The permatex has gone off and failed on my car. A couple of very hot days I think and the glue must have gotten too hot. Is there anything I can do with steam or a heat gun to get the glue to rebound itself? It’s been about 3 months since I did the new headliner, cleaned all the old glue off and I used a can and a half of the permatex product on both the material and the board.

Did you also use new foam backed headliner fabric? Or reused the old stuff?
Our steps to insure long lasting replacement is:
Glue in high stress areas first.
X2 layers of glue on board.
X2 layers of glue on back of fabric.
      Bring the two together.
Then press very firmly down with a pad to insure good adhesion.

@@ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs yeah, used new fabric, the old was done with the foam failing. Used a boatload of glue but no double coating. Everything else followed. The only thing I think is glue’s gotten too hot (40 degree day, black golf?) or the liner material is heavier than factory so dropped in a few spots.

Only dropped in a few spots? Or the whole roof again?
As the VW golf may be a oily board, and can have issues sticking around the sunglasses console sections, but Permatex would give no issues so all should be OK as long as the baord was cleaned very good and new fabric was added without stretching and placing under tension.
Also if it's our material, we been using the same stock for 7+ years bow without any issues.

@@ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs Yeah unfortunately, it's only drooped at the rear corners/sides. Must have placed it under too much tension there or left too much residue on the old board.
