Hugs Sophia! It broke my heart to see tears in your eyes talking about your journey. You are right, everyone is different and we ALL are on a personal journey. No one can judge another. Big hugs! ❤
Great job Sofia! I am 75 and at a different season of life and doing massive decluttering so that my sons do not have that burden when that time comes. It’s amazing the stuff we hold on to, but it was important at the time. I’m really struggling with all the family photos! Thankfully my granddaughter likes vintage and willing to take that stuff!
Wow, you have come a way, Sophia! I have a big old metal file cabinet. I do like your boxes, and the thought that you can easily take them with you if you need to do so, I have thought to get a low wooden filing cabinet, so it looks nicer. I have to store it in the living room, and it would be nice to have a pleasant view. I will have to consider shelves and boxes as you got, as I think they are nice looking, convenient and easy to manage. While watching your video, I got started on some of our papers.
This is so funny, I did exactly this during lockdown in 2020 when I couldn't work for 6 months. I got the exact filing boxes except mine are black. I have three, one for any personal papers, one for work papers (I'm a teacher), and one for sentimental papers like stuff from college I can't seem to part with or stuff like my late grandmother's birth certificate. Works really well for us! I can always find what I am looking for now.
I’m the same way, Sophia! I like areas like that to be visually uniform and appealing as it lessens anxiety! That way, in the areas where we do want our eclectic decor, these other areas aren’t competing and it’s easier on the eye and makes the things we DO wish to gaze upon and enjoy stand out as a source of beauty instead of a bunch of stuff competing against each other. It looks GREAT! Nice work, as always! 🙌
Great work Sophia! I have our files in a portable box very similar to what you have. We love it and it is very convenient. You have done an amazing job in your organization journey. I remember your old videos when you would open a bag/box/drawer and always say “oh look, more pens” 😂 just like everything else in life, finding an organization system that works for you is a journey. And we are allowed to change our preferences! Love you and all your videos! I am so happy for you that your mom will be coming to visit and have an extended stay.
Another job well done! I truly admire you! You really looked so put together at the beginning with your hair and makeup. You have such cute dimples, you're such a beautiful lady Sophia! For doing all that work even building a new shelf you didn't care to have to look perfect on camera like some others do. I love all of the changes and I hope Scott will think more of letting go of some of his clutter after he sees what you did! Love you bunches Janet from NH
It looks great! I do have two suggestions, for what it’s worth. 1) Edward is old enough to learn to manage his own important documents, so you can probably give him his own box to keep in his room, teach him what he need to keep and why, and help him figure out his own organization system. 2) Get those scrapbook albums out of the closet! You worked hard on them and they have precious memories, so give them a place of honor in your home where family and friends can go through them and appreciate them, instead of keeping them hidden away :)
Please, Edward lost his wallet twice since January and the albums are 12 x 12, they re too big to go anywhere in the 1st floor. In hindsight, I should have made them 8.5 x 11.
Your closet looks GREAT!!! Good job Sophia!!! I never did like those metal file cabinets because the drawers always eventually got bent by opening and closing them and overloading the space. Yours are the best solution ever!! Thankyou for sharing your organizing process and for the link to these boxes. Love all your videos because I always learn something new! Thankyou for all your hard work!
Good job as always Sofia yes it’s important to keep original copies of all our private stuff . I just said the same thing to my daughter she was looking for her immunization records and we found them but I couldn’t until I remembered I gave her her baby book awhile ago and she had them in a tote ❤️
