My Makita is still to this day after 4 years flawless in performance after persistent heavy abuse. Where I worked we bought 5000 drills at a time. The DeWalts we tossed more than half in the first 6 months, over 90% by the end of the first year. We then bought 5000 Milwaukee drills, they did better mostly loosing their chucks, motors or triggers within a year and a half. We then got 5000 Makita LXT hammer drills, we replaced only 13% in the first year and a half, a long term contract was signed. I still have mine and abuse it today with it's original batteries, still flawless. With these sorts of statistics in my history, it's unlikely I'll get anything else. I did give Portercrapple a try, threw the drill and a rock, pissed me off, worst ever, even Harbor Freight is ten times the drill.
Great information, what drills were those?, when was the dewalts drills bought? when was the milwaukee drills bought? when was the makita drills bought?, because i have been following dewalt, milwakee and makita and about 10 years ago makita was the best milwakee was in the middle and dewalt was the last one in terms in quality, nowdays makitas quality has declined, dewalt has improved so much so id say makita and dewalt are almost even, their period of warranty confirms it, dewalt gives 3 years of warranty, makita just 1 year and milwaukee after being bought by the chinese it went downhill. thank you in advance for your answer, id appreciate it
I'll swear by Makita also! Great tools, vastly underrated, Milwaukee and Dewalt are awesome too, they do alot of advertising... But top pros know Makita is up there

At first their puppies that you question why you bothered then before you know it your going to work wondering if he's enjoying the station you left the radio on in the house.
My guess is the bearing misalignment was the cause, not the symptom, of that missing lamination. Imagine how fast that thing is going at top speed, and then that magnetic core smacks into it. Just think if that back piece gets tweaked even a little; All that plastique can't hold that rotor in EXACTLY the right place.
Don't those motors spin at 35,000 rpms when fully driven? To produce what, like 1800? 20:1-ish? At its lowest, it's motor is still spinning upwards of 200 rpms. Did the frequency of the knocking seem consistent with 200 whacks per minute?
mine got out of alignment after I dropped it. sounded whiny and didn't smell good. loosened the two screws on the back and found that the back plate has to be positioned perfectly and screws tightened up. been fine ever since. seems the clearance between stator and armature is tiny and the back plate doesn't locate accurately and firmly enough.
bigdbaldydom : Of course they try to make the clearance between stator and rotor as tight as possible to get as much torque as possible from the motor.
Dear AVE, I have found the same alignment issue with the older Makita impact drivers that were truly used and abused. I found that the indent where the back bearing goes to have been worn out too. I fixed the issue with some tape around the back bearing. The motor issue was not the case for the impact driver because the motor was brushed. Overall my makita tools have been super used and the only problem I have ever was this misalignment. Thank you for the great content! Keep it coming!
My parents have a lab who had a similar surgery. I saw pictures of his intestines. They were blocked by some mass. At the spot of blockage the intestine was swollen to 3 times it’s size and went from red color to black at the blocked area. They removed a part of it, stitched him up, and he lived for many more years until just a few months ago. Good pup. Good on you for not giving up on him
You are such a good person for paying your dog back for his unconditional love and loyalty, I'm a little liquored up at present but it brings up memories of my dog, if there was anything we could have done for him we would have but he was 16, smaller dog, we had the vet come to house, he was on my lap (I was certainly his favorite person and spent the most time with him) gave him a couple pieces of cheese to distract him from the first shot he was getting in rear, one to really relax him, almost knock him out and feel warm and fuzzy inside. My mom started crying over the fact that we could never give him anything tasty to eat besides his treats, we had the best dog ever, Jake, he had a liver shunt so it was really important to give him specific proper diet, I thought it was little cruel so I would always sneak him a little something tasty, I wouldn't expect you'd be happy eating the same thing for every meal of your life! If he got too much protein he'd get really sick, something to do with his liver issue, they didn't think he'd live past a year when he was diagnosed when we were looking to get him fixed, partly because of that he got to keep his balls and he lived to older than most dogs did, he would have lived longer but it wasn't a good life anymore, he was almost completely blind and deaf, he had arthritis and was limping for awhile until we got him meds, that fixed him up for awhile but he was still slow in his old age, had ramps to all of his favorite spots in the house because he couldn't jump anymore, he was still the most loving dog. Our whole family poured all the love we could muster into him, especially the day the vets came over, I think he had a really good life, nobody ever treated him with anger or contempt and he was such a happy guy. I felt really bad about it but he was in pain I think and he was just too tough and caring to make a big deal over it. Anyways I just wanted to salute you, your dog looks like a great friend.

