  • I cross into Colorado alongside the last winter storm of the season, making for a couple days of walking through fresh snow. It's a thrill to be in the mountains after six weeks in the desert. I cross the high plateaus and skeleton forests of the South San Juan Wilderness, and once the fresh snow melts there is not much left. I take the opportunity to climb a handful of twelve- and thirteen-thousand-foot peaks that sit along the Divide, including the aptly named Long Trek Mountain. The last day takes me over Alberta Peak and out to Wolf Creek Pass, where I hitch into Pagosa Springs.

Good job climbing the peaks! I ran into Cutie multiple times in the country just before that...those two valleys you drop into after steep(ish) snow descents.

Hey buddy! Nice videos and happy trails:)
What is your perspective on comparison to “south San Juan, weminuche, and Sawatch? Which is the prettiest? Most rugged? The toughest? Etc… thanks for your time!

Thanks for watching! They each have their own character, but the Weminuche Wilderness is the most remote and rugged part of Colorado. If I had to pick one area, there is the most there to be explored.

The San Juan’s are so awesome! I climbed in the late 70s, Wetterhorn, Handies, Redcloud, Sunrise and Uncompaghre,

Excellent! I've climbed those peaks as well. Wetterhorn is especially beautiful.
