- In this video I will show you guys how to fix any davinci resolve render issues such as freezing, crashing, slow rendering or glitches after your render. After watching this video I guarantee that you will be able to successfully render your video with no errors or crashes.

For those who can't see the red bar, go to playback settings in the top and change Render Cache to user

I did all this and got the red bar. The blue bar started across...then, stopped about a quarter of the way. How to fix that?

The tip is to check "Use render cached images" on the deliver page. This tip is more of a workaround than a fix. The main issue is that if your cached footage settings are lower quality than your desired output settings then you just played yourself. The manual gives the same warning: "Use render cached images: When this checkbox is turned on, DaVinci Resolve will write media from the cache to the files being output to save time. If you’re caching using the same media format you’re outputting to (or better), this can be convenient. However, if you’re caching in a lower-quality format than the one you’re outputting to, you’ll want to turn this checkbox off to force DaVinci Resolve to process all media as it’s being rendered, writing at the maximum quality you’re outputting to."
I appreciate your comment, before doing the steps in tutorial I double checked that the render cache is on highest quality, then I obtained the desired output.

How do you tell what quality your cache is making?
I was about to comment the same thing! In the end, if your render cache is on highest quality, then you'll end up waiting ages WHILE editing. Not that great..!

Btw, if anyone is still experiencing this issue after all the fixes in the video: Try to make a new project, render a random video (doesnt matter how long) close it, and then open the project you wanted to fix again. After that it mysteriously started working again for me.

Render was freezing at different times on 4 different attempts. Worked the first time after following these steps. Great advice!
You saved me. I have had a project of 75 minutes with a little heavy grading on it. I waited to reneder cache about 60 minutes then to render on file just 6 minutes ( 280-290 fps ). Thank you very much for this tutorial!!!🍻🍻🍻

Thank you. The first time I tried it Davinci crashed during the pre render. But then I created a tiny project, 30s clip, and rendered that successfully. Went back and did the pre render again and everything worked. Thanks for the tip.
Does this work for Studio? I don't see any red-line when I put it into compound and Render Cache Color Output, so I don't know if I play it in the preview of render page, that it's done or not.

I am experiencing crashes and lags while editing I have a free version of 17.4 using Intel GPU quarter play back and even optimized media. Adding any simple effects transition etc slows down the computer to snail and crashes sometimes. Any advice?
Yo bro what if the redline isn't showing up what do we do Bec my redline used to show up more but since I got resolve 18 it hasn't really done that as much but does it only sometimes
Have you used proxy media while making one compound clip? Dnw but some of the clips in the final render are not sharp even though the input media was.
Honestly the Only UA-camr that actually deserves 1 million subs and likes! Thanks brother, this way fixed an issue when I try to smooth out a slow motion using 30 fps video by using Optical Flow at Enhanced Better option.
hey do you think you can help me i seem to have an issue nobody else has ever had before and its causing my davinci resolve to crash every single time with no error or nothing. it does seem to crash in the same spot on the timeline though but i’ve tried so many different videos, even yours where i thought it would work and it hasn’t. any feedback would help me so much. thank you

Just after your help If you can tell what's the best setting to render for UA-cam because I did the same setting that you have 3840 x 2160 ultra HD and it Takes 1 and half days to upload to youtube

@needforbeans, Why I get "Media Offline" when I use this method, and always at 90% percent rendering part?
I am pretty sure it would work wonderfully if it could get to 100% rendering.
DUDE!!!! YOU-ARE-THE-BEST!!!!! I have been struggling with this problem for DAYS! Going to bed at 1,2,3 o'clock in the morning, after having been up ALL day fighting with Resolve and my computer. On your render cache format did you leave it at uncompressed 10 bit or did you change it? Thanks!

Super super helpful, truly. Question though: how long did it take your pre render bar to be completely blue? Mine is hardly progressing, if at all
The first time I did this I converted just the video clips to a compound clip, as it shows in the instructions. It successfully rendered the video but there was no audio. The second time I converted both the video and the audio to a compound clip and it failed to render. Maybe I need to convert the video and audio to separate compound clips. Any ideas?

I don't seem to be geting the blu red render bar, nothing seems to happen but when I right click the compound clip the render color is ticked.
Ok fixed it, had to enable render cache in a setting at the top first.
By god this is an awful way to do it. I tried this method and it filled up my hard drive, but the blue line kept going so I waited another hour for the render and it just came out red. Deleted a 120GB of trash folders in my downloads folder. Tried it again, got most of the way before the dam hard drive filled up again. The source videos I was trying to merge only added up to 2gb, what the fuckity fuck is the caching doing that costs that much space?
Why can't resolve just fucking work? It's one job that everyone needs it to do is render a dam fucking video.
Hi, I’m using davinci resolve 18 and when I selected “Render cache colour output” on my compound clip, a red bar didn’t appear above the clip so I could let the clip play in the “deliver” section. I was wondering why that is happening?

Don't suppose you know if this still works when one of the audio tracks is linked to the main video (i.e. original recording of my game capture also had the game audio and mic audio on it) - would i need to split out that audio for this technique to work?

Does is work of the clip is 8 hours long? I can't seem to select the entire duration of the video.
Thank you, finally something that fixed my crashing.
there are mates like my, whose clip get stuck on 1 specific frame, here is solution-
render that problem part manually (chose render to user mode, instead of smart, then play that specific part 3-4 times, no need to render whole video)
then go to export tab, and tick choose render cache settings. hit export and problem fixed.
remember, that no red line should be there on problem part.

Hmmm, I don't get any red bar OR blue bar? It shows that the compound clip was created, but no red bar appears. I went to delivery tab anyway but no bars appear there either.

How did you get your project to stay on one frame during rendering
What if the red bar is just "sitting" there? I'm editing a video that is super simple, no special effects of anything. It's a 45 minute video and it ha the red line and it's gonna take TWO HOURS to render. Now even 4 hour long videos I've edited before have taken that long, there was no red or blue bar, tho. So this red bar just appeared now and I don't know where it's coming from or how to fix it??

Time said 45minutes to render, I looked 45min later and it was 4hrs and still going up!!! and I Only added 4-5 simple Transitions on this music video, No color grade. 🥵 This save me literally. Took 5 minutes to render out. THANK YOU!
