Electricals are tidy with clean solder, metal gear train, smooth trigger with a boot, boards conformally coated, bigass motor, and it went together as easy as it came apart. Looks like it shares its guts with higher end Ryobis
Dude I love your videos. I will literally sit down and watch your channel for hours straight. I’ve watched almost all of your BOLTR’s and love the detail you provide. Do you have any formal education with these small electronics/motors/plastics? Or is it just knowledge you’ve collected overtime? You seem to have an insane knowledge of the manufacturing processes for the tools you review. Did you go to school for this, or have your travels led you to pick up on a lot of it.
The slow speed ramp after reassembly looked like the controller ramping up in open loop and never seeing the expected feedback voltage to switch into closed loop. Feedback inputs maybe fried during reverse rotation, a situation that would not occur in actual use. These tests pander to a certain audience, and tell us very little.
No hall effects sensors didn't help maybe? Only correcting the current from feedback doesn't seem reliable when this kind of "out of intended usage" occurs
I just fully invested in one of the 7 tool Makita sets on the advice of my contractor brother in law. Been loving them. Just saw that Makita is still dedicated to full line battery compatibility for all the 2020 tools coming out!
Not to be a shill or anything, but i mostly see makita tools in the hands of contractors here. However that may be because they're a fair bit cheaper than the competitiors (they got a factory in romania, a neighbouring country, so i guess that's less shipping/taxes costs or something)
I really appreciate how you lower the volume during loud testing. I watch so many video where I constantly have to be on the volume to not piss off the girlfriend. Granted she always ask what the hell I'm watching when I watch your videos lol
Speaking of stanky overmoulding, how does one remove it? I have a battery charger here that's wrapped in some OM that is degrading and is collecting bits of everything it touches. Same for a USB hub. Stanley knives and screwdrivers only go so far.
Give us more reviews of fake tools.....I ordered one of these after watching this review. ......but, will you please skip the 12ft drop....we learn nothing from it except that it breaks at random....
Actually you can learn a lot from the drop. Some of the better brands can hold up to that drop. I’m sure he was expecting it to break but at what point just how durable did they make a $30 Tool.
I'd be much more interested in a long term performance report on these knock offs. I've already given the name brands plenty of cash but for a friend who just needs a drill or driver for light home use it would be nice to have them get a $30 tool and have me lend them a Makita battery. The batteries are the first to go on the budget brands anyway.
Geez, you're in overdrive at the moment. I have managed to upload two videos in seven days. That's the best it's ever going to get for me, you on the other hand churn out videos like the World is going to end. Maybe we should have a chat some time. I sure could learn from your way of doing things. ALSO: Fun fact: This cordless impact exists in a few other colors (orange, white). The white one is available for 10€ on Ebay!
I am a mobile heavy equip/truck mechanic. I bought another version of the fajita with the 1/2” chuck. It removes lugs off of 3500 series trucks daily and has been doing so since April without a hiccup! I’m gonna buy a few more!
The motor pinion teeth don’t look machined to me - the way the tooth profile ‘lofts’ (to use a solidworks term) into the round is not what a hob or shaper would generate. Certainly looks to be turned after the fact.
You rotated the motor the other way when it was energized. Wanna bet that you sent a negative voltage back into the controller? Maybe you put something together for the first time correctly only to have it fuckered beforehand
I'd like to ask a question about the "head to head" test at the beginning. What was the point of it? Why did he not just try to tighten a bigass nut with both of them for the duration of 2 beers or something? Becase it's an impact driver, the motor would spin regardless of what it's up aginst, so i'd guess there was no "extra" load on the drives from working aginst one another. Drills would be a different story, as they would be stalling
OK, I found this tool on AliExpress, but scanning their offerings has raised a few questions. How about a BOLTR on the "Heimerdinger" 18V rotary hammer! I mean, if we're gonna do this, let's step things up! (also, from the same store: WTH is an "impact grinder"?)
About brushless tools... I had opportunity to work with both brushed and brushless Ridgid brand drills and personally i prefer the brushed motors. Smoother run, less vibration, better control. How about you ????
I picked the Makita battery platform, partially because of the BOLTRs. I haven't regretted the purchase once and, even as a lowly home gamer, they have been a joy to use. I'm not one to tell anyone where to spend their money, but I don't want to encourage the race to the bottom. I'm going to continue to buy the real deal. The batteries are where the money is at anyway...
I also stick to Makita batteries. I found an adapter which lets you run Makita batteries in Ryobi, which is great for stuff that Makita doesn't offer, like tire inflators.
I got a decent deal: charger, 3 batteries, impact wrench and cordless drill. My Wera screwdriver tips fit into the impact no issue. The drill is indeed NOT SDS, and the hammer action is well, probably useless, but I just use a wired heavy drill if I have to go against masonry anyway. The only issue with the impact, is that it will drive the screw into whatever material, and then keep going until you get to the other side, if you're not careful enough. Or it will try and rip your hand from your arm.
I use mine since this vidjeo. I love it, it helped with many rusted bolts, and I also did built a house with it. It's still going strong. The only downside is, that it ate 2 original Makita battieas. Don't let them go under 2 bars, and I think you're good to go!
Are you sure that pinion gear is hobbed? If it was hobbed, wouldn’t the inboard side transition where the teeth end be concave instead of (what looks like) convex?
The brown/red mag wire is a polyimide insulated wire. Higher temp and not as brittle as enamel mag wire. The grey potting is probably Dow Corning Sylgard silicon potting compound (or equivalent).
The potentiometers on the step down converters I got for my solar panel were all the same kind. They were fickle. I bet you got the same one in that trigger...
Is this wrench or is impact driver? or can it be used for both? I do have a makita battery and charger, so thinking to get it for occasional use for diy.

