Citizen is one of those watch brands that doesn't get enough attention. They do provide great value for the money, but I think they get overshadowed by Seiko. Thank you Teddy for focusing on this Citizen model with the beautiful yellow dial.
Problem is they keep making watches that are too big. If only they made them a tiny bit smaller, they'd be more popular among watch snobs
@@ramr7051 Agreed. If Citizen would make more 40 mm wide watches, while maintaining much of their design aesthetic, they could broaden their appeal.
Citizen doesnt get attention in north america. They are bigger than seiko.
Maybe they should not release their affordable, pretty watches in select Asian countries then if they want more. My sympathy is woefully absent here given their profit margins.
I didn't even realise that they make automatics🙈
love that this man gives such honest reviews despite the watch being for sale on his own website
Very first watch was a Citizen my father gave me when I was 8, I'm 33 and it's STILL in my collection running great
@JustWanna Shagmore Chix I think their Promaster series is as cool as it gets.
I have a Citizen new master which is old around 5 decades running like butter, that's why I prefer JDM watches.⌚️
looks like Citizen is trying to get the PRX dollars.
True but...
That's just a point in history.
Citizen has all legitimity doing an integrated bracelet watch, they've been doing it since the 70's, as long as Tissot.
And Tissot became the cheap Quartz and entry level brand of the Swatch group to get the citizen $ in other times...
I saw one of these in India but it has a Miyota 8xxx movement so no go for me. Just not worth any amount of money for me personally
I'm wearing my powrmatix 80 and seeing that handset really do same
Imo the non hacking was a major strike agaibst for a movement in 2022/23 timepiece
Citizen makes better bands and has better customer service. PRX doesn’t care if you are a customer or not.
Thank you Teddy. It is great to see affordability, quality and good looks in one package. Thank you for bringing it to us. Happy New Year!
Gonna be honest Teddy, I only watch your great channel a few times a year but binge watch everything in a few days.
Appreciate the support, my friend!
I didn't realize how new this watch is/was! I got it Mid August, I couldn't resist that yellow dial! It looks more like a butterscotch candy in the sunlight. The bracelet is probably the most comfortable I've ever worn. The links are so small, plus with the micro adjust, it fits perfectly. Mine definitely runs fast and setting the date is an absolute pain! But, I really like the crown being recessed into the watch, just feels so comfortable on the wrist! This is an absolute favorite for a bright and sunny day, which is almost all year around here! This is my Sam Adams watch....always a good decision!
Mine runs fast two it almost gains a couple of mins a day is that the case with yours as well ?
Miyota 8000 series movements are known to be pretty inaccurate and generally low quality. I think Teddy was wrong to say it's close to the 4r movements of Seiko.
The 4r movement is just Seikos crappy, bottom of the barrel, 7s movement with hacking and hand winding, no other difference. The advantages over the Miyota 8000 series (if you care about them) are that it hacks and has a bidirectional rotor, but it's no more accurate than the 8000 series. Some people even claim it's less accurate, but realistically they have the same -20/+40 seconds per day accuracy.
@@BlagoP You are probably right, but in my experience 4r movements have kept better time than 8000 series movements. And those have a louder rotor as well. 9000 are much better though
Can this citizen be adjusted? I adjusted an eta2824 before and kept the time very well after. not sure if this can be adjusted
Have this watch for a momth and i absolutely love it….citizen is killing it last few months!!! Bunch of cool new stuff
Had these on my radar for some time. Definitely will find it's way into my watch box soon
I’ve had this watch on my radar for a bit, excellent video!
This has been on my list since it came out. Gorgeous watch
Thanks Teddy for your review, I am a watch enthusiast, but I am mostly motivated by the aesthetics, and the spectrum of colours of these watches seem really appealing.
Teddy I absolutely love your website, and although I have yet to purchase a watch from your store I do indeed plan on getting one soon! I like how your budget friendly section showcases the best watches for the price.
Just bought this watch an hour before this video!! Stunner to see. The clasp is very slim and i like that and it fits the watch. Yes i like this watch very much!! Greetings from Holland
Thinking that yellow dial is great! Definitely different and stands out. A conversation piece at a party.
Thanks for this short review. I was about to buy PRX... but, I bought the CITIZEN just 2 hours ago the green dial... I like it very much... of course there're PROS and CONS but for Euro 255 you can't ask more.
This was on the table when deciding what my everyday auto should be...I went for a Tisell Explorer 36. Better movement, better wearing dimensions, standard lugs, DAMN GOOD BRACELET and overall that proven Rolex design...
