I was working in law enforcement and on foot patrol that day. my partner and i happened to be walking by and she asks do you think my butt looks big..while looking at us...she smiled and laughed. we were embarrassed and couldn't even respond...we just smiled back. she was like royalty....and and the same time so very genuine. that moment was priceless and i've had the opportunity to meet famous people from all around the world. none could hold a candle to her.
I had the privilege to meet her in the summer of 90 in San Antonio. I was at the top The Towers of America throwing coins off the top with my friends (like an idiot) when I turned around and saw her give me a big smile and giggle with her friends. R.I.P. Selena. Gone but never forgotten.

She was only shot once in the back and bled to death because Yolanda berated her out of a jealous rage. Yolanda neglectfully failed to administer aid or call the paramedics which both could have saved her life.

It's such a shame what happened to her. She really bridged the gap between American, and Latino cultures.
I often wonder if she had made it to the late 90s what might have been... I am not really sure because the Mark Anthonys, Ricky Martins, Jennifer Lopez's, Enrique Iglesias's... etc all had to produce a complete different sound to make it to mainstream American market and radio... and really other than Mark Anthony none of them are really good singers like Selena. This ballad and the other one (I could fall in love?) were spot on for the mid 90s AC radio, but with Selena's real roots in TexMex I just dont know where this would have led (years later even Shakira had to dye her hair blonde and change her sound drastically)...

I remember exactly what I was doing when I heard Selena passed away. It was a shock. She was scheduled to come to McAllen to perform and I was going to see her in person for the first time. It never happened. What she would have become if not for the tragedy. I miss you Selena.

I was at school here in Texas and getting ready to go home. I knew who Selena was and loved her music. My mom told me in the car when she picked me up. I thought at first it was some sick joke by the press and researched more info about it but didn't have to look far as it was all over the news. We were both heartbroken. Selena would never perform again. She should have never been killed. It's such a tragedy as she was seriously young and still had so much ahead of her!

I was 7, playing in the kitchen with my fire truck, pretending the tile grout lines were street lanes, my mother was in the living room watching the news, then I heard the tragedy, I clearly remember feeling a rush of sadness and then I just started crying, my mother ran to me and asked “ay mijo, apoco la querías tanto?” And I nodded yes, and she held me tight. I cry every time I see her performances. 😞😞😞
