Apparently he told Selena & Chris not to see each other anymore & Selena yelled back at him, Chris tried to calm the situation but Abraham snapped at him & called him a "cancer in my family" & that's when Chris argued back.
He loved her so much and she loved him so much. Their love was so pure and sweet. I read that after Selena was murdered, Chris started drinking heavily and doing drugs. He married again and had a child but the marriage didn't last long. Selena and Chris were meant for each other and I believe they'll be reunited in heaven when his time comes. True love lives on forever, even when one of the people in that relationship has departed.

@@chile_en_nogada2090 Watched the whole thing. Idk Selena anymore from the show than this movie tho, in fact ik her even less. She basically was only there to sing, change her style, and didn't have a bit of development or conflict until Chris came along. I certainly know EVERYONE ELSE tho. Why not just call it the Selena: The Quintanillas Series or something and keep it real 🤷? They used Selena's legacy as a backdrop to push narratives all about themselves and that disgusts me.
If I had to pick between singing and being famous but perhaps never finding true love again, or finding true love and losing my singing career, you bet your ass I'd walk out of that bus in a milisecond.
Doesn't matter bc eventually she wised up and went and got her man and eloped. I'm glad she did bc they unknowingly was going to only have a very short time together.
It wasnt about being rich and famous. Selena k ew that she was the voice for so many Mexican Americans. Her fans really looked up to her. She was and still is our role model. She didn't want to abandon her fans, even if it meant possibly losing the love of her life. It wasn't about the money. It was about being that light for her people.
After a while, I finally get it. Parents can't control their children their whole lives or decide what's best for them when they become 18. Even though Abraham was just worried about Selena, he had to let her go and grow up at some point. To be quite honest, she's old enough to make her own decisions since she's over 18. This part was pretty sad for selena. Being a controlling parent can affect a child real bad. Selena didn't deserve to get her heart broken. In general, no one does. Abraham's Point: Just because Selena is legally an adult doesn't mean he's retired from worrying about his daughter. Selena's Point: I'm legally an adult, you can't control who I can or can't love. I'm old enough and free to make my own choices now.
It is! The scene was supposed to be dramatic but it felt like it was almost played for humor (with the way it was cut and focused on the outsiders watching). Then had the audacity to end the season there like they did something 🙄
Our latino dads can be very intimidating.. my parents are from Ecuador and I am the youngest. No matter how older I got, i was still too young. It don't matter if it was a bum musician or Bill Gates wanting to date me. My dad has yelled at me just like that, telling me at 20yrs old that i am too young. My parents aint play, no means no and i just wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend. Of course I would lie and say he's just a friend but i completely understand why she ran off and got married. Some parents are extremely too stubborn and it takes this for a parent to understand.
I must say that this is one of the best scene of the film... They're a veeeeeeeeery talented actors/actress... I can understand Selena's dad's anger because it's just natural for a dad to protect his dear daughter from a rock star who's often known as a bad and disrespectful guy... Especially, this scene is not long after Selena and her family discovered that Chris' band are wrecking up a hotel room which made her dad think that Chris is no different than any typical bad boy/rock star... And because it's common that if getting married in a very young age is vulnerable to get divorce, due to an unpreparedness for almost everything in life... But thank God that Chris successfully proved his seriousness with Selena by never ever cheated on her all her life, even cried and heavily devastated when Selena died... Even he's still in touch with his late wife's family, the Quintanillas, until today even though he's already married again...