Love the final pictures of the fully organized closet. So streamlined and clearly labeled. This system should serve you well for many years to come. I could really use something like this for my important papers and everything that's necessary to keep the hard copy.
Hi Sophia - in the U.K. it is recommended to keep important documents in a fire proof safe. I have a small portable safe for important documentation that’s easy to carry in an emergency.
The closet looks fabulous! Just gorgeous! Am in love with those cloth blue bins. They go so well with the room. Very classy. I'm the same way Sophia. I like everything tucked away too. You did a marvelous job.
I wasn't at all surprised about the great reviews when you were an instructor. You could teach at an insurance seminar and I would be enthralled! LOL I have years worth of stuff just like that. I still re-read great comments and appreciation-type things and it brings me joy. I have a 4 ft metal file cabinet in my office at home and I like those boxes so much better. Great idea! Hugs!💕
I have a storage ottoman in my den, in front of the couch. It fits the metal rack for hanging files in it, and that’s where our paperwork goes. I store some large envelopes, clipboard, etc in there too. I have to keep it decluttered because only so much fits. Sometimes I think about changing to binders instead of file folders, but I would still keep them in there. I also would like to get something fireproof for birth certificates, etc, but I would want it to still fit inside of the ottoman. My bill paying stuff and office products are kept in a separate box with a lid and hand holds. I am convinced that the major reason this system works is because I am a Type A person and love to organize and declutter.
Fantastic results. Just when u said u didn't like the way the other shelves looked I thought order more boxes. They look good storing your stuff. Happy mother's day
I’ve been going crazy today looking for 2 things I can’t find for the life of me. It drives me crazy snd happens far too often. Decluttering is so freeing! So while I’m looking for the 2 things …. I’ve been decluttering. I have to say when you’re frustrated, it’s easy to toss useless stuff. Thanks for your inspiring channel!
I think you need a fire box for the birth certificates, death certificates passports, Social Security cards, and Diplomas. Those things should be easy to replace but they can be a pain in the keister. For instance. Our daughter was born at home, the house has been demolished and the street renamed. We tried to get a few more copies but Hawaii's systems have been upgraded and they lost five years worth of micro fish and she was born during that time period. We had to send them a notarized copy
Your desk looks amazing! I love it when we find an organization system that works for us. I believe you found it with your document's boxes as well 🥰 thanks for sharing
It looks amazing will all the same boxes! My picky self loves the continuity! Lol! You’ve inspired me to tackle some of my excessive paperwork this weekend! Nicer weather is also giving me a kick in my butt to continue on the purge, organize, clean and paint mission for my home. Thanks so much Sophia!!
Great job. I'm dreading doing my grandma's papers, you can find papers dated in the 1920s, it'll be a lot of work. At home, we have two expandable folders for all family and house related papers, and I go throw them every other year to have only what we need. It'll be easy if all the writing stuff be in the same place, if you have the pens in the first drawer of the nightstand the pencils'd be in the same spot.
Paper declutter has to be my least favorite. So many papers that you have to go through and touch each and everyone. But, very satisfying once your down. I have a file cabinet, but I'm considering switching to a system like yours. Looks nicer and makes sense!!! Great job, Sophia!!
Sophia, This was very satisfying. I love your idea of making your papers portable. And as you say, much easier to find specific items. Love the boxes you chose. We have the same organizing style. Cheers
Love the blue boxes. I need to buy some of those. All my paperwork is tossed in an ottoman and when I need to find something it is a mess. Thanks for the ideas
I did this years ago after coming to the same conclusion. I now have 1 plastic file box that holds mostly taxes and household purchases. I have a fire safe that I keep my marriage license, birth certificates and social security cards etc.
