvio before purchasing my 2014 Multistrada Touring and what sold the Multistrada over the others to me was weight, it handel's like a much smaller bike and the Skyhook suspension. I've had 7 major spine surgeries (about to have another) and I can't begin to tell you how much difference the Skyhook makes. However like you said, no bike is perfect, and to me each bike has something that I liked that others didn't which made them all unique. Really there's no bad bike as long as you like it.👍
I just rode the 2021 Multistrada and OMG I'm in love. Unfortunately or fortunately... I can't afford one. 😂

I agree with others that this list is more of a list of "annoyances" than "hates" but I do agree with Different Spokes TV on some of his gripes as well. Mainly, the mpg and the gearing. I am pretty sure, bike being oil/air cooled has a lot to do with the lower fuel efficiency. Also in California, the gas has additives that causes vehicles to get lower mpg than most anywhere else. Based on my 2017 Stelvio's dash, I am getting around 30 mpg which is street riding all the way. Having heavy hands on the throttle doesn't help but the gauge might be off too because during battery replacement I disconnected everything and when I reconnected again, I was getting 44 mpg on the freeway which is amazing as it has never gotten above 36 mpg before.
I do agree with the gearing part. 120 is about 72 mph and the odometer hovers around 4K RPM in 6th gear and goes up to 5K RPM when I go around 78-80 mph which is a bit lousy.
For me, a few other annoyances would be:
    - The location of transmission (gearbox) drain plug, almost like an afterthought
    - North America version has the turn signals integrated into the side mirrors where the much cooler European version has them on the side panels
    - Seat screws were removed from models after 2011 where each seat piece holds the other in place via interconnecting ABS studs and corresponding grooves on the other piece
Front seat piece can slide and pop out of the groove and cause the seat to be slanted, creating an awkward ergonomics. This happens easily while in the higher seat position
    - Poor design of the auxiliary lights wiring that was never corrected or, lights upgraded to LED
    - Very top-heavy, especially when the tank is full. Practicing slow U-Turns become challenging
I am also unsure about the accuracy of the fuel levels. I can never put more than 5.5 US gallons of fuel after riding for a few miles with the fuel gauge flashing completely indicating that I am on reserve. Is the tank really 8.5 gallons for North America? If so, does the reserve hold around 3 (US) gallons? I am tempting put a gallon in a fuel container and ride till it stalls to see what the deal is.
I could tell this bike was never really meant for off-road or even gravel riding. Too big and heavy for most and not quite as agile but as mentioned, very planted and comfortable on pavement even in windy conditions which is something I value way more than off-road capability.
Regardless, I am really enjoying the bike. It is a solid all-around bike that has a "personality" that makes riding a motorcycle a more visceral experience for me.

The Stelvio is a bike I have wanted to own for a long time. I had a MG Norge a few years ago and found it have decent fuel economy if I tried. I still might get a Stelvio but also looking at the V85. Smaller displacement and weight and still has the character of a Guzzi.

  • @p6x2

Here in Texas, lane splitting is unlawful and those who do it expose themselves to harsh reactions from car drivers. As a European, I learned my lesson the hard way. The "valises" (I never understood why English speakers call them "Paniers") would never prevent me from staying in my lane...🙂
The Guzzi network is under represented everywhere in the world, including in Italy. Besides being rare, spares always need to come from Europe. This is a serious drawback for any aspiring Guzzi rider. While these bikes are extremely reliable, failure happens; if you are riding a Guzzi, you tend to have longer wait times without your ride.
All Guzzi have their center of gravity higher than the rest. My V11 Le Mans is also unstable on gravel, but once you get the hand of it, it is manageable. The biggest issue is moving the bike around. I dropped mine because it does not take much offset to have it go.
I average 40 mpg with my 1100 Le Mans when I am careful. In the city, it is around 35+ mpg. Premium gas only. At posted highway speed, in 6th gear, I am around 4500. But if need to do a quick pass, I don't need to drop one.
The Moto Guzzi is a tractor. It has torque.

Pretty much spot on. Still love my chubby Italian Guzzi. I’ve been thrashing the hell out of it, and it’s soaked up all the abuse. I’ve also taken it up some dirt trails, that some GS posers didn’t even attempt after they saw it. Like wrestling an elephant up the trails, but what a blast. Great bike