@@MrPatrik246 They say you have to open them and grease the mechanism. Are they still working good? There is one for 65$ including shipping and 2 batteries at the moment,
what do you think, if the torque matches the 520N.M ad, which one is better than original makita or a replica of makita, because i am very interested in buying this replica makita
Bought that thing; functionally it's quite alright, but on mine the 1/2" is basically stuck - need a hammer to install and pliers to remove sockets; the little spring-on-o-ring that is supposed to hold the socket is just too big. Will undoubtedly find a fix (just removing the spring works already, just that the sockets fall off then, and the magnetic 1/4" works just fine), just for everyone else: be aware that you'll have to do some work with it.
The recent Makita batteries also have this capacity indicator. But honestly I think that the knockoff offers a way better bang for the buck than the real thing for many applications, especially when it comes to personal needs. The best thing about it is that it will work forever, as the motor is not in use!

My real makita 1/2” drive will barely loosen a wheel bolt, runs for like 10 secs before it begins to turn
im curious, now 2 years later, how did it hold up ?
19:30 now we know why the fancy pants brands use switches for power instead of pwm control
The new Walmart "hart" brand is in need of destruction.
"Hart" is being made by TTI, from what I can tell, they're Cryobi's in White and Blue (WTF?) cases... would be interesting to see them torn apart next to TTI's other lines to see if any price engineering has been done to Walmart's standards... Sad that Hart is another zombie Brand, they made decent Hammers back in the day in the US. (but hey, we still have Estwing at least)
I picked up a Hart 1/2” brushless drill on a whim, and, in no small part due to AVE, took it all apart. From what I can tell it‘s skookum.
Tells us how to put it back together wrong so we can not do it ourselves
No hall effects sensors didn't help maybe? Only correcting the current from feedback doesn't seem reliable when this kind of "out of intended usage" occurs
Not sure if you noticed, but the fajita has a standard quick connect for regular bits built into the square drive..
I just fully invested in one of the 7 tool Makita sets on the advice of my contractor brother in law. Been loving them. Just saw that Makita is still dedicated to full line battery compatibility for all the 2020 tools coming out!
I've had to take a file to a few of my tools as the battery slots have been changed for different battery models.
Not to be a shill or anything, but i mostly see makita tools in the hands of contractors here.
However that may be because they're a fair bit cheaper than the competitiors (they got a factory in romania, a neighbouring country, so i guess that's less shipping/taxes costs or something)
Don't know about Makita but when you buy the DeWalt pkgs. THEY ARE NOT the same as if you buy them separately. Google it .
@@libertyman3729 I checked before I bought it. All the model numbers were listed and they were the brushless tools they sell individually.
@@TechchnologyGuru You probably removed the part that would stop you from using "small" batteries (
Man, this had me howling. When you pressed that button and it kept going I was dying! Good job!
I really appreciate how you lower the volume during loud testing. I watch so many video where I constantly have to be on the volume to not piss off the girlfriend. Granted she always ask what the hell I'm watching when I watch your videos lol
Hahaha, same when I watch one of his vids and the gf is sewing in the background.
Thomas Bjerregaard Agreed. You drop tools from high heights either or both of two things might happen: tool will break and you'll get shitcanned.
Hard to firer oneself.
Thomas Bjerregaard
Do you have a link for where you bought it. I’d like to get one myself
AvE, this was a great laugh! Quality entertainment during the off season. Thank you.
Yes!!! We need more videos from you also
We need another collab video!!!!
$10?! I need that link! :)
Nice to see you here, love your videos. I’m going to need that link for the driver ;)
He's probably trying to make Xmas money to buy his family all kinds of good things. Not at all unusual for this time of year.
I am a mobile heavy equip/truck mechanic. I bought another version of the fajita with the 1/2” chuck. It removes lugs off of 3500 series trucks daily and has been doing so since April without a hiccup! I’m gonna buy a few more!
Hahahaha "Tesla's new self-driving drill/driver."
Is that how those microwave turntable motors do it?
Either it's engrish for brushless grinder, or it actually has an impact driver gearbox and will explode your wheel for funsies
About brushless tools...
I had opportunity to work with both brushed and brushless Ridgid brand drills and personally i prefer the brushed motors. Smoother run, less vibration, better control.
How about you ????
The clear protective cover is for if it falls in love with a dirty project ....No Glove No Love
🤣🤣🤣
BLDC motors can be sensorless as well by using back EMF so no hall sensors needed. It is open-loop briefly with low torque until it sense the BEMF.
I found an adapter which lets you run Makita batteries in Ryobi, which is great for stuff that Makita doesn't offer, like tire inflators.
how are your legs gonna look like cantaloupes if you use an electric tyre inflator?
I got a decent deal: charger, 3 batteries, impact wrench and cordless drill. My Wera screwdriver tips fit into the impact no issue. The drill is indeed NOT SDS, and the hammer action is well, probably useless, but I just use a wired heavy drill if I have to go against masonry anyway. The only issue with the impact, is that it will drive the screw into whatever material, and then keep going until you get to the other side, if you're not careful enough. Or it will try and rip your hand from your arm.
@@thatsunpossible312 ya know Ray, I've been eyeballing that bendy double jointed Ryobi work light...
I use mine since this vidjeo. I love it, it helped with many rusted bolts, and I also did built a house with it. It's still going strong. The only downside is, that it ate 2 original Makita battieas. Don't let them go under 2 bars, and I think you're good to go!
there are a few versions of this knockoff Makita dtw285, some have the 1/2 square drive and other do have a 1/4 hex inside the 1/2 square.
AvE if i sent you a failed bilge pump from a USMC amphibious tank would you do a BOLTR on it like you did with the angle of attack sensor?
It's never a good day when the almighty AvE has to resort to the admission of "Uh-Oh!".
Are you sure that pinion gear is hobbed? If it was hobbed, wouldn’t the inboard side transition where the teeth end be concave instead of (what looks like) convex?
12:40 -- 100% jinyuan switch right there
Enjoying these videos and have learned more from them than any formal education or job I have attended!
You convinced me to get online and buy this knockoff, your a good salesman.
What website was that tool purchased from?
@@spencerkast1042 aliexpress clearly by design, should be 18V impact wrench :-9 i said enough before smoogle smacks me

