As a Yorkshireman from Sheffield I'd like to attest to the accuracy of this game. A standard trip home from t'pub usually ends with me having killed several hundred carnivorous rabbits.

I like to imagine that all of Yahtzee's games take place in the same universe. So while the protagonist of Consuming Shadow is trying to stop horrors from beyond, Derek Badger is shooting rabbits in the underworld.
since we won't have the ego review until yahtzee makes another game maybe he could do a let's create where he loads up game maker and makes crude sample games while taking about his experiences making the games he made while talking about tips and common pitfalls newer developers fall into.
klimpomp That actually makes me think. I'd really like to see what Yahtzee could do with a decent asset pack. It's a given that the weakest part of his games is the art, if he could have an asset pack as a foundation to work from I bet he could create something really cool.

+Matthew Walton This is an old game, probably made before he started Zero Punctuation. Also it's much easier to see the flaws in someone elses work than it is to see the flaws in your own work.

Like how the moral ending makes sense and meshes with the rest of the story.
I've played Poacher several times over the years and I kind of love it. I like the story being told and the level design and the sense of humor and the simple but skillful gameplay. A couple of the boss fights are things that I think could be tweaked a bit to shift the balance between "fun and challenging" and "frustrating with cheap shots from the enemy," and maybe put thought into more upgrades that will actually be useful, but those are the only real major things I can think to change. If Yahtzee put out a sequel (or rather a spiritual sequel, at least, since Derrick's journey with Rebecca has more or less concluded) on Steam in the same style and tone, I'd pay for it.
I have enjoy a lot of your content and I realized you deserve some kind of compensation, so I paused the video and go to purchase The Consuming Shadow on steam, that's a sincere thanks for all the hours of entertaining you have provide me and hopefully the ones to come. I watched the start, but wanted to try and beat it without spoiling everything, but half way through it now and yep - I can't be arsed, it is merciless. I'll just watch Yahtzee beat it.
I believe that's because of the collision in the sprites being precise. If yahtzee had used a box for the collision that was larger than the sprite by a good amount it would probably be better.
You might be able to salvage the old save if you have 'Previous Versions' enabled. Just open up an old version of the gamefolder by right-click -> properties -> previous versions and dig up the full save.
Gameplay is the best reward for side missions and whatnot, but it's even better when it has some context like a self contained little story that fits with the overall theme of the game.
39:30 This is basically what gabe says here. "You know what? I respect women! I love women! I respect them so much that I completely stay away from them!" XDDD
The title card sequence in this game is awesome. "Something's moving, shoot it with Z! Now shoot more things, in different ways." Then when you're having a hilarious time shooting all the bunnies into gibs, P-O-A-C-H-E-R scrolls across the screen with you. That's fuckin'... pretty great.
Just a note, Yahtzee, you might wanna consider updating the game to a newer Game Maker executable. It doesn't work for me on newer versions of Windows, it crashes roughly around the time the Shellosaurs show up.
If you still ever even check on this channel Yhatz, the Oil rig is a cheater's field day, you can phase through black oil streams while post damage immune, quickest tablet piece I've gotten.
Re-watching this years later, I realize none of the comments that can be easily scrolled answer the Shenmue pronunciation question fully. I'll go ahead then, for the sake of any wandering viewers. It's pronounced the way they make fun of. The "e" at the end was because the makers thought it'd be easier for english speakers to figure out the pronunciation that way. The makers both didn't understand english (the fact that long "u" is usually "yoo" not "oo") and underestimated the knowledge of japanese pronunciation among english speakers.
I tried playing this game because I love Metroidvanias but it crashes 100% of the time when I throw a grenade at the blue armoured guy at 25:47 . Not sure how to get around that as you can't shoot it dead. Too bad, I was having fun with it... :/