You have not evaluated well for your observations.
    1) weight: at the level of the competitors, with a superior chassis
    2) size of suitcases: the same width as the handlebar, check well. Competitors bring the suitcases to the bike but suitcase near the muffler is always cut. Check well. The side suitcases do not carry to get into traffic.
    3) power: the greater power of the current adventure does not mean more fun. Ducati Multistrada isn't ad adventure bike. KTM Superadventure is lots of smoke and little roast... Capisc? :D Stelvio's chassis is superior to that of the Multistrada. If you want more power there's Guareschi engine kit.
    4) consumption is variable. In traffic, consumption is higher (especially if you have side cases :D), about 17km / L. On suburban roads it goes great, they are over 20 km / L (with a control unit that modulates the lambda probe). Seriously do you want to compare the consumption of a 300cc with an 1150cc?
    5) the sixth gear could be longer, that's true
The full tank does not move the center of gravity upwards, indeed the Stelvio remains very well centered.
I don't think bmw gs adventure and ktm on superadventure T get the same result.
    Horrible and cistern-shaped tanks.
The Guzzi V-Twin also lowers the center of gravity, the bmw boxer is about the same level but exposes the engine to serious damage in the event of a fall.

The GS is lighter. The GSA might be about the same. I ride a 2009 RT. It weight close to that. I don't find it heavy at all. My RT gets around 40 with local riding which varies between traffic lights and 80 with my 21 mile commute. On trips with the cruise set to 80 I get 45-50.

On a hoot, and because dealerships and private sellers are practically giving them away, I came close to adding a Stelvio to the garage. Being a previous owner of older BMW’s I’m accustomed to quirky and I’m willing to pay the price of “character” but your last point killed the deal for me. My mechanic did 20 minutes of research, he tried to get three common parts; one was available in two weeks, one was at least a three month wait, and the last was simply unavailable. Quirky and character I can appreciate; not so much motorcycles as a lawn ornament.

    • @DifferentSpokesTV
      @DifferentSpokesTV  4 роки тому +2

Walter Wilkins I’m used to waiting for parts but that seems pretty extreme. You can get any part on guzzitech.com or from an official dealer. The problem is that there aren’t that many official dealers around.

    • @UncleWally3
      @UncleWally3 4 роки тому +1

Different Spokes TV: Thanks for the link, I’ll keep it handy. To be fair, I live in Atlantic Canada where Guzzi’s are far from common and I believe the more the part was likely needed, the less the waiting time. All that said, I’m still tempted, it’s a 2013 Stelvio NTX 1200 with 21 000 kilometers - seems to be in great shape - I believe it can now be had for a tad above $8000. I’d welcome any opinions about that part vintage . . . again, thanks.

    • @DifferentSpokesTV
      @DifferentSpokesTV  4 роки тому +2

Walter Wilkins That’s a pretty good deal for a bike of that quality. It’s a great bike but you have to balance its good qualities with how much of a pain it is to fix. Also, if the thing breaks down and you don’t have a dedicated Guzzi mechanic out there it could be trouble. One thing about quirky BMWs, there’s always a shop somewhere nearby. Not so with Guzzi.

Your handlebars are bent or the front end is tweaked.. looking at it throughout the video, your front end is tweaked.
I have been riding Guzzi’s since 1979. I have had four of them, combined miles is in excess of 200,000 miles not kilometers. I have never had a mechanical failure. The only part I ever had to buy other than valve cover gaskets from doing valve adjustments, was a universal joint for my 1979 SP 1000. It was not bad, when I pulled the driveshaft out to lube the splines the huge joint was rusty/squeaky. So I just put a new one in. I did have a dealer about 90 minutes away, no problem, he had them in stock. I bought spare throttle and spare clutch cables. I sealed the ends up and zip tied them under the seat and gas tank along the frame just in case. Those are the only parts I ever bought since 1979 and I had no trouble getting them. There are few were dealers, I did have four dealers within two hours of my home here in western Pennsylvania. They are all out of business. guzy bean counters and office people running the company put unattainable requirements on the dealers. I think they had to stock so many bikes, have so much show room area for display, ECTThe dealers I personally knew just said to hell with it and they went out of business.. I still have my Norge and I am considering buying a stove out here in February 2021. And come to think of it, I do not know where there is a dealer within two hours of western Pennsylvania. Even the two local BMW shops are gone.. not that I would ever buy another BMW. Let me think about that, nope, I’m never going out on that limb again..
you say there is no such thing as a perfect motorcycle. I’ve had 105 motorcycles since 1968, there is a perfect motorcycle. I have had two of them. The Honda Pacific coast. I commuted on my second one for 24 years. I maintained it routinely. Brake fluid/clutch fluid change, motorcycle only oil, never pressure washed it, nothing ever went wrong with that bike ever. I say it was my second one, because my first one got totaled from behind with me on it while I was waiting my turn at a stop sign on my daily commute to work one morning. The most profitable nine month paid vacation of my life..

The bike sounds pretty good. I have a 2012 KLR650. 40HP on a good day, same Traxx cases. It does okay, but the seat is crap. Which has made riding it literally a pain in the a**. So I don't ride it as much as I thought I would be and here in the Vancouver area, commuting to work is not fun. The plus side, the bike just goes.
    Cheers.