The brown/red mag wire is a polyimide insulated wire. Higher temp and not as brittle as enamel mag wire. The grey potting is probably Dow Corning Sylgard silicon potting compound (or equivalent).
4:57 Yeah but that’s 16 cents US!
Yeah like 20 canadians pesos :p
Hundreds of Yen
I want one, I’m searching but can’t find it online?
I'm disappointed the top comment isn't about the fashionable fingerless gloves.
Somewhere out there is a set of gloveless fingers.
Is the pinion really machined? There seems to be a big convex radius at the base of the teeth, shouldn't it be concave? Am I missing something?
Oh jeezluss, must have been something pretty rough after the 'shrimp packets' to warrant a jump cut for comedic effect.
So where do I buy one? Drills are expensive for us home gamers, and this seems great to have as a backup/borrow to your neighbour type drill.
AVE I Don't believe the pinion gear is hobbed. No hobbing runout marks.
The potentiometers on the step down converters I got for my solar panel were all the same kind. They were fickle. I bet you got the same one in that trigger...
19:20 sometimes ya gotta pull the shaft out and flip 'er over to get 'er goin
Is this wrench or is impact driver? or can it be used for both? I do have a makita battery and charger, so thinking to get it for occasional use for diy.
He left in the part that says “add txt” hahah savage
So, I obviously gone and bought one of these. It works fine but I broke the tip where the socket retainer ring goes. Does anyone know where can I buy parts for this POS? Thanks in advance.
When I saw those impact's online I instanly bought 2, and I can say they are the best purchase of 2019 for me

what do you think, if the torque matches the 520N.M ad, which one is better than original makita or a replica of makita, because i am very interested in buying this replica makita
Super entertaining. If I knew this guy's name, I might give it to my kid.
Hello from USA, where did you buy the 30$ brushless pirate? Which site please? Thanks
The reading of the poorly translated Chinesium is hilarious 🤣
Bought that thing; functionally it's quite alright, but on mine the 1/2" is basically stuck - need a hammer to install and pliers to remove sockets; the little spring-on-o-ring that is supposed to hold the socket is just too big. Will undoubtedly find a fix (just removing the spring works already, just that the sockets fall off then, and the magnetic 1/4" works just fine), just for everyone else: be aware that you'll have to do some work with it.
Re-shaped keyring works fine.

The recent Makita batteries also have this capacity indicator. But honestly I think that the knockoff offers a way better bang for the buck than the real thing for many applications, especially when it comes to personal needs. The best thing about it is that it will work forever, as the motor is not in use!
