coincidentally just updated my drivers yesterday, and suddenly davinci would crash the instant I tried to preview any footage. It all makes sense now. Thanks

I had the exact same problem, however it costed me several hours and half dozen PC lockups to realise and remember that I updated display drivers.
I had issues at first because this vid is a bit older when I watched it. But when I went into the GeForce Experience, I clicked on the 3 dots to the right of "check for drivers" and .... there it was. A studio driver. One I didn't even know existed till this video and my determination to make RESOLVE FREAKIN' WORK!! It is SUCH a pain to get my Let's Play channel up to date if my editor isn't working properly... Thank you for the vid!!
It worked for me thanks!! Was trying to render a 10 minute video in 4K 60fps (h265) and it couldn’t get over 50-70% but now it works flawlessly 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Those "Studio drivers" are apparently optimized for Davinci Resolve 16 (Free + Studio), and are way more stable than the "Game ready" ones I've previously installed, I didn't even know they existed before seeing your video, thanks a lot!

(the NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of windows. the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. can you please help with this?? earlier today i turned off 1 of 2 graphics cards, (the smallest of the 2) as to improve Davinci from crashing during rendering, something i learnt from watching trouble shooting videos today? could that be the issue? please help me. ive been at the 12h :(
This instantly solved my problem, Resolve always got stuck and crashed after about 5 seconds in the interface. The Studio Driver seems to work. Thanks!!
After I spent days watching tutorials to solve these issues, I decided to upgrade my graphics card and SOLVED! if you have a cheap one don't expect to perform well. Trust me.

My laptop had built-in intel hd graphics. In da vinci -> preferences -> use Graphic card.

You sir, just helped me out a lot! My pc is far over the task of editing videos and after a new Driver update for games, my pc just completly froze so I had to manually restart it everytime. I never knew there was a Studio Driver and I can finally go back to editing, thanks again!

I have a online membership where I provide weekly painting videos to members. I bought a new laptop that was supposed to be great for video editing only to find that not only was I constantly getting critical errors with DaVinci Resolve, when I opened the program back up not only were my changes gone but all the projects I had been working on were gone and not in my back up file. I made the update you suggested and so far I have not had any more issues. Thank you!!!

So I tried your advice but with NO LUCK. I still cant get through a render without it crashing at some random point during the render. NVidia says their STUDIO driver is not compatible with windows 10. According to windows, I have an NVidia GTX 950.

My issue had NOTHING to do with the driver. I had my auto save set for 5 minutes. I would commonly save right before beginning a render. My first crash would happen about 5 minutes later. Since I noticed the pattern and turned off autosave & live save, I've had no more crashing.
I AM DESPERATE. I HAVE PROBLEMS WITH DAVINCI AND DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG!! I tried to contact the Davinci support and have no answer. I was editing the video and when was time to render the app just close itself and. I tried to render and it doesn't work. With Quick Export it Exports the files but are impossible to open and also IMPOSSIBLE to upload on UA-cam. Meanwhile all the savings of the cache and backups double themselves and suddenly occupy all my computer memory and I formatted it twice!! Help me please I'm getting crazy!!!

**IMPORTANT** This didn't work for me, the solution I've come up with if this doesn't work is as follows, when rendering videos minimize Davinci Resolve since I've been doing this I haven't had a single rendering crash before I was crashing every single render.

@chris watkins, thank you this solved all my problems on the altest 2021 Windwos and Geforce updates. i had only the Gam ready driver, after seeing your video i used gefroce experience to install the Studio drivers now resolve 16 works again like a charm. thanks a lot!

Thanks Chris! I just got my razer studio OLED laptop with RTX 2080 MaxQ graphics. I installed the latest studio drivers and am using content creation mode. But still my DaVinci Resolve 16 Studio freezes every time I open and start doing something. Any thing else you think I should do?
We had an issue where the program would stop allowing me to scrub or play the timeline after an edit without restarting the program. This fixed it for Resolve 15 today! Thanks!

Thank you so much, I just noticed my NVIDIA was in the middle of downloading the driver when I shut it down. When I opened it back, the process was paused and it was the reason.
Hey a little off topic but I'm having a issue I'm having a hard time solving. Idk if I hit a setting but get this. You know the orange bar that you you drag back and forth to line up clips. Whenever I now drag a clip instead of stopping against it, lining up with it, I doesn't. This makes lining up clips together much harder. I know this is off topic but I'd much appreciate a explanation.
i dont think this works with resolve 17, its saying it doesn't support CUDA 11.0 or something which I was using to make resolve run faster, it's still laggy :/
I had a problem with resolve 15 crashing whenever I used the mouse for skimming on a any clip in my timeline.... I got so frustrated trying to find the solution I gave up on resolve.... some time went by and I decided to give it another go and after Downloading version 16.1 I haven’t had the same issue and I’m waiting for it but so far so good. I think it might have been because the clips I was using were unpacked from an unfinished Final Cut Pro Project and May have been optimized by Final Cut Pro X for Final Cut Pro X...

but like i already have the newest drivers so i dont think it will be good for my gaming experience to go and download a older driver or does this just ad on?

i dont know how you own a pc capable of editing on and yet dont know to check your gpu drivers as the first fix to any issue. i wish that was the problem. i worked on something 3 weeks ago everything was fine went to do something today and it freezes after a minute of work.

okay so i did this and when i go to download it and when it opens up the download software it says the NVIDIA Installer cannot continue because it says its not compatible with this version of windows. and i have the latest driver update and everything is up to date... Can someone help?

