    ------------------------------------------
🔸 To work with leather is not the same as working with vinyl. Vinyl stretches evenly regardless if it is 2 way stretch vinyl or a 4 way stretch one. Leather behaves almost similarly. It is more stretching breadthwise than lengthwise. But the rule is not 100% to be followed. Some leather fibers are loose and others are tight lined up in the same direction.
🔸 Before performing a project in leather that needs to be shaped we should choose a soft and pliable leather material to make things easier. If we learn, understand and put in practice these shoemaking techniques we will be capable of saving unnecessary sewings and our job will be close to an OEM piece from the factory.
🔸 Nowadays, different car interior pieces are manufactured in a different way as they were done in the past. Door panels are included in this new array of manufacturing. For instance, plastic material has come to replace cardboard that was used in the past years.
🔸 A door panel is composed of several plastic sections, including the armrest which are attached by using melted plastic clips. Most of us the upholsterers are afraid of disassembling these parts and wonder how to put them back again.
    ------------------------------------------
👉NOTICE: This sample is part of our full course about door panels and customize as OEM.
🔸It is taught how to wrap in leather the two parts of a door panel which are frequently reupholstered: the upper elongated trim and the armrest.
🔸By learning how to approach these two parts you will understand the process and be able to cover the whole door panel.
🔸The disassembling and assembling of the pieces are also taught with some tips included to solve minor issues.
🔸If you want to step to the next level and upholster the complete door, this bonus videos will be your guide in the process.

When you did the speaker area did you wet the leather & shape it around it first ? Where are you located ? There’s got to be some beautiful interiors wherever you are !👍. That’s a perfect contrast of colors !

I'll have to look into that glue you use for that... I once did a Saab 900 set of door panels and the vinyl heated and fit nicely...at first...but the first hot summer the material pulled away and I ended up using a stitch and allowed the pattern to just fit where it will and have no need for heat gun to help. This was a learning curve for me...
Later I did some door panels for a GMC truck and I ended up using paper towels as a pattern using painters tape at all the places where the seams would be. Was a labor of love.... LOTS of hash markes to make it come together nicely. This is in a show truck....and when the guy is done doing all the body/paint/etc... I'll see if I can make a video of the final project. I added a little LED light strip to the outer side of the door near the bottom to hook up along with the door pin light switch so that when he opens the door there is a visible warning to cars coming along side him IF he parallel parks on a street somewhere...
I was curious as to why you didn't stitch the pieces all together...but seeing as how the pieces are in a place where it won't get a lot of traffic...I can understand why it was done the way it was.
I like your attention to detail!😊

to remove patterns, you can use stained glass film instead of masking tape. it is very convenient, warmed up with a hairdryer and there are no folds.

Which glue do you recommend? Do you have a specific preference when it comes to leather vs vinyl?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Рік тому +5

I cannot recommend a specific trademark. A regular solvent based yellow glue works out well for both vinyl and leather. The transparent heat activated glue I use in the video has the advantage that after pasting it on both surfaces it dries and allows me to put in position the piece. After this step I can liberally start the stitcking process with a heat gun.

@@paulbutchart5450 Heating for the glue to be activated. Besides, it is benefitial to leather material to erase any wrinkle.