Haha the ole filing cabinets. I got rid of mine a few years ago and felt relieved it was out. I like your blue boxes, very soothing to look at. Great luck for you Scott’s nightstand fits! Closet looks great. It’s amazing few years later how much we can still purge.
I had an issue on my SS - discrepancy with a couple of years when I was half Indiana/half Ohio and Ohio had not reported info. I still had all my taxes and W-2's since I began working so was able to provide them with the documentation. So glad the issue arose before I shredded all my stuff. I don't remember receiving the SS statements prior to the past few years to compare.
How funny, I was cleaning in the office and your video came on as I was listening to youtube while decluttering and you were also decluttering the office.
I think it's great a great system. I keep my most important documents like birth certificate, licenses etc in a fire box. Your closet looks great. I love it.
You're doing a great job! Much better than my mother inlaw. They moved into a smaller home last week. My father in law wanted to get rid of a lot of things, but she has a lot of accent furniture and home decor items. I thought she would get rid of them, but she actually kept them and the new place is crowded and ofcourse feels smaller.
I am trying to get my file cabinets organized and after watching your video, I've decided to go a different route! I hate my metal filing cabinets, and now I'm "inspired" to try something different. I plan to order some sort of fireproof, waterproof type of briefcase that can be picked up and go with me (us) if need be. Thanks for this post!
Your organizing style seems to be a “bee” (from Clutterbug here on UA-cam). Bees love their stuff, find it hard to get rid of things, and like to compartmentalize. You’re right-people have different organizing styles, and you have to find the style that works for you.
Being organized also helps in the case that your children or someone else will have to find important documents. I've made sure my parents made me aware of their important files in case they are hospitalized or pass away and we need to find them. I know it isn't what we want to think about but it is a reality sometimes. Since the unexpected death of my son we have thought about some things differently than we used to.
Sophia, Great video! I like the filing system you created. It's simple yet efficient. I like the boxes and the extra shelf you install. I think its a good idea to add as many shelves as possible. I will be borrowing your new system, since I have a file cabinet and an office closet I need to organize. Thanks ❤
Fabulous job!! I've been wanting to get rid of our two drawer file cabinet. Close to only needing one box like you just used instead. Yes, pared down that much!!
I keep a tote bag by my door with important papers, some cash as a grab and go. In an emergency ie., fire you can’t see to look for and carry a box. But, if you have a fabric tote it’s light weighted and you designate a spot by your door either your bedroom or exit door you can just grab it and run!
I'm the same as you Sophia. All my things have to be in a a particular way. Ppl laugh but my canned goods even has to be turned the same way and in a line. but you ( I think understand why) so I don't have to go through everything just to find a can of beans or corn or a box of mac n cheese. Dont get me started about my towels. I'm thrilled to know someone else compartmentalizes their things. I'm interested to know if you do this to everything or just certain thing like paperwork?? Thank you for everything you do. You show it all.
I'm the same way sometimes I feel I'm like that guy in Sleeping with the Enemy movie. Even my silverware has to be stacked perfectly in their compartments. Even in the dishwasher my silverware has to be from small to large spoons then forks in their separate spots so when I take them out it's easier to stack them in the drawer. Ok there's more and you can call me crazy lol!! Janet from NH
Wow you just brought back memories of me visiting mom in Normandy by myself and the movie came on and we watched it together in her bed. It s a really good movie. But I am ok with towels being imperfect. I never liked their home. I used to serve her when I was a waitress in NY. She is tiny and super quiet. She feels like she is made of thin glass.
Hugs Sophia! It broke my heart to see tears in your eyes talking about your journey.