So glad your making a video on this one. In one of my watch groups on FB this yellow dial has been popping up in everyone’s collection it seems
Teddy you are and always will be my favourite! Always there to help us have a better undestainding of the complicated world of orology. Just bought two yellow ones. To me its really a no brainer even for 350/400 bucks since it is really hard to find here in Europe as well. Wanna keep one in the closet and see what happens when it will be discontinued years from now... ( maybe another Seiko alpinist Sarb017 story !?) In Italy this one was sold out already two months ago, now Citizen is distributing those again, problem is that the shops must order all the references available for this market (4 - Green, Blue, Black, Yellow) and while the yellow ones are sold out before they even arrive at the shops (believe it or not there are people in the waiting lists to get one), all the other references are harder to sell and therefore shops here just order 2/3 pieces each four months.People that know I have two are already chasing me up with offers to get one believe it or not.
Merry Christmas Teddy: I think this is a fun watch and though I haven't seen the other colors it comes in, I like this yellow. I think it would make a fun summer watch and a nice addition to any collection. Have a happy new year.
Big appreciation to you channel sir🙏, big help for the watch industry.
I won this watch, and had so many complements. The one I have has the green dial. I really like the style, the size and it’s wearability. Good bang for the money. Of course it has its short comes like the clasp and the inconstant design language with the rounded bracelet and the edged case. But all been said I really like it. It’s a lot better on my wrist than the PRX as it has 45 mm lug to lug. Thanks Ted for the review.
How does the battery work? Do I have to replace it every so often? I have an eco-drive citizen watch, so it might be a hassle to keep changing it.
I bought this watch when i was on vacation in Philippines. Been wearing it for a month now and i love it so far 😊
Superb video. Great watch at the price point. Can see the stark inspiration of bigger brands. The crown is probably the most quirky thing about it.
I really like the look of this watch. Great summer watch for us in the southern hemisphere right now
bought this 3 months ago i love it works perfect as a everyday watch
I have an old Citizen 21 from 1972. Looks the same, but with day date. Has the same crown position and requires a crown winding tool even though it is an automatic. Keeps excellent time +4 secs a day. Bracelet gave out long ago, so using a croc skin leather.
This is somewhat like the Seiko Recraft series of automatics in my mind, just for a different style of watch. They make for a great introduction to automatic watches as they are simple and still good looking, while also lacking some features that might otherwise go unnoticed on more expensive offerings if you jumped straight to them instead.
I got a SNKM97 on sale for just over $120 not too long ago, and it's taught me a lot about owning an automatic. Previously I've only owned quartz movements so it definitely takes some adjustment, but seeing the movement work and hearing it tick when you hold it to your ear is definitely rewarding. I now know just how much I'd like a hackable movement though!
This is a great automatic from a reputable brand. I’d hold off until it came down a little in price first but even at $300, this is pretty good.
I like Citizen and have 2 now and really enjoy wearing them, don't feel guilty as they are affordable, but wasn't sure on this one and needed Teddy's seal of approval. I'm more than happy to get it now. Plus the black one is going for £170, so what am I waiting for! Great video as usual.
Thanks for the review! Just got the yellow version in Singapore and it looks & feels fantastic.
thanks for the interesting content! keep it coming!
Teddy, I have purchased the yellow and turquoise colours really nice watch and very comfortable to wear, no issues with the bracelet whatsoever. Thank you for the review.
Thank you for profiling this watch, Teddy. I believe that if and when Citizen brings them to the U.S. market they will sell well.
Agreed. I hope citizen starts to utilize the solid designs they are already coming up with for other markets. For the US market they have really leaned into the department store model which tends to overlook pieces like this.
I find this attitude confusing: Modulo what's legal where, the whole world is one market. If Citizen don't sell a watch where you are, why not just order it from a seller in another country? (Sincere question.)
In Germany they've been sold out at almost all Retailers in about two weeks. The other dial colours are still available, but the yellow one, sheeeesh.
@@TeddyBaldassarre This or Timex Marlin?
@@name-bearbeiten I'm waiting for a UK release. Haven't heard anything but maybe it's out over here and I've just not come across it.
I just bought this today, it’s way better in person, that dial is beautiful.👌
Hey nice video, just bought one with a green dial after watching this, a beautiful classy watch. Citizen does not miss.
I wish that they'd make an ecodrive version of the watch. It'd be a fantastic grab and go and be a true contender to the Quartz PRX.
I would have bought it the first time I saw it if it were eco drive
So this watch or the quartz prx?
@@fark69 mind blowingly stupid decision by citizen, I'm fascinated by what kind of crack they were on when they were deciding
They have an eco drive that looks almost identical to it
@@steveny8071model #?
Mine just arrived today! Great recommendation Teddy!❤
Decided to go with the white quartz Tissot PRX (the only quartz in my collection), and the Citizen Tsuyosa Tiffany blue NJ0151-88M (was after the yellow one since the start, however when I saw the Tiffany blue ....) . Love them both.
Great video as always Teddy.
