  • My 1997 Nissan Maxima cruise control failed, and after doing research in Maxima forums, I discovered this is a common failure with an easy fix to repair it. A small plastic stopper breaks over time, and a simple dime is used to replace the plastic part to solve the problem. This solution came from posts in the Maxima forum.

    One side of brake pedal has a switch for cruise control and the other side is for the brake lights. This same trick works if your brake lights are stuck on. If you find bits of rubber / plastic on the floor and have either of these issues this is the fix you need. Thanks Raymoman!

    Worked at the Nissan dealer for 7 yrs, we just learned to contort like a circus performer instead of removing the seat. Even at 60 yrs old , did one a few weeks ago, filed down a 357 Magnum casing, cut it short, and popped it in the hole. Works great.

    Was able to do this without removing the seat! I laid down the driver's seat all the way and pushed it back as far as possible. Purchased an OEM stopper on amazon and then started the car so that the brake pedal would more easily depress. Used long needle nose pliers (and the help of a friend) to position the stopper in front of the sensor and then used the brake pedal to help push the stopper in place. Not too bad! Cruise is working great again.

      When cruise control wasn't working, wash the dash light off? And was the switch light on?
      I'd appreciate your answer. Thanks.
      The light for my switch is on but no light on the dash display.

    Great video but I did not have that problem on my 2000 Maxima. I checked my throttle cables - all good. Never could find a fuse - maybe there isn't one. I did find that the vacuum line had slipped off the back of the actuator. I slipped it back on, and just like that I had cruise control. The previous owner said it never worked for him so, I guess it should work like new.

    Does nissan sunny b14 2002 have cruise system

    Doesn't seem like a reasonable thing to do IMHO. The part needed to do this repair is Nissan 46584-S0100 (Stopper-Rubber) and cost ~$5 at the dealer. Installation is easy even without removing the seat. With the engine running, push the break pedal, insert the Rubber-Stopper and use the pedal to push it into place.

      My rr. passenger disc brake locked up (smell the Akebono burn) after doing the insert. I lifted pedal/unlocked brake, then removed fuse & reinserted fuse (brake light went off)

    Tried this to find that it makes my brakes slowly build up until the car is fighting itself and my brakes are smoking, anyone have an explaination? Granted, the vid is old.

      I’d check the spacing. Mine didn’t have any issues. The thickness didn’t appear to change anything other than trigger the switch. If you remove the coin, does it clear up?

    • @AwesomeRainbowDash2
      @AwesomeRainbowDash2 3 роки тому

      @@Raymazon It does after I removed the dime. Both times I tried. First time was with hot glue since I didn't have any contact cement. Thought it was that the hot glue that was too thick and replaced it with all purpose glue (fancy superglue pretty much). It lasted longer before the brakes became tight and smoked 'till I could park it somewhere.
