Unreal. I have a Juke - and this exact problem happened. Brought out a Mechanic and he told me I'd need a new starter (maybe a new alternator). Watched this video, tried your fix, and the CAR STARTED. $50 fix to replace the connectors with new. You saved me so much money - thank you!
I have a 2002 Nissan Pathfinder and need to replace the hard rubber bushing that goes into the break pedal. It comes into contact with the tip of the switch to turn off the break lights. The cruise control switch also rests on a similar bushing. Both bushing disintegrated after only 22 years😂😂😂, so no complaint here. They cost $5.00 each. I think a mechanic would charge over $50 to replace them. Definitely you solved a big problem for me. Thanks!
This video just save me money. My 2018 Nissan maxima was having the same problem. Just a simple twist remove the switch. I did not even need a screwdriver. Many thanks ❤
All I did is to remove the switch, open the switch gently by releasing it from side clips, you will see two free terminals. Take them out. Use maf sensor cleaner to clean it. rubbed them gently against sandpaper (two small round points) put them back on, make sure both terminals should touching each other. I have fixed my cruise blinking and not engaging issue. You probably don't need to buy new one😂. 5 minutes and done. Cheers
Your two videos saved me. I was headed on a trip to Florida from DC when mine started acting up. I feared I would be stranded but these videos helped me get there and fix it next day. Many many thanks bro.
A friend took a look and said that the switch was making contact and not loose. I'm going to test an see if it is the brake booster. I love you UA-cam posters. You saved me.
That seems to be early for those switches to fail, but it is possible that there is dust or grit in them that is making it lose contact every now and then. I took apart the one that caused my issue and it looked pretty good inside except on of the contacts looked like it had over heated and was completely discolored, the other contacts looked great like they were new.
This helped so much. After squandering around for 15 minutes trying to figure out where to start, I watched this and was finished about 6 minutes later on my brake switch
Very well done! I have a 2009 FX35 with a touch over 100k miles that is starting to show signs of starting troubles that seem switch-related rather than starter related. Your video was great! The steady webcam idea was brilliant and worked well. Your apologies for grunts are appreciated but not necessary. Anyone who has worked under the dash knows exactly the torture you were enduring!!! I previously installed a remote start in this vehicle and left part of my soul under the dash in the process. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Thank for for such a nice comment! I did like the way the second camera worked out, I have not had a chance to use that setup again. Yep every time I get under a dash I feel like I am in a torture dungeon!
Friend, You are a person who "has your furniture in your head, well placed" Thank you because I had my focus on this issue that you solved very well. A note. Do not disconnect any electrical part in Nissan, without disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. For the CPU to "see" when something new is installed. And avoid programming you want a complicated and expensive scanner. Thank you, Doctor
Great video. Thanks so much. It took only a few minutes to remove and re-install both switches. I actually didn't replace the switches but just turned them plunger-side-up and sprayed W-40 into them and they have worked perfectly.
I recently aquired a relatively low mileage(89,000) 1996 Nissan Altima. It runs great, everything works as it should, except for the cruise control. I tried to use it, and it would not set the cruise speed. The cruise control light on dash blinked. I read it may be the brake light switch? The brakes light up fine, but I was just going to go ahead and purchase a new brake light switch, since they're not a whole lot of money. Then, looking on rock auto, I see my car(apparently lots of cars) also has a similar looking, cruise control release switch. I don't have a way to test the switches, and now I'm not sure which one to replace, or maybe just replace both? Does spraying WD-40 on them somehow restore the connection or something if one, or both quit working? Any Advice would he greatly appreciated.
@@BradleyGunner-67 Hi David. I'm not the original poster. He replaced both switches and that's probably the best way to do it. But I'm, at best, a "shade tree" mechanic, so I just took both of the switches out and sprayed down into the plungers with WD-40. They are still working fine today. WD-40 is good for restoring SOME connectivity problems and worked well in this case. The switches are easy to remove and replace and require no tools to do so. Just take care to put them and their connectors back just as you found them and it should work. If not, then just replace them as the original poster did. One or both of these switches does permit the cruise control to work. I'm not sure which one, so service them both. Good luck.

Your garden is so impressive I wish I could do that much but I am limited by water here, the well only produces about 1.25 gallons per minute so it is easy to dry it out with too much watering.
Good shit fam. Going to help my ol man replace his tomorrow. Of course I’ll be doing the grunt work. It’s all good though. Easy replace without getting hit upside the head with expenses
I don't have a Nissan but if I did, I'd know how to replace the brake & cruise control switch! Love how you set the cameras up, very well done my friend! 👌🙂👌
I’m not sure if the 2020 Sentra has the same switches but it definitely has the same issues. My niece drove over 1000 miles to our place a couple weeks ago. Somewhere along the way someone told her that her twilight was out. I went out to the car with her and told her to turn the lights on. Sure enough only one twilight was on. I told her to press the brake pedal, nothing! The third brake light worked but the two in the tail lights didn’t. A 4 year old car and if this is the switch issue, she’s past her warranty for a faulty switch ( I know bulbs, brake pads, tires, wipers etc aren’t covered ) so this is on her. I’ve never had a tail light, or signal light burn out within the first 5 or 6 years so if 3 bulbs in the rear taillights burned out that’s pretty sad. I’ve never had a switch malfunction but then I’ve only ever owned one Nissan an early 80s Stanza. By the number of UA-cam videos and Nissan Forum comments, this is a very common Nissan problem. This is also a safety hazard as brake lights come in pretty handy in avoiding being hit from behind.
