I went with the IKEA peg board charging station idea myself.
I use a 10 usb port charger with 1 ft cables, there're few long cables wrapped with reusable ties in case I needed to use something while charging it.
For your setup, and in case you needed that corner in the future, I would suggest some controller hangers attached to the bottom of the shelves each above the console the controller belongs to
I started using magnetic USB charging buttons and cables. That way I can use one single cord to charge whatever controller/device I need.
👍For charging I've opted to adapt everything to usb and get one of those small 10-usb fast-chargers. 1ft adapters for standard usb covered most things, but there had to be specialty usb adapters acquired for the Nintendo stuff, psps etc. I stuck the charger to the top of the little drawer organizer for the usb adapters and called it good.
I've also completely switched my philosophy about having many systems hooked up at once. You might come around to it someday. I went down to a single 5-port hdmi selector. Now it's just pc, MiSTer and a scaler always hooked up, plus two large quick-swapping setup stations for my current gaming kicks. Stations are big enough for the system, and a box or storage tub. and one has storage slots for all the smaller systems I might want quickly--analogue systems, evercade, ouya/mojo/pstv etc.
@@Reaperman4711I went with the same philosophy some years ago. Each of my systems is in a small plastic tote with its accessories. If I want to play one, it takes 5 minutes to hook it up and they never get dirty, wet, UV damaged, etc.
Brilliant, as usual. I like that you made the station a mini version of your main setup. Also I want to take a second to say how happy I was to see your channel make a resurgence, it made me smile as much as seeing Classic Game Room come back.
Consider a timer like a charge-o-matic to charge for a few hours every few days instead of constantly. It’s better for the life of the battery.
I actually do use a timer switch for charging: it turns on overnight between ~8-12. These can be gotten very cheaply at convenience stores or online, and are sometimes advertised for use with lighting. Disregard this, any low-power equipment can be powered using it.
I like how you set this up.
1:57, then you end up with cords that have to be put somewhere. 🤔
In my humble collection charging can be a chore.
Especially to cycle all the controllers so that they don't go flat and their batteries die/deteriorate.
I made charging station closet complete with cube bins for storage and I can hide all the cords behind the bins. Hardest part was running outlets to the closet. On your setup , nothing wrong with what you did. If it works for you , who cares what other people think. Do you!!
That charging station a really good idea
I'm actually eating popcorn while watching this lol
Your channel is quite fun.
His videos are the only gaming videos I watch now.
I was making a reference to another UA-camr when I made the comment. Not sure if people noticed. Oh well.
Thanks for the idea\suggestion.
You have some good ideas. I bought the Pyle power rack that you have for my systems.😊
If you ever have a puffed lipo battery put it in salt water to help it discharge. Never poke iol . Thank you for the good videos.
nice idea, I have the same problem with my handheld collection .. I make the cables into "circles" not "bows", as they take less space this way ;)
What I do is get little adapters that are every charger end you need but go on the end of USBC cable. Madlittlepixel did a video on them. Now everything I own is USB C, I just have tiny adapters. Even proprietary connectors like the magnetic one for my Aftershokz headphones and my Garmin watch charger have tiny USB C adapters. You could buy the adapters you need and short USB C cables to really tidy things up.
This is why I do emulation. Its a cool set up and I like seeing it, and I appreciate your hard work and enthusiasm and I'm not trashing you or consoles or anything like that, but I simply could not deal with all that. Even when I was 17 and I had an SNES, N64, Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox 360 it was too much.
May i Suggest the Humble Rack mount? Get one from nearby.(Alot of Businesses cant give these things away so always look before you buy one. Old audio jockey's have smaller ones with casters too for rolling around.) You can get the Rack legs on their own as well.
Cut a few pieces of 1/4 19" PVC Trim to the size shelf you want/have and bolt some L brackets. Grab the locking nuts and attach the new shelf to the Rack mount. Now they sell Horizontal and Vertical Wire corridors with teeth to let them out as needed. Toss a UPS at the bottom or a nice powerstrip to easily cut all power to the small tower Daisy Chain up keep it so only two power strips/UPS are ever used to the mains. will allow the whole set up to be portable around the room. You can even bolt the trim as walls on the outside/back of the rack to help clean it up or add a lip for each shelf.
I prefer PVC despite it being more expensive it will always be white and scratches can only be felt not seen. Also not as MUCH as a hazard as wood for fire but even Metal can burn in a fire caused by lithium... If you really are worried buy tile or bluestone or have someone FAB clay shelving. Fire is a hazard with batteries no matter what your best precaution is prevention of the spicy pillows in the first place.
The thing is, the current changing station is just fine, so I'm relieved I don't have to all those things. LOL.
00:48 ah yes, the Ouya phone streaming app 😂😂
Cool bro. 😎👍👍
Looks nice.
Good call.