I think he recked the room to blow off some of the anger. Because here he is loving this girl seemly out of his league his friend telling him o her father won't accept the relationship because of who you are etc.
How is he threatening to “disband” the group when he’s not the talent? I wish Selena would’ve known that she didn’t need her father, his approval or the band. :(
@@TheStepmonkey doesn’t matter. The world is full of song writers and people that play instruments. Selena was the indispensable one in the group, not her brother or the other band members. Why you think they have not had a hit since she’s died?
@@mspennyisaac They haven’t had a hit since she past away because the band obviously disbanded when she passed. Selena LOVED her family, she would’ve never done her music if her brother wasn’t producing her music or her sister behind her on the drums. It’s true that Selena was the most valuable and indispensable of the group but I understand her point of view as well. It’s very obvious Selena couldn’t have made it by herself as her dad was the one who pushed her into the star she is now and her brother was the one who made her hits. I do agree though that her dad was in the wrong here.
@@mspennyisaac I would have to disagree. It’s kinda like how Freddy mercury was more popular with queen than as a solo artist. He needed queen and queen needed him. Just like them, Selena needed them and they need Selena. Now, A.B. Quintanilla has had hits but it was with kumbia kings so it doesn’t really count
She had the strength to not let her father or anybody take away her happiness given to her from a man she desired with her whole heart. Selena will forever and eternity be amazing! R.I.P. Selena 💙🌹
I feel like he’s yelling at me every time during this scene 😂.. the dads reaction on the new series cannot compare though during this part when he found out they were together.
@koolaidria208 Yeah this scene scared me as a kid. I DO agree that Selena was too young to get married at 20. And that waiting a few years is ideal. But that doesn’t justify Abraham treating Chris the way he did. Nothing wrong with Selena dating someone (she was an adult) as long as he respected and treated her right (Which Chris did).
I think part of the reality was...Abraham saw Selena as a goldmine and she knew that and to have a man love who she really was meant more to her than a 6-figure paycheck and a perfect physique...
Suzanne Wagner; Maybe but Abraham was also protective of his young daughter as my parent was of me at that age. In the end though the father was thankful that his daughter got to love and be loved by a wonderful guy like Chris. Both A.B. and Suzzette publicly thanked Chris for loving their sis and being there for her.
And they don't even give him credit he could of rejected Chris as his son in law but after they got married he accepted him and did not hold anger and bitter towards him (well while she was alive) I really don't know about now
The problem with old fashioned parents is they are obsessed jealous over their daughters. Makes no sense and til this day my mother says i won't understand until i have my own kids. No man will be good enough for your daughter. Plus once she's married half of that money is legally his. Abraham did not want any of that. I'm glad Selena eloped. She was happy.
I can’t imagine what actually happened when they were in this situation.. I’m happy she got married behind her fathers back .. she fought for love .. I’m happy she found love before she was taken from us ..
She’s aged is just that most of her photos are photoshopped and she has a good makeup artist and her hair is always dyed can’t see her grays . Saw her on despierta America on Univision she didn’t look bad but she didn’t look youthful either
Chris said Abraham called him a cancer in the family. Wow. Abraham was something else but he soon came to accept Chris. He might as well bc Chris wasn't going anywhere anytime soon that's for sure, probably never if Selena had anything to do with it. Lol. Both she and her father was stubborn and would often have disagreements according to Chris's book. But hey, its family. We all have our good times and not so good times. The movie is great but for me the book is a lot better bc its based on so much that the movie doesn't tell. I have them both by the way.☺ Rip angel 💝💝💝💝
That tells you something doesn't it? It was sugar-coated for the movie since it's told from the family's point of view. @@Diana-zl3ue , yes! I agree. She was such a lovely woman who sang so beautifully, and her family members added so much to the great music. There was simply not enough time.
The sad truth is, Selena only married him at a young age (21) to force her dad to accept him. Even Chris thought the marriage thing was too fast (even though he loved her). If Abraham wasn’t so harsh on him, I’m sure Selena would have waited a few years (like her late 20s or early 30s) to marry Chris.
Look and compare this scene with the Netflix series, in this one you can see a person fighting for her love and someone with character, not someone saying "Stop dad, dad not please, stop daddy", the worst of the Netflix series was the love story of Selena and Chris, and the character of Selena. According to the memoirs of her husband Chris, this is what happened. In the series they made their story wrong, apart from that for many it is a bit boring, and that they do not resemble the real ones.
Jair Portillo Yeah She could've just easily went solo why put pressure on her he's going to disband the group just because Selena wanted to date Poor Selena but she did it her way and I'm proud of her for that.
Tonya Sims Well it was his baby girl no matter the business. He had big dreams for her. Yeah he may have been living his own dreams through his kids but Abraham did and still loves them. I don't agree with his antics but he did come to accept Chris and saw that he was a great guy for his daughter after all. Abraham is a control freak and he and SELENA always butted heads. I'm just glad she was loved and loved in return that's all. Rip
