Scouting South San Juan Wilderness by Horse Back

- A horse back scouting trip into the South San Juan Wilderness area of Colorado. We were planning another pack trip into this area and decided to scout the area out in late fall. The trees were in all their glory of color. We scouted Elk Creek Trail to the second meadow and Duck Lake Trails. The fall colors did not disappoint us, we will return for a much longer pack trip next summer.

Fall is my favorite time of year to ride! Beautiful colors, cooler temps and less biting insects.
I’m an old man from New Orleans and I grew up in the 1950s. All the kids I played with wanted to grow up and be cowboys. Not the Hollywood version on TV but the working kind of cowboy. Riding horses on the wide open prairie on a cattle drive sounded like a great life. Yes, I know it’s a hard life sometimes but anything worth doing has to come with a price.
This video is at least as close as I can get now and I am grateful to settle for it.
Thanks for sharing your video and letting me dream a little.
Have hiked this trail to Second Meadow and to Duck Lake. Very beautiful country! God blessed us with this awesome part of Colorado
schöne aufnahmen, schöner tripp,,,den sich so nur sehr wenige menschen leisten können,,,dass, was mal notwendig war, ist heute luxus...
That was definitely a good color year in Colorado....But, 2021 fall was the best I've seen in my 67 years here. I've not hiked in that area - looks good. I mostly play in the northern San Juans - I'm from Montrose. Another great video - thanks for sharin!
This year, the fall of 2022 up Rock Creek was the most beautiful I've seen in quite a while.
Great fall colors. You hit it just right for the aspen. Great trip. I will look that area up
fantastic video....As a Horseman I dont think people realize how much work goes into trips like this and all the gear. I once did a pack trip into the Bob marshall With smoke elser. They were great days back then. Keep the videos coming hope yur all doing well.
Well said!
Stunning! Thank you 🙏
Thank you too!
Espetáculo de natureza.
Thanks for watching
I immediately recognized the dispersed camping area in the first scene before your video even showed the trail sign. You fellas have some fine looking horses! I'm not a horse person any more (grew up on them though) but my wife is with four of her own and she would love this kind of ride (well so would I too). I always wonder if the horses enjoy a trip like this as much as we do. Something tells me they do. I spend some time each summer fly fishing the Conejos and my plan for this (2020) summer is to backpack in to 2nd meadows for a few days of fly fishing. Thanks for the beautiful, spectacular Fall scenery and colors. I thoroughly enjoyed it! This video will help me plan and daydream about my summer visit to Colorado. Hope to see you on the Elk Creek Trail in 2020 should our plans coincide.
Hey fellas, I love this kind of stuff and am about your age. Let me know when you do your next ride/pack I'd love to go! Got two horses of my own with lots of mountain/hunting experience.
Glad you enjoyed video. Starting to plan future trips for this year. Always looking for rides to come along. Where are you located. I am in south central Colorado and in Pinedale Wyoming. Let me know if we can get together. Email. Horsecamp27@gmail.co

what a beautiful way of life! share more about it please!
I've ridden these trails many times, and usually pack in and camp. Come to think of it, I have my own videos of these trails on UA-cam.
Wow!! Great fall colors..here in North Dakota has turned to winter colors uhh meaning no color 🤣😊 TY for the ride 😊

The only thing that would make it better would be to know that in that beautiful wilderness a few elusive grizzly bears still lived. The South San Juan's have plenty of room for a small number of grizzlies, and knowing they are there would make everything wilder. A few could be relocated from Wyoming or Montana.
Juan.
Could have been a GREAT video BUT even when they had recorded beautiful natural sound of horses crossing a bridge or birds singing as the wind rustled the leaves in the trees it was ruined with unnecessary annoying guitar overdubs. WHY?
