Aviators - Fading Light (Dark Souls Song | Symphonic Rock)

- My adventure through the Dark Souls series certainly was a memorable one. Aside from the infamous difficulty, I found myself captivated by the lore (shout out to VaatiVidya) and blown away by the game design that chooses to let you experience the setting and the world you're in, rather than telling it. As with most lore-heavy games that I get sucked into, this one inspired a song. "Fading Light" is a requiem for the first flame, a song of victory but acceptance of the inevitable darkness. Sure, it may be more of a "Dark Souls III" song than for the series in general, but that's mostly due to the recent release of The Ringed City. Fear not the dark, my friend, and let the feast begin...
This is the second single from my next album Dystopian Fiction, and you can download it here!

Lyrics:
Life's breath in the candlelight
Lost hearts in the dead of night
It's a long way down
To the place they found
Dark sun, hollowed by the fade
Our debt they left to be paid
Seen the blackness stare
Promising to spare
The chosen
Born of graves and left below
Painted ashes, painted snow
When the dark awakens
Fires of our last hope are getting low
Souls of gods and souls of men
Meet in cinders to ascend
Fate has chosen
And our fading light is at its end
I've a tale that time has lost
Sins of judgment born in frost
Then he took a name
For the one profaned
Know the dark but let it rest
Left to lurkers in their quest
Let the watchers fight
And the blood ignite
The chosen
Souls to revive us
Or rot us away
Want for the weary
And death for the sane
Cursed yet we listen
For bells left to toll
To fight back the depths of
Humanity's soul
For the unkindled
We look to the sun
Cities in gold
All the victories won
Fear not the dark
Or the monsters, my friend
And brace for the feast
Of humanity's end

For those of you who have played it, I'm interested to hear what you think:
What was your favorite piece of the Souls series OST? I think Soul of Cinder might be mine (if I didn't give that away).
Hands down Slave Knight Gale's theme, that or the abyss watchers
Slave Knight Gael wins on drama between the setting of the fight and the music, that's for sure. It's so cinematic.
I think you should write a song for the slave knight, I think he deserves to have his story told by your amazing songs
In souls in general, Soul of CInder's transition to phase 2, or the entire boss fight with Gael. If we shall include bloodborne, hand's down Ludwig. The music, the cutscene, the lore... All of it amazing. But I do love finding blind bossfights with SoC and seeing the reactions to the musical shift
Dancer. Forever and always Dancer.
"let the watchers fight"
Aviators reveal boss cheese
Less cheese and more just how the fight goes. Cheese would be more like getting oceiros stuck
@@thezestfall1st107 fuck Oceiros
@@thezestfall1st107 quitting game to break watchers AI so it doesnt move
Honestly, I think its more of a lore reference. The Abyss Watchers fought the Abyss in the memory of Artorias, to finish what Knight Artorias started long long ago. Its more of a lore reference that 'don't disturb the watchers. Let them fight the Abyss alone.'
I just realised that "Our fading light is at its end" Is not only a reference to DS1, but also DS3 as in the first game when you light the fire, it's a massive explosion of fire, but in DS3 when you link the fire, it's just a small flame that barely covers the unkindled. The first fire is pathetically week and close to the end of its life at this point
The ashen ones are made of the ashen remains of those who linked the fire but were to weak to survive. They are only crated as none are left who are fit to link the flame. The reason that the flame is so small after an ashen one links the flame is because they've already done it once. Linking the flame a second time merely consumes what little was left from the first time
Just looking at the image for the song should tell you this song was written with DS3 in mind even if there are lyrics applicable to the first game. That ledge there and the background are ripped directly from the beginning of The Ringed City, the final DLC.
@@jonnyblade3234 well it also consumes all the souls- the ashen one and all undead for that matter are just vessels were stronger and stronger souls gather, it is not the body that burns bit the soul. And as the fucker who defeated all the previous lords and stole their souls has a pretty large soul. It is likely just that the world itself has burned out/and or the fire just grew naturally weaker with its unnatural prolongation
The souls series is about the fact that no matter what you choose it ends in the same result. In ds1 there was another who would link the flame if the chosen undead failed and in 3 it flips that concept no matter what you chose to do the flame dies.
The reason the fire is so small is that it hasn’t been linked by the people intended to link it instead waiting for it to go out.
"Fear not the dark or the monsters, my friend,
And brace for the feast of Humanity's end" is one of the most chilling couplets in a song I've heard in a long time.
We finally get to partake of our long awaited age.
And gods, is it exquisite
This is where the fun begins. Ave Dominus Nox.