it is possible that a larger chunk of material, got in while the motor was spinning and jammed between a lamination and the magnet of the rotor, it is a open motor with very little as far as screening and if its been cutting bricks or something really hard, it might do that.
It's funny how people (myself included) always find themselves saying things like "oh, they're just a pet". Then, when shit happens, you find yourself spending boatloads of cash on said "just a pet". In a world of uncaring people, pets seem to more than make that up with free loyalty and love.
Was just getting ready to peck out a comment on thanks for showing how you sniff out the problem etc, etc, and all that flew out the window when I saw ole buddy having a rest there. Hope he stays happy and keeps with it once he gets a bit better there. Stay well friend.

Had to look up the origins. From Wikipedia: "Hear, hear is an expression used as a short, repeated form of hear him. It represents a listener's agreement with the point being made by a speaker. "
I dropped my old makita drill 40ft onto concrete from a telephone pole. It did something very similar. I ended up loosening the pack cover and it was useable again. There was a crack through the plastic case. I used it to drill 3/4" 18" auger bits for about two years after before I finally dropped it again. This time the old fonzerelia didn't work. It was the old style with the three speed gear box. For the shit I put that drill through, I'd buy another in a heart beat. It was probably 3 years old when I dropped it, I ran her hard and wet for about 5 years total. It was a good drill.

