Love this breakdown. The line, “we all think we are doing it right until we realize we aren’t” resonates hard with me. It takes a lot of focus and self reflection to up your boatside game.
@@MattVavrochFishing I think some youtube channels try to idealize how perfect musky fishing is, only showing the catches of big fish and never showing the real world. But for the majority of us it's the opposite, we lose more than we catch and we're happy with 40" fish. Just trying to be real here.
This is a great video. It’s refreshing because it shows to good, the bad and the ugly. Being new to the Muskie game, there are so many nuances to catching them.
Thanks Phil! Appreciate you always tuning in! We're trying to share our experience and hope it helps at least one musky angler out there, if so that's a win for all of us!
@@54orbust all I know is your helping me and I’ve been musky fishing over 35 years so can’t imagine how much your helping others. thanks for all the time and high quality effort.
Great video, thanks! My big musky last year was a Figure 8 strike. I was able to remain calm, like you mentioned, and my hooks were sharp and I got her. I definitely have a lot to learn and that will come from experience, but learning from your videos is great too.
Yea I really gotta get better at the boatside, I have a tendency to give up on a cast when there's a weed or my bait is fouled and I've seen a bunch of examples of fish hitting with weeds on a bait or hooks fouled. I also gotta get faster in the 8 when a fish is engaged, too often I think I slow down instead of speeding up and taking the bait away from a fish. But that's why we go, to get the next time right hahaha
Yeah, we all gotta get better at the boat. We always think we are going the right speed etc.. It's easy to get caught in the moment. I fish with a few guys that go nuts when there is a fish at the boat. The 54 or Bust crew try not to get too wound up when we have a fish at the boat. But like the video shows, we make plenty of mistakes
@@54orbust yea that's exactly it some people get waaaay too amped up to me that's the hardest type of people to fish with. Im out there to have fun, just working a fish at the boat is an amazing experience. I think some people forget we're out here to have fun. For me the thing I like most is when people catch big fish but have a ton of fun in the boat
@@54orbust That would be amazing! Man you're not kidding about being hard to find. Just came home from the Milwaukee Musky show and couldn't find any. Searched the internet far & wide and nothing. Please keep us updated. Thanks again!
Hey Alex K, thanks for watching! All depends on the fish, but generally speaking if you can get the fish to follow past the first turn if you speed up and make your second turn and slightly slow up and "hang" the bait in the outside of the second turn, that's usually the best shot at a fish. After the second turn you usually have to add some depth changes and more speed changes to get a strike. Good luck!
Missed a big girl because I never had my leader tight to my my rod top! .... slack got in the line on the second turn .... blades quit and off she goes!! heart breaker

I think everyone thinks they are doing things right, until you see someone doing it better.
It's a constant learning game.
@@54orbust I really like how you point out how from time to time even when everything goes right they still can get off. Musky are magicians lol.