@@saiyongdawn7756 "he did come to accept Chris and saw that he was a great guy". He accepted Chris in his family because he had no choice when they got married, but Abraham never really "saw that he was a great guy". He despised Chris at the time and despises him to this day. It's a father wanting to protect his daughter (that's what a father should do), it's okay having big dreams for her, but what he did was just insane!
@@CanalMichaelJacksonI stand corrected. According to Chris braham said it himself on one occasion that his hopes for his daughter was that she married a guy he says 'in her own league' someone who was distinguished and well off. She was the one who would have to live with the 'guy'. 😁
When he yelled “that’s it! you’re fired!” Did you guys notice how hard Selena and Chris flinched and how much they moved lol. They got hella scared, he yells so suddenly 😂. You can even see their neck muscles pop out because they were so shocked😂.
What’s sad is that it was her sister Suzette who ousted them to Abraham smh. Wish they would’ve portrayed this in the movie, or even in the new series (BIG 👎👎 to the series btw). But we all know Selena’s family is obsessed with making themselves look flawless so of course not. Selena, Chris, and her momma are the only humble ones. Everyone read Chris’ book “To Selena, With Love”
EXACTLY! They lied about how it happened in the movie and series. It just seems like a disservice to what really happened in order to save their image. -.-
It’s honestly soo sad all her family got to live their lives and be happy and married and they frowned upon her and Chris. Even her sister was dating someone and was happy but tried to tear her and Chris apart. Like why couldn’t she be happy to. Just selfish ungrateful people. Who controlled her.
LadyJ 22 yes it was suzette who told Abraham they were in the bus just Selena and Chris and she saw them they weren’t doing anything everybody in the band knew about it except the dad she got upset seeing them together and suzette had a crush on Chris at the time
Man, I remember seeing this for the first time as a kid and how _angry_ I got at this scene. I just kept thinking, “She’s an adult! Who are they to tell her who she can or can not be with?!”.
I love the way the actors did this scene. Abraham is of course furious and yelling, Chris is keeping a calm tone trying to difuse the situation, making it clear that he loves her. and of course Selena is yelling right back to defend her man like a queen
I can tell by people’s comments here on UA-cam that they have hatred toward Abraham and comparing him to Joe Jackson, the father of the Jackson family, who was very strict, demanding and abusive towards his kids. And I understand that people are entitled to their own opinions. But Abraham has said in an interview a few years after Selena’s death that he did regret of getting his kids involved in the music business. Because he knew that there will be serious consequences such as sensationalism and the tabloids (both English and Spanish). But I can tell that Abraham Quintanilla did the best he could to be a great father to his kids and protecting them and being a loving husband to Marcela. He sets a great example of what it takes for a man to be a great father and provide love and guidance to his children. The world needs more people like Abraham Quintanilla. On the other hand, too many fathers are missing, too many fathers are M.I.A., too many fathers are A.W.O.L.
Frijolero Man79 selena's father wasn't like joe jackson. There is nothing wrong with protecting your daughter from getting in a relationship that you don't think is right for her. But chris really loved her. They were born for each other.
And he even said that he regrets that they felt forced to elope... he was a good father and wanted what was best for his children... unfortunately what we think is best for others is not always what's best. Had they not elope she probably would of never experience a love like this... and they were going strong there after. She made the right choice for herself in this regard
God JLo is so beautiful here. In my eyes, I don’t think she ever looked as good as she does in this movie. And she did do a pretty damn good job on trying to nail the essence Selena had.
Watching this on her birthday Selena and Chris really had an amazing and beautiful love story chris loved her like no other man and Selena really fought for their love ❤️ ❤️😍😭
Abraham shouldn’t have judged and discriminated Chris for being a rock artist and assuming that all punk rock artists were “bad people”. Especially since Abraham himself faced discrimination in the 60s (racially) when him and his band tried to audition at that all-white club but got denied for being a Mexican group.
im glad they didnt stop seeing each other cs of abraham, her time was cut short, at least she was happily married to chris after all these arguments with her father
Abraham says "Give yourself some time". We know she didn't have much time left in her life. This is a perfect example on why I personally feel that it is better to focus on the present more than the future.
Still makes me wonder if she knew about her time of death, would she be able to prevent it from happening or she’d make the best time of her life before her death
@MonsterFlame1 I actually agree with Abraham in the sense that Selena was a little too young to get married. Waiting a few years would have been ideal. But that doesn’t mean he had the right to treat Chris the way he did and try to ruin their relationship. Selena was 20 and an adult! Nothing wrong with her having a boyfriend, as long as he respects and treats her right!
Chris is a pretty chill person. Saw several interviews with him. In one, he stated that he and Selena were opposites in the fact that she had such an outgoing personality and he is more reserved. He's always quite calm.
@wanibenedith5757 Chris was and still is a naturally calm and soft spoken person. It wasn’t until he met Selena and her family that he began feeling comfortable enough to open up.