Unfortunately my Radeon driver is up to date. I've used Adobe for over ten years and just switched over to using Resolve about three months ago and in that time it's crashed more than Photoshop/Premiere/After Effects have in ten years, combined. I'm hanging on though because when Resolve doesn't crash it's better than anything else.
I have the nvidea gtx 970 and it did not load the studio driver. It showed error message and won't load that driver.
I just installed Da Vinci Resolve today and just started using it. I did not even import media yet and just tried adding generator and it shut off immediately. My laptop is Lenovo Ideapad 320S-13IKB. I don’t know what’s wrong. Please help.

Hi, I've got Resolve Studio 16.2.3.15 (latest)
I've got no issues with playback, but resolve just randomly crashes for some reason... especially when i just play through the timeline at 2x or 4x speed. I've asked on the forum but no response. Please help me :(

I'd really appreciate a help with Da vinci Resolve crashing when rendering. Basically the percentage counter stops. Can't change window panel, but the remaining time is going up and up. The processor is working on around 30% constantly, until I stop the rendering and memory around 3600M. then I have to kill the process in task manager (if I can...). I have 8 giga ram, and a Geforce 1660 card, and with my previous computer I had no issue, it was much less powerful... can it be a timeline issue? that I put 4k and 1080p videos in the same video? Tried stuffs already:
- studio driver install (Nvidia)
- 50 and 25% rendering speed
- use render cache image
- CUDA GPU processing mode (instead of auto)
- untick Stop renders when a frame or clip cannot be processed (UI Settings)
I even repoisitioned the videos, it does not always stop at the same percentage if I make some modification, but around 20-26%.
-Tried using different timeline settings.

Thank you, so, much. This did the trick. You don't know how many videos I went through before I found yours. I have a Titan X (pascal). My Nvidia driver started not responding and the Microsoft graphics driver kicked in every time. Then as I was trying to troubleshoot the Nvidia problem, a major window update came up. So, hoping that that would help, I updated windows. It did, the Nvidia graphics driver was working again. But then, I needed to edit a video and wam! I couldn't get Resolve to work. Took me about two hours of watching similar videos that did nothing to help me out, until I found yours. Thank You.

Nvidia studio driver says that it doesn't work with a 1660 super on the supported devices page, should it still work or not? (it does say that the normal 1660 works so does the 1660 ti)

i just keep getting "the gpu failed to perform image processing because of an error" and then playback stops working. it happens whenever i try dragging things onto the timeline like my text or clips
i have the same issue, did this still happened after installing studio driver?
@@cult2 yeah and i haven't been able to fix it since. i eventually had to just switch off of resolve to another program
ok so mine works flawlessly. my resolve problems same like the one youre having now. now went away, it fixed it

Thanks it seemed to help for DR 17 Beta but started crashing again a few minutes later for me. It only crashes for me when Zooming into a clip and panning; usually when moving up and down. (Desktop Windows 10, R7 3800x, 32gb 3200mhz RAM, RTX 2070s)

I couldn't find the studio driver on the NVIDIA download page - it was buried under the game driver - had to click open to find it cuz it is not in sight - I've had no issues with it

I had that game experience, or something similar, and it is just annoying - every time I am doing some graphics, it pop up and changing something. Don't want to get back there.
Yep that was it!!. It also changed one of my drivers, and had to reset the sound driver. I'm using VoiceMeeter, so I had some extra steps I had to go through.

It's pretty sad this keeps happening to people including myself (a noob to Davinci) Many of times I'll start a video to render before I go to bed just to wake up and find it crashed under 15%-30%. Really hope updating Studio driver works, thank you

This solution worked for me but what I had to do was look up the most latest version of the studio driver, but otherwise thanks for the help!

Hello Chris, davinci resolves still keeps crashing even after I have downloaded studio driver. Is there another fix?
So i found out something interesting. Unfortunately, I'm not using a version of windows or video card that is supported by NVIDIA Studio Driver. However, when I installed the equivalent version of the GeForce driver, I had no issues with the software. May be a good tip to pass along to users who are in a similar boat.

@@meljenkins1016 I looked for the latest Nvidia Studio Driver that was available and notated the version. In this case for me, it was 442.19. Since my computer does not meet the requirements for that installation, I instead installed the GeForce driver version 442.19. This allowed me to use Resolve without it crashing everytime I load a video. Hope that helps.

@@roshnelvalme7006 I was about to ditch Davinci Resolve 16.2 when I saw your message. I had plenty of "GPU Memory Error", freezes & crashes. Even going into the Fusion Page in an empty project was a recipe for disaster. I did as you said and installed 442.19. No more hangs or errors for the last couple of hours! Thanks a lot!!!!
Well, mmm, after creating some Fusion Compound Clips the infamous "GPU Memory Full" message is back. Time to look for another NLE out there.

Hi. Not luck for me. I have a Gforce GTX 1050. But i get "you memory card is full" or "the GPU failed to perform image processing because of an error. error code 79. " Any ideas, pls. Thank you.
Moradas Verdes sounds like you might have a full hard drive? Have you checked where your media cache is stored?
Not my Nvidia, but it pointed my in the right direction - the failed install av the Nvidia driver that is. I needed new Geforce drivers, now it works again. Thanks alot for getting me up and running again :-)

Me too. I couldn't install the Nvidia studio but I noticed there was a Geforce update. Will let you know if this helped after I restart the computer and run Davinci for a day.
Note: Davinci was crashing mostly during fusion.