Where did you purchase the Tiffany blue Tsuyosa? I’ve been trying to get my hands on it. Or the yellow
Can't decide between the Tiffany blue or yellow
Ive been periodically visiting the citizen website just to look at this watch and make sure I still like it. The yellow dial is nothing short of stunning and it’s certainly on my pick up list.
Link to purchase this watch? Can't find it on the citizen website.
Citizen hasn’t posted it to their N.A. Site yet, so if you want one you’ll have to find it on the secondary market. eBay has a ton.
Ah ok thank you
@@hangtime26 no problem
This channel and wrist watch revival got me diving head first into the watch hobby...😂. Before I never batted an eye when it came to watches but now I cant help myself from looking at people's wrist when I pass them by to see if I recognize any watches.. help meee
Same here😭
Looks great! I don’t normally like a bright colored dial but this is sweet!
I just received my Citizen Tsuyosa in the same color. Was surprised to see that it does indeed hack. I googled it and apparently newer Miyota 82 series have this feature. 👍
I bought this watch and it’s an incredible watch . It’s very classy upscale watch . I ❤ it .
Ugh would love a 38 or 36mm version of this. Love the presidential bracelet and simple dial
Cool watch. I like how the color shifts according to the light.
Great review Teddy. Not a fan of the yellow dial color but considering what you are getting for $300, the Tsuyosa is a great value.
FWIW: Due to delivery bottlenecks, Citizen has partially installed the (superior) 8215 movement without advertising it much. In particular, watches produced in late 22 and early 23 indeed DO have hacking.
Mine says 8210, still has hacking. Got scared it was fake for a second
@@rony95321 they all do. Citizen changed the movement without declaring it. Mine says 8210 also. Still loving it ❤️
Useless feature for 99% of people
@@matyasd007 Nahh, you are thinking that it's not important for you, and that's fair. But don't mistake yourself for 99% of people.
how does the miyota 8322 stack up against the 8210 movement?
Absolutely love my new yellow tsuyosa, fits me great as a smaller wristed guy
I have one in the black dial. I love it as a daily driver. +7 to +12 per day, mitigated when leaving crown up at night. The clasp is pretty bad but the bracelet looks great and looks a lot more expensive than it really it is.
why crown up at night?
The yellow is so cool and happy. So much cooler than the moon swatch!
Copped the black dial. Clean looking watch. It’s my daily rite now.
Good review. Thanks
I've just bought 2 of the prx blue and green dial they are absolutely beautiful watches I recommend any1 to pick up 1 of these, they look great on the wrist
I bought this exact watch. It is a masterpiece. It is beautiful to look at, the color of the dial as well as the angles and the finish are top rate. The only complaint is the clasp, it works well but for a few more dollars I would like to see a superior clasp.
😂
Just bought the Yellow. The yellow face is metallic and the bracellet is smooth. I bought it because my fave color is yellow. This watch looks way better in hand and people stare at my wrist alot 😁👍🏾
These are easily available at authorised dealers here in Austria. The yellow really does stand out. I actually prefer the stamped clasp as it is thinner, more comfortable and does not stick out like the more bulky clasps are. Thin does not mean lack of quality. I have fifty year old watches with thin light bracelets and they still function perfectly
The clasp on this watch is absolute junk.
@@whereRbearsTeethwhy? Are you speaking from owning the watch?
I purchased this one for my B day, it's out for delivery today. I'm so excited to add to my watch collection.
How is it? Thinking about getting one
Thanks Teddy ♥️🇬🇧been hill for the last few weeks been watching your channel keeping my mind normal love watches thanks 👍
i have an incoming in green. pretty much stoked about it
have this watch, with the green dial really like it! and it does have hacking by the way on mine anyway. solid build and would definitely consider citizen again but looking for a swiss watch next!
Have been tracking this for a couple of months and finally got the white dial model NJ0150-81A. Your comparison with Rolex is spot on, that was what caught my attention with this timepiece. I'd have loved even more a stainless movement with a skeletonized winder, 10 BAR WR, and the crown at 3 o'clock
also ordered a white one. i may buy the ice blue one when it will be available for msrp here
With the recent Seiko QC issues, i'd choose Citizen any day over Seiko. the design, spec and price is just perfection. this model definitely needs to be released for international market rather than just some Asian market.
Another reason to buy at a dealer not some guy online
Thank you for the review Teddy beautiful watch a nice comparison to the Automatic PRX. I recently purchased the Casio Edifice EFB-108D-7AV after watching a review comparing it to the PRX quartz. When you have an opportunity have a look. Thanks again
I also got the yellow one and I absolutely love it
First of all, NJ0151 is out. New color. I own this in the white face (ordered from Singapore for $300) and the Tissot prx powermatic 80. Love them both. But this one catches more attention because even my American watch nerds don’t know about it. Truly a unique watch for the price point. They should have released these stateside in response to the PRX release.