I keep all the really important documents in a fire/water proof safe. It’s heavy but I can still carry it to the car in an emergency.
Sophia, you are our instructor now!🙏🏻🌸

Get a Sentry fireproof box with lock for important original paperwork !
Looks good Sophia. That night stand was the ticket!

Wow great job. I love your new boxes. They are practical and visually appealing. So much better than the file cabinet.
I remember you counting all those pens! Great job!
It looks fab with the new boxes and Yes! I remember all the pens and pencils over the past 7 years I’ve been watching your videos ! Xx
Happy Mother’s Day Sophia! You’re one of the best mothers dear. God bless you, Jean from Arizona ⛰🌴🐍🌞🌻🌵🦂🦎
Thank you Jean. Happy mother's Day!
I am a visual organizer. I like clear boxes. If it’s hidden I forget about it.

I hate clear containers too. May as well just stack it on a shelf. I love your dark boxes. So neat and orderly looking.
HAHA!!! I've watched you go through all the office stages, so funny & you asking if your ?!% is showing-----lol. Love the way it looks now, best yet.
The boxes look so much better than the filing cabinet. Great job Sophia.
Your desk looks amazing! I love it when we find an organization system that works for us. I believe you found it with your document's boxes as well 🥰 thanks for sharing
Vintage, LOL! Thank you always for the great motivation.
Loving the way the blue boxes look. 💙 It’s wonderful to see everything so organized. I love all your projects! 😁
I see the reasoning behind periodic look throughs of spaces used for storage.
Looking good but you need a fire proof box for birth certificates, passports, etc.
Thank you so much for this video, I am starting tomorrow on my office. First thing in the Morning.
A seven person house and we have one file cabinet that is waterproof and fireproof!! Go through this every year.

Thank you for answering the question how long to keep tax records! I needed to know! We have taxes back to 1990
Depends on your situation-normally 7 years.
Looks great and I am, once again motivated by your awesomeness. :) Thank you.
Boxes look fabulous I may do this for my important things

I did this years ago after coming to the same conclusion. I now have 1 plastic file box that holds mostly taxes and household purchases. I have a fire safe that I keep my marriage license, birth certificates and social security cards etc.
Looks great, Sophia!🥰
Love your progress! Those blue file boxes look great!

Hi Sophia, I prefer the boxes vs the filing cabinet. I got rid of my filing cabinet a few years ago. Great video as always.
I do too! Thank you.

Very nice
Thank you. I need this today. I’m so overwhelmed. I’ll get there 🙂
Love the boxes you have inspired me to do this with our paperwork. 😘
Oh good. I think it s the best this closet has looked in 12 years@
Enjoy your videos and your organising style. I like my 2 drawer filing cabinet. It is old, oak with brass fittings.
New boxes all the way!
Very nice and I got some really good ideas from watching
Thank you so much!
Great video.i have a filing cabinet which i need to declutter. It's full. I don't have any space for boxes. Yours look amazing xx

That would not work for me. I would forget it s there and it a a guarantee I would move it.
Thanks so much for this video 😊 I need to do this too 🤪 really like your ideas 💡 😀 Hope you have a wonderful mother's day weekend 💜💜💜
Love the new boxes and makes sense. I am working on doing the same thing 😁👍🏻
Hi Sophia! Wondering if you painted your office a different shade of blue? It's very pretty.
No it s the same.
I'm the same as you Sophia. All my things have to be in a a particular way. Ppl laugh but my canned goods even has to be turned the same way and in a line. but you ( I think understand why) so I don't have to go through everything just to find a can of beans or corn or a box of mac n cheese. I'm interested to know if you do this to everything or just certain thing like paperwork??
Thank you for everything you do. You show it all.
I am starting to do that for other things but I don t have much room to work with.
I'm the same way sometimes I feel I'm like that guy in Sleeping with the Enemy movie. Even my silverware has to be stacked perfectly in their compartments. Wow you just brought back memories of me visiting mom in Normandy by myself and the movie came on and we watched it together in her bed. It s a really good movie. great video! i have a bright yellow file cabinet, lol that has to be decluttered, oh my
Looks great! So appealing to the eye! Thanks for sharing!
Love this video. Wouldn't the metal be safer in case of a fire?. I do however like those boxes.
closet looks great!
We're recommended to keep all files in a fireproof box here in the UK for safety
I have a fireproof box for birth certificates, passports, social security cards, car titles, etc.
Love them
Great work Sophia
Great job on the closet! Someone else may have asked- what is that gorgeous paint brand and color?
The blue? It s behr "Ahoy"

Cass from Clutterbug has just done a new video where she breaks down the types of organisational styles , one style does not fitall
I think Sofia is a bee-loves her stuff, hard to get rid of things, and likes to compartmentalize.