Bit with the pup bout teared me up. There is literally nothing more sacred than the loyalty and love of a good dog. We owe them all we have for the unconditional affection and understanding they offer us.
glad he is healing up for you. We just this week lost our loyal family sidekick of 12 years to cancer. tough to get through. enjoy him while he's here.
Thank you for helping Buddy. Our pets are as much a part of the family as relatives, and most of the time much more. Could you PLEASE make a PSA for your channel about the twisted stomach issue to spread awareness and tips on how to prevent it. We lost a dear Shepard two years ago to the same condition, but even with immediate care, he didn't make it. Buddy is one lucky pup to have you as a dad.
Glad to see Buddy is doing alright! I've worked in the veterinary field for a few years now and a flipped stomach can turn out terribly. Thankfully I've never seen one recur after that surgery is done. I don't know if they explained what they do to prevent it from reoccurring but the surgery is interesting in how simple it is. They cut through to the tissue layer around the stomach and make an incision. Then they suture that tissue to the abdominal wall and the body naturally heals itself and creates basically a biological weld and keeps the stomach in place. Pretty neat stuff. Wishing Buddy a speedy recovery!
Thinking positive thoughts for your steady companion Buddy! Speedy recovery!! That was a great vijeo, but it's easily forgotten within seconds after view that last view tidbits. You are a kind soul. I am a firm believer that dogs sense sympathetic heart felt emotions from their owners. He knows you love him and are doing your best to heal him and providing comfort. You hurt too, because you love him deeply. Be well!
Best wishes for a rapid and healthful recovery for Buddy. My grandmother was an M.D., and die-hard fan of most large breed dogs (she referred to smaller breeds, especially Chihuahuas as "pipsqueaks that shit"). With the exception(s) of rabies vaccinations, and major surgeries, she doubled as our vet. When one of the males, at age seven, showed signs that his arthritis was becoming painful, she dosed him with "Empirin Compound #3", which made for one damn happy dog. Since 1971, we've had nothing but German Shepherds, and fed them only better quality dry foods, which contained no corn, or corn byproducts, and supplemented the dry with fully cooked ground beef, ground turkey, or ground mutton.. Above the 'footstool height' elevated food bowl, was a chalk board displaying the five feedings per day they (check mark acknowledging each feeding when completed). Smaller, but more numerous feedings place less stress on the digestive tract, with less chance of intussusception and gastric torsion.
Two fold. I have that Makita and love it. Everything from fasteners to drilling hardened metals. Second. I recently lost my dog to the same problem. 13.5 year old boxer lab.
Maybe not the same gut issue, but an old wives tale says the uphill swallow of the tall dog with the bowl on the floor can make the belly twist- I dont get it but my old english mastiff bubba got told to eat off the table.
Clarence Star i thought they got softer, but yeah, now i remember how when it dries out they get hard. Geuss all the oil comes out. Only raw birds for my dog.
Aw buddy. That last part hit me hard. I lost my dog to a torsion and complications on Wednesday. Couldn't go through with the surgery, just no way he'd come through it. Not the way I expecting to spend my day. Holding my breath a little till the end when it was clear he'd made it through surgery. Give him some love from me.
Here's to Buds swift recovery AvE. Lost my cat today, it's not easy. Got my labs keeping me company, we're lucky to have these guys. Hope this defect is an odd one out, that's my drill.
Ave, I had a flat coated retriever die from her stomach twisting. To be fair she died in surgery. Glad to see your buddy doing well! Keep scratching behind the ears.
AvE has gave me s habit to hit LIKE before his video even started. Well, when was the last time he didn't give us a solidly knowledgeable and fun experience watching? Never. AvE, you are a legend!
Best dog I ever had was a Great Dane. His stomach flipped when he was rather old and the vet suggested I put him down. Couldn't bring myself to do it and took him home instead. He was in a lot of pain and the vet seemed concerned about my decision. Two days later he was back on his feet and on the way back to normal. His stomach reversed itself somehow. The vet said he had never seen a Dane that was 12 years old and said 8-10 years was average. Bazil lived another year and died in my backyard with me and my dad at his side. One of the worst days of my life.
Your end credits are oddly relavant. I watched this to take my mind off my missing pup. After 5 hours of searching in the dark, I'm ready to find her already. Thanks brother
Playing devil's advocate a bit, a single broken lamination being broken off is really a hard thing to find when doing the QA Especially when it hasn't blown anything out yet. Though of course the proper thing from the company would be to offer to replace or refund the factory defective part.
shurdi3 I’m wondering if it may simply be the shell being a bit out of spec and thus impacting the inside of the motor and busting out the lamination. Or it could simply be a slightly different recipe of plastic that behaves again out of spec due to improper expansion rating when the tool gets hot. These plastic tools rely on the clamp-shell keeping everything in line so they are a super important part of the design and thus stacking tolerances must be maintained or the tool can smash itself apart. This is why Harbour Freight tools and Chinese off brands sometimes fail even when they often use the same sub assembly parts.
I'm all for taking care of your dog's diet but honestly I don't know how much is actually controllable. My little stinker gets an upset tummy from a flavor change in his food but will then drink milk my nephew spills to wash down the box of tampons he just ate and has no problems digesting that. Go figure.
Remember to put the other two halves together and sell it as a screaming deal like a proper scumbag.
Kijiji the shit out of 'er and put it up for $10 less than new! *I'll be a hundredair!*
Did you hear the sound it made? It really is a screaming deal.
Specially with a bum gearbox mated to a bad motor.

Wouldn't a side impact create an oval deformation, when " realigned" cause the de-lamination?
That's an excellent point! But why only one broken lamination and why no rubbing on the oval section?
Whats first to give out if the motor overheats? I guess the windings should but could the core take damage aswell?
There was rubbing on the next pole anti clockwise, any on the opposite pole?