Here in the US it’s the same in regards to the lack of dealer support. I live in North Carolina. The closest dealer is three and a half hours away in Charlotte. In fairness to Moto Guzzi, the nearest BMW, KTM or Triumph dealers are between two and a half to three hours away. Wonder why most people are riding Harley’s or Japanese bikes? It’s simple. Their dealer networks are far superior. There’s a Harley dealer in town as well as a Honda & Suzuki store. Within an hour’s ride there are other Japanese and Harley stores..

Too wide - Nonsense. Take the boxes off if you dont like it. how much do you need to haul to work? the same issue exists if you are running a GS or a tiger with bags on it.
Too heavy - no heavier or unwieldy than any other big twin dual sport. Im glad that guzzi has twice made a bike suitable to my size.
Not offroady - its the rider not the bike. by your own admission, you dont do the offroad much. BTW ever done the maintenance on a KTM?
Not enough power - nitpicking bench racing.
MPG - comparing a 300cc with a 1200 twin...apples and potatos, my friend. 4k rpm at 70 you were in 5th gear. theres another gear. you could drop to 3500 at that speed if you are so concerned. and look at the barn door you have stuck on the front
Parts - Guzzi has never had an extensive network in the americas. Even so Ive never waited more than a week for anything in 20 years. If your dealer or parts source is making you wait, they are incompetent. It is true many guzzi service centers are pretty poor. so you had better be your own mechanic.
There are many legit complaints about the stelvio. Stingy with the grease on the swingarm and shock link. There are DO NOT TOUCH screws on the throttle bodies. the pre-2013 bikes have a colossal mechanical issue that you have to be aware of before purchase. as I said, you need to be self-reliant and cultivate parts sources - multiple dealers including teo lamers and agostini.
Guzzis are bikes for the smitten; not the wise. You dont buy an alfa romeo and expect a camry.

I have a 2013 & fully agree with the weight, poor fuel mileage (my Ford Focus gets better mileage) & for me the damn near useless rear brake. This is truly needed when off roading, & just doesn't work. It is a great cross country bike that is comfortable but could use cruise control. Shame on Moto Guzzi for not doing that. Dealer network, HA! non existent. This alone is why they will never be truly popular here in this hemisphere.
While I may never replace the bike (like you, I do like it), I sure can think these days of a number of replacements for it.

Guzzi and fuel economy sadly don't go hand in hand!! Lol if I put my Moto Guzzi Audace 1400 in sport mode and ride I like it should be ridden well I'm happy of I get more ten 200km from my 20.5 liters fuel tank before my fuel worning light comes on! Now when I put it in rain mode aka the economy mode and I'm on the motorway at constant 120kmh I get probably 250km before the low fuel light comes on so that is definitely the case with the big block Guzzi they like to drink. But from what I heard the new V85tt has a much better fuel economy but less power at thet

@@DifferentSpokesTV Perhaps. My 2011 CBR 250 has a 13l tank and the last bar starts flashing at around 250km. But when I refuel I only get 7 - 8 liters into the tank so maybe it has an almost 50% reserve as well. You should reset the trip km after refueling and then check the km when you refuel next time. You can then calculate your gas mileage with the amount of fuel you pumped into the tank.

Usually they get the parts fairly quickly and there are other companies that can be ordered from. I own two Guzzis, a V9 bobber full custom and just bought a V85TT 2021. I do all the work on my bikes myself, I own 6 bikes, all Italian, and running to the dealer 15 miles away takes an hour on a very good day.

@@andersd8956 It does everything well but nothing excellent. The suspension is very good but I haven't taken it off road. For street use it is excellent. The brakes are very good, too. Fully loaded with all the cases and fuel it is about 530lbs. It doesn't feel like it though because it is very well balanced. Very easy to ride, there's no learning curve. I'm 6.2" and I fit on it like a glove. The lights are excellent and the seat very comfortable. The windshield is ok, I changed mine with the ermax version for it, 500mm and it works great.
There's on big minus. POWER. The engine delivers the power very smoothly and the low to midrange is excellent. The engine breaking is excellent, too. However, it is NOT a bike that will cruise at 120mph. It doesn't have enough horsepower. Overall, I like it a lot. I don't really need the extra horsepower that I mentioned above, I like to ride that bike in a civilized manner. I have my Aprilia Tuono to ride like a lunatic. Gotta say, for the money, it is very beautiful and pleasant bike to ride and on those terms I highly recommend it.

One more thing. I also have a BMW F800ST and absolutely hated. The problem with the BMWs, they are very bulky and MUTED. They have no character. Something that the Guzzi certainly has. Having said that, I advise to to test drive one before you buy one because the Guzzis are the kind of bikes that you either love or absolutely hate. There's no middle ground. I personally love them.