I also have trouble figuring out a nice setup for charging controllers (how doesn't?) I'm thinking of making a small vertical column with multiple 3D printed holders, one for each controller, and insert a 10 port USB charger inside, which will have 10 cables going up the column and exiting through holes right under the holders so I can charge all controllers "on display". So far no column and no 3D printer, so call it a work in progress.
That's a rally good idea!
You should put shelves into it and if fire is a concern try sourcing some mesh shelves I’m sure they exist. I love the channel too but I think you should revisit this idea when you get some time. LOVED the Otogi video btw. That is one of the reasons I’m going to mod my OG Xbox as it’ll cost less than that game does. Keep up the great work
This is what I’m talking about. Game room upgrade vid, nice.
Feel better friend
00:47 😂
Con este video contesto un pregunta que no me dejaba dormir por las noches
Desde que los controles empezaron a ser inalámbrico
Era un tema más sencillo de lo que esperaba
Está noche dormiré mejor
This is a great idea!
i wish i had wall space in my game room for awesome posters like that. sadly, every square inch is another place to store a game.
2:28 You have a toilet in your gaming room? How convenient.
lets just say I'm sitting in the right chair
I'd be more concerned about mounting any power cables onto a full metal shelf...that can conduct electricity if you're not careful.
Ah yes the Inmortal John Hancock reference 😂
I like the posters
You should consider some small 4 or 6 inch usb cables
Yeah, I thought about that after the video
Has anyone had any luck with the magnetic “adapter” charging systems, *where there’s a magnetic junction to the various plug types on the other end, for their controllers? Was thinking those would be great for controllers and saving wear on the plugs. The amazon reviews mostly seem to be people complaining about them not charging fast enough for phones.
Thanks for the vid, Kevin!
@@aaakkk112- I'm in the same boat ... have no intention of using the cables on anything beyond devices with small batteries, so not real concerned about magnetic coupler inhibting high power throughput. Replied to your other post about the brand you were most happey with ;)
None of my modern controllers need to be charged. Because I bought wired controllers instead of wireless to avoid as much input lag as possible. Can't do that for everything but it is my preference
I don't have OCD or anything like it, but the systems not being organized by brand is killing me. I also keep mine sorted in chronological order within each brand, but that wouldn't bother me as much.
Arrr, these comments! These are all hooked up to TVs, so you can't really have the PS1 near the PS5, since they go to different TVs. See the tour for more details.
And the games want to charge you extra for basic things now. We live in the charging age og gaming!
Does that little outlet strip actually charge PS3 controllers? It's been my experience that they only thing that will charge them is the PS3 itself. I guess at one point Sony sold an official charger that would too?
Also...If you want shelf liners, but not plastic ones, try cookie sheets. I have some wire shelf units that I store bottles of liquids on and the wires can tend to cause them to leak. The cookie sheet prevents that and gives "some" amount of volume to capture a spill if it happens.
I'll check on that.
The ps3 controller required some kind of handshake with the charger so not all will work. There is a video on this analyzing the controller data in real time during a charge 'How to charge PS3 controller with phone charger'. The Wii U Pro controller is another one that's difficult to find a standalone charger.
@@rstrn8sMy iPods were the same way... It's trend that I'm happy to see has passed.
@@GamingTheSystems1...the suspense is killing me. 😅
You should build another arch
I just had covid for the second time a couple months ago. I was sick for 10 days, it was way worse the second time. I was only sick 4 days the first time.
Microcenter 😍
A cherished place.
nice i love it
I'm sure you've probably gone into detail about your setup in another video, but are all those systems hooked up and ready to play?
Yes, see tour posted several months ago.
How do you deal with dust and maintenance?
Dust eating nano-bots, naturally.
His game room is in the right place its upstairs away from any open windows and doors.
I hire outside labor to dust and run firmware updates
what is your most hated console?
0:47 the ouya gonna need to charge it with mods or else it's useless
your cable management needs help my good sir
Nope, it doesn't. Move along now.
why won’t you just get a charging dock or controller?
I’m one of those people who thinks that looks awful. Sorry. But it’s just a total mess. Still love your videos though.
Mess? It's a charging station; it's not trying to win a beauty contest. It's there to charge things.
W that consoles there is no way avoiding all the cables. Ever seen a data center?
@@jacktsang05 Yes. I work for a cabling contractor and we install beautiful cable management in data centers. This is why a mess like shown in this video makes me cringe. My charge stands/docks are all on shelves and have cable management down the back of the shelf, out of sight. A clean look is the only way to go for me. To each their own. Cleaning up cabling messes is part of my job, so I guess I should be thankful most people have no cable management skills or I'd be out of a job.
You coukd have avoided all this nonsense by using emulators on your computer and wired gamepads.
Oh gosh, another one of those pompous comments about emulators.