I recently bought the one with yellow dial and I was pleasantly surprised that it has hacking.
I found out that the ones that were produced earlier in fact did not have hacking, but the newest one does.
Another great video! Appreciate your work, man. Quick question. In your opinion would you go with this watch over the Seiko SRPG27 or Seiko SPE57? Similar price range ish.
Haven’t tried either one yet but it looks like Citizen is going to make a significant dent in the PRX market. Especially once it is released to the North American market.😊I think this is the first yellow dial watch I’m seriously considering picking up.❤
Just had a closeup look at one of these in a local store to me ...very nice.
Solid simplicity. I like it.
Thank you for this review. Any chance that you can do a video on the rest of the range?
I just ordered mine in Yellow a couple of days ago.
Interestingly enough, it seems that there are versions with and without hacking around.
Been a subscriber for last 3 years this is the only watch I’ve held before you😂
It was quite the wait to get my hands on one of these here in India. The Citizen store here prominently advertised it, yet had none in stock for months on end. It was only 3 months ago that I chanced upon one and jumped at the opportunity to get it, and at a discount at that. It's a great fit and I look forward to the day I get a PRX to complement it with.
I saw them on discount in pretty much every watch store in India and in the airport just a few months back...
how much?
how much you got it for?
@@navmotorsports I bought it on tata cliq for 32k
I snapped the green version of this for £220 in London. I actually for a Seiko 5 SKX from the store for around £250, so could bargain a bit on this piece. Looks great so far. Don't know such kind of discounts on watches are possible. New to watches.
I have this exact watch ony wrist right now. It is a clean accurate watch
It's gorgeous and great value.
I love the watch, just got one today.
They've been available in Europe for several months now. Sold (out) pretty fast everywhere. Nearly no stock atm. And there are only four colors (green, yellow, black and blue) here. I think the American market is pretty comparable. It will sell there very well as well.
Btw. From Asia you can get an ice blue one. I have it and love it. You can also get a two tone, a camouflage, a fumé blue and a red dial in gold case and bracelet.
I bought mine a week ago on Amazon. Im also from EU ;)
@@TheCatchKa back in stock :)
bought this a month ago in blue, i have to say i freaking love it
Hi Teddy, I found one at 309 !!!! on ebay love it, thanks for the suggestion !
I think the citizen NB1050 would be the watch you should be talking about Teddy. It's more refined , has hacking, better dial, smoother sweep and you can swap out the bracelet with a leather strap if you don't like the included metal bracelet.
its a completely different watch though
Still more comparable to PRX price wise & arguably a better watch.
I 100% agree with this, the NB1050 is a far superior watch with a better movement. They need to release this one with an integrated bracelet, (or even a titanium option).. These cheap models are just a cash grab, hypetrain thing.
‘Tis a sunny boi, this one here
I've replaced the clasp with a solid one. It feels much better now.
Worn it for a while, a nice, fresh summer watch.
The yellow seriously pops
happy new year Teddy
Interesting Teddy, though I'd have weighed a different Citizen to the PRX. Namely the NB6010-81L Serie 8. Both mechanical, angular bracelets though the series 8 case is using an angular design language... similar prices (mechanical PRX). Both very modern, with elements of 70s retro. Both divisive too (love em or hate em). Its all good!!
Hey Teddy, this has had its movement updated. It now includes hacking and hand winding. If you buy the watch now it'll have the updated movement instead of the previous version when it was exclusive to Asia.
This is true. Picked it up here in the US and it does indeed have hacking
That dial is amazing.
ive been wanting one for a while now!
It looks nice and easy to replace the clasp, so that's not a worry for me.
cool, I didn't even know about this. I just ordered one
I tried the yellow one, it's a really nice watch. It looks great.
I just bought the yellow version today, Teddy, and mine DOES hack. Miyota have upgraded their 82xx movements and the latest version does hack now 😁👍🏽
I got 8210 in mine NJ0100-46L.. Its a movement from 1974.
I got mine just before Christmas, in Germany, and mine also has a second stop. Due to the high demand, Citizen has installed a movement higher without marking it.
I saw this on sale in Vietnam for around £200 brand new. Really nice watch, even if I didn't pick it up.
I got the ice/tiffany blue color. It’s so lovely. I like it more than my dark green prx powermatic80
For $300 it’s a great deal for a Summer-time watch👍
Good review 👍
Hope Citizen will also offer it with the smoother highbeat 9015 movement, which would also allow them to make it thinner.
Ditto
Is the 9 thinner? I thought they were basically the same movement with a different main spring
Agreed. Eco drive I'd also like to see. Miyota should retire the 8000 series it sucks
happy holidays, hope yours is going well