I hope your dag feels better soon, his guest appearances make these videos awesome
Hope your dog feels better ave
Thinking positive thoughts for your steady companion Buddy! Speedy recovery!! That was a great vijeo, but it's easily forgotten within seconds after view that last view tidbits. You are a kind soul. I am a firm believer that dogs sense sympathetic heart felt emotions from their owners. He knows you love him and are doing your best to heal him and providing comfort. You hurt too, because you love him deeply. Be well!
"Buddy" will be around for a some great times!!
THANKS on his behalf, & thank YOU from someone who KNOWS taint never a better buddy!.
I admire your honesty as a fella & a family man. Love the vids fella. You’ve got a true handle on life & loved ones…tappy, tap tap!!!!
Get well soon doggo.
So glad you fixed both the drill and the good boy.
still the best cordless drill on the market. gotta expect a few duds in a million.
Sorry aboat yer pupper-doggo.
Two fold. I have that Makita and love it. Everything from fasteners to drilling hardened metals.
Second. I recently lost my dog to the same problem. 13.5 year old boxer lab.
Maybe not the same gut issue, but an old wives tale says the uphill swallow of the tall dog with the bowl on the floor can make the belly twist- I dont get it but my old english mastiff bubba got told to eat off the table.
bobwatters and I think they eat chicken and other bird bones in the wild too.
Jimmy's Tractor bones are more problematic when cooked, they chip and become needles. Regardless dont give any bones to dogs
Gastric torsion in dogs is commonly related to excessive gas in the stomach.
Clarence Star i thought they got softer, but yeah, now i remember how when it dries out they get hard. Geuss all the oil comes out. Only raw birds for my dog.

Had to put my golden down last year. I saw yours and and my heart skipped a beat. Glad he's ok.
AvE, Keep us up to date on the Pooch! Thanks
As a papa to 2 Labradors I now know why I like your style, love to your buddy
Hope buddy heals up quick! Twisted gut is no joke.
“I’ve been wrong before and I’ll be wrong again” show me another Tuber with the balls to say this and admit he’s not perfect.
Here's to Buds swift recovery AvE. Lost my cat today, it's not easy. Got my labs keeping me company, we're lucky to have these guys. Hope this defect is an odd one out, that's my drill.
Glad you were able to save the pooch... Get well little fella
I'm glad your old puppy is okay. You've got a big ol' heart.
Hope your pupperdog is feelin better soon.
losing a dog can be wrenching and nothing can fix it except time. Glad to see your guy made it through.
get well soon buddy
Ave, I had a flat coated retriever die from her stomach twisting. To be fair she died in surgery. Glad to see your buddy doing well! Keep scratching behind the ears.
Aw, get well soon Buddy!
AvE has gave me s habit to hit LIKE before his video even started. Well, when was the last time he didn't give us a solidly knowledgeable and fun experience watching? Never. AvE, you are a legend!
Give Buddy a good pettin' for me!
One of the worst days of my life.
and good luck with buddy there
Your end credits are oddly relavant. I watched this to take my mind off my missing pup. After 5 hours of searching in the dark, I'm ready to find her already. Thanks brother
Good dog. Very good boy.
I hope that your pupper is doing well. Nothing beats the unconditional love that we get from our canine besties!
Playing devil's advocate a bit, a single broken lamination being broken off is really a hard thing to find when doing the QA
Especially when it hasn't blown anything out yet.
I'll second that! It's reasonable that the misalignment caused the rotor to impact, and that one unlucky lamination took the brunt.
And get better, buddy! I know I'd go broke before calling quits on my pup.
bloat sucks, had it happen to one of our old dogs. glad you guys caught it in time.
If you're reading this... give Buddy a strip of bacon for me.
All food is bad for dogs. 100% of dogs have died after eating food. Just give it some time and they will all perish
I'm all for taking care of your dog's diet but honestly I don't know how much is actually controllable. My little stinker gets an upset tummy from a flavor change in his food but will then drink milk my nephew spills to wash down the box of tampons he just ate and has no problems digesting that. Go figure.
Okurka because kids?
@@littlebacchus216 my dog gets panceatitis from bacon. Very bad time for him.
@@littlebacchus216 you're right mate. Thanks for the kind words.