If you dont have money or you dont want to spend that money you can actually Fix it your self its easy. just open the switch and clean or sand the copper connections that are inside and its going to work as new.
There was a small gray hard plastic ball on the carpet. Where did that come from? The AAA mechanic said there would be one and there was. - of course mine is a 2003 Frontier.
This video is awesome and the one before this one with the wiggling of the wires. Quick question, can I purchase these two items for a Nissan Maxima as well??
These videos are great but I just have a hard time visualizing what I need to do, or where to be, when the camera seems to be taking a picture upside down . However, that's a great idea to be using a 2nd camera device to help see where things are, rather than turning my head upside down!
It is a tight area down under there. If you follow the brake pedal back side then up the the arm you can see the switches attached near the top of the arm.
My 08 Nissan Altima, all the brakes are dragging and I’ve replaced both these switches with no difference. Would anyone know what else could be causing this?
Super Awesome!!! But what if the switch is okay, and the part that pushes the switch's spring thing from the depressed brake pedal is broken??? So the spring isn't being pushed far enough, keeping the lights on all the time?! Oh my gosh. But thank you!! Really helped a lot!!
Great video. I just went to replace my cruise control switch on my y62 patrol and for some reason my brakes got jam the moment I hit cruise control and the brake didn't release until I removed it from the pedal itself. Any idea why?
Thanks a ton! You were very helpful in explaining, while demonstrating, despite the tight squeeze. I just hope this fixes my problem. The set cruise control light keeps blinking. Fingers crossed 🤞
My cruise control (cc) is not lighting up, nor working. It is precious for me to have cc for a longer 75mph commute. You think I should just purchase the cc switch/ part & go from there?

I will try and make your live stream!
Your garden is so impressive I wish I could do that much but I am limited by water here, the well only produces about 1.25 gallons per minute so it is easy to dry it out with too much watering.
If you get stuck somewhere just wiggle on it a bit. Worked for me and might just need to clean it after that.
MSH thank you! Fixed my xtrail after viewing this.
Thank you for watching. That worked well with the two camera angles.
Thank you so much I loved how you had the two different angels. It was so helpful!!
Sorry, I missed this one when it came out!! I like your repairs!! Super good channel. BIG Thumbs UP #25
No problem. I miss lots of new videos but eventually I make it to them. Thanks for the nice comment!
Wow this was a great video. Nice job with the dual cameras and the grunting was good because now I know I am not the only one :)
Thanks! 😀
Great video. Thank you. Took longer to drive to the parts store then it took to replace the switch.
Very well explained and great camera work!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, glad to have helped out!!!
Very very helpful. Thank you so much for this.
The Juke was my last Nissan...ever
I appreciate your putting this video together - helped me a lot.
Glad it helped
Useful information! Thanks for sharing with so much great details. Nice work. I became your fan.
So great that you're handy and can fix things yourself.. Enjoyed in full watch.
Thank you! I like to fix things, it is a challenge like trying to figure out a puzzle, only trying to find what is broken or missing.
Thank you. So patience and easy to follow with clear camera angle. GBU.
If you dont have money or you dont want to spend that money you can actually Fix it your self its easy. just open the switch and clean or sand the copper connections that are inside and its going to work as new.
Yah that’s painful to get in there, the 2001 Nissian maxima has a similar set up.
There was a small gray hard plastic ball on the carpet.
Where did that come from?
The AAA mechanic said there would be one and there was.
- of course mine is a 2003 Frontier.
amazing video very helpfully You give a solution for the big difficult code default in my car thanks a lot
you are welcome!
Well....got me to the point of taking them out. The plug of the new switch is different. Dammit Autozone !
I m very glad to learn another useful information!Keep it up!Thank you!
Thank you!
Video saved me $180.00
Thank you for letting me know. I love to hear that I helped someone out!!
Still rollin along fine.Man you have some views on your videos. Well done!
Thank you Rob!
Helped alot but do you have disconnect the battery.
Super Awesome!!! But what if the switch is okay, and the part that pushes the switch's spring thing from the depressed brake pedal is broken??? So the spring isn't being pushed far enough, keeping the lights on all the time?! Oh my gosh. But thank you!! Really helped a lot!!
Thank you for that other angle. Made a big difference. 👍
Great video. I just went to replace my cruise control switch on my y62 patrol and for some reason my brakes got jam the moment I hit cruise control and the brake didn't release until I removed it from the pedal itself. Any idea why?
Love this one Kirk. Those switches are not too expensive considering what they do but they did not show your exact model on your ads.
Thank you John!
Hi Guys, I am helpless sitting in Vietnam with the same problem (Juke 2015). Will order and replace those switches and let you know how it works.
Thanks a ton! You were very helpful in explaining, while demonstrating, despite the tight squeeze. I just hope this fixes my problem. The set cruise control light keeps blinking. Fingers crossed 🤞
Did it stop blinking
Yo you still stuck in there? 😂 thank you I hope this fixes my issue
It felt like an eternity working under the dash area...
How do you replace the brake pedal would it have the plastic screw for the switch attached?
Thanks very much from Greece
You are welcome, glad to have helped!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I'm going to try replacing it myself.
It's the same procedure for all models?
Did changing out the brake switch fix the starting problem
@@poseyd66 Yes, the problem went away when I replaced the switches. It never returned.
@@madscientisthut Thank you! Ordered the switch just now.
Ok are you getting the blinking “set” switch on the dashboard?
My cruise control (cc) is not lighting up, nor working. It is precious for me to have cc for a longer 75mph commute. You think I should just purchase the cc switch/ part & go from there?