I do too on my Chris
So strong that she cheated on him.😥
Armando Espinoza how do you know?
@@Talkinglam0 I dont know about all that.. The only thing I can think that comes even close to the realms of cheating. would be when Chris says in his book.. To Selena With Love.. That when they had their kiss on the plane in chapter 1 he was technically still in a relationship with his then girlfriend at the time so she may have cheated WITH chris while he was still in a relationship but more him than her.. because for all we know she might not even been aware he had someone at that time. Would it have changed anything? Made a difference? who knows? But either way one undeniable truth whatever problems they had or didn't they loved each other that still carries to this day however flawed or wonderfully its still a Love that stood the test of time.

1:40 Chris and Selenas reaction to Abraham was genuine. They were actually startled when he yelled, so I read.
That’s exactly how my sister and I felt when it comes to one or both our parents shouted/yelled at us
It’s really scary
And nobody talks about how sweet and adorable Chris was to give Selena that little present. What was it? A cute bunny plush toy?
Most parents would be happy that their daughter was dating a guy who treated them the way Chris treated Selena.
My guess is he didn't let it rip until they actually started filming so their getting startled would totally be real.
@QuietlyCurious yeah most likely. They probably had it in the script but of course the director is gonna want a little extra for the actual take
The actor who plays Abraham in the Selena Netflix series is good but wow Olmos acted the hell out of this scene! This scene cant be topped
Olmos was so great of playing Abraham Quintanilla.
This scene alone should have gotten Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos an Oscar nominations.
A best picture nomination too
Jennifer Lopez did get a award playing Selena
He wouldn’t have stood a chance between Jack Nicholson and Hellen Hunt.

That's okay, I can make my own way!
Especially since she's 20 and a full adult..he has no right to decide or control who she loves.
I’m just here to compre this scene to the one from the Netflix series. This one is so much better.

Yes the series one was very toned down
I agree.. plus jlo portrayed Selena a whole lot better! In looks wise and personality wise.. no disrespect to the girl who played Selena on Netflix

Selena’s dad wasn’t first generation he was tejano not a Mexican first generation.
Cindy Villacis , some dads are TOO CRAZY, especially when they try to control their beautiful daughters!
Very typical within Mexican household
I must say that this is one of the best scene of the film... They're a
veeeeeeeeery talented actors/actress...

How is he threatening to “disband” the group when he’s not the talent? I wish Selena would’ve known that she didn’t need her father, his approval or the band. :(
Well actually the success of Selena is thanks to the whole band, especially her brother cause he was the one who composed her most famous songs.
@koolaidria208
Yeah this scene scared me as a kid. I DO agree that Selena was too young to get married at 20. And that waiting a few years is ideal. But that doesn’t justify Abraham treating Chris the way he did. Nothing wrong with Selena dating someone (she was an adult) as long as he respected and treated her right (Which Chris did).
This scene hits hard!!!!! Been there and understand 😩😩
Edward Olmos should've won an Oscar just for this scene alone.

Jessie Walker That's nice! 😊☺

I can tell by people’s comments here on UA-cam that they have hatred toward Abraham and comparing him to Joe
Jackson, the father of the Jackson family, who was very strict, demanding and abusive towards his kids. And I
understand that people are entitled to their own opinions.
No one talks about Chris being involved in a hotel room wreckage. This was a huge red flag for Abraham.

Damn, he roarin like a lion!
Is so sad & hard to watch baby face Chris be yelled like that when all he done was love Selena 😞
I feel bad for Chris because his father in law was bad to him.

I actually agree with Abraham in the sense that Selena was a little too young to get married. Waiting a few years would have been ideal. But that doesn’t mean he had the right to treat Chris the way he did and try to ruin their relationship. Selena was 20 and an adult! Nothing wrong with her having a boyfriend, as long as he respects and treats her right!
I miss Selena 😢 I cried this was hard to watch during the movie
I can’t believe Chris was so calm in the scene while Selena’s dad was yelling at him. Do you think he was this calm in real life?
He was very calm till he left as he said in his book
Chris said that it was much more worse than the movie
Chris is a pretty chill person. Saw several interviews with him. In one, he stated that he and Selena were opposites in the fact that she had such an outgoing personality and he is more reserved. He's always quite calm.

Chris was and still is a naturally calm and soft spoken person. It wasn’t until he met Selena and her family that he began feeling comfortable enough to open up.
She defended him I love it