'For the unkindled we look to the sun. Cities in gold all the victories won. Fear not the dark or the monsters my friend, and brace for the feast of humanitys end.'
I love this part, it's so beautifully nihilistic, sums up the whole series.
Jessica it makes me sad knowing that during the time of ds3 solair is dead
I wish he is in ds3
How is this game nihilistic?
Think about it. Even with everything dying and going to shit. Humanity is still around. Standing in the ashes of gods and demons.
Gods, Dragons and Demons have risen thousands of times. Fought and burned .
Yet the last battle is fought by two humans. Standing in the ashes and ruins of old. Fighting over the last bit of humanity left. All in all we won.
@@Animefan1803 i see your point but a few things the soul of cinder at the end is technically not human it is the accumulation of every person who has linked the fire in the majority humans have yes but in his second phase it reverts to gywn a "god" this is showing that just like in ds1 he is still clinging to his flase hope of the age of fire lasting forever when we kdefeat the soul of cinder we have three choices 1.link the fire and keep the cycle going for however long it takes for the fire to go out this time 2.let the fire die and let the beckon in the age of dark 3. take the fire for our self and well we dont know what happens after that from what we know we would have the power of the soul of cinder so we would become the flames guardian just like how it did depending on what ending you got and what your view on dark souls politics are you can say that "we won" but from my perspective there is only one ending we win and even that is nihilistic if we link the fire then we are just keeping the age of fire alive for how many years it will go on fully knowing it gets shorter with each link and stopping the natural progression of ages so you follow in gwyn's ways if we take the fire for our self the same outcome the age of fire keeps going but in what i see as the best ending is letting the fire die and letting the dark take control in ds1 and parts of ds3 it talks about how the world has ages first was the age of dragons then the age of fire and then there was meant to be the age of dark but the linking of the fire kept that from happening and the age of dark is also known as the age of humanity since humanity harbors the dark soul hence it being dubbed "the dark soul of man" so with letting fire die humanity is no longer ruled by false gods or royalty they are free to roam without fear from the gods yet even in this "best" ending the world is in a blanket of pure darkness just as the chaos flame made life just as the first flame made life so can the abyss yet that life will just wounder without purpose, without reason humanity just like the gods and just like the dragons before are not important in any way each player is nothing they are just specs a moment in time that was great for a moment but will be forgotten about as the next age passes you can see it when you fight all these dragons with names and history even syth the father of sorcery but what do we know about there age other thne the gods killing them next to nothing and thats the point they were forgotten just how in the age of dark the gods will be forgotten and in the next age humanity will be forgotten and also yes dragons are gone (kinda since there are a lot of dragons still around and in dranglek there is a whole kingdom full of them but that depends if you wanna count ds2 as cannon or not ) and demons are gone but that just adds to the depressing mood of it all the dragons had lives and the gods took that all away killed each one of them if they did not serve them the giant were used as slaves and the demons as well yes are dead mostly but in the chaos flame where most saw hate and gwyn saw heresy it created life it created demons they just roamed there lands had a society even just how the gods would or how humans would but even then whoever wanted power (in this case the player from ds1) took that from them killed all daughters of chaos and then the bed of chaos what in tern made the demons run from there home and eventually die out and even in ds3 the last demon king we get to fight he fights with all his will and when he is nearly dead he uses all of his energy to try and kill us after that he cant even stand just trying to bat us away to stop us so yes humanity out lived them but they will be forgotten as well because the story is not about humanity it is about the world there in how ages must past and how men(gwyn ) will always try to prolong power at any cost
@@Animefan1803 sorry for the essay tho if it came of as a bit salty im just really passionate about the lore
@@theabyssalundead372 But the last battle in the series is actually Gael. Because of the timetravel before the boss fight.
Technically the entire world is already destroyed when you meet Gael.
So my point stands. The last battle is fought between 2 humans in the ashes of the gods.
So while yes, there´s no world we inherit. Which is also not the point. Humanity stripped itself from the slavery of the gods, perfectly capable of creating a new world within the paintings. We may have destroyed the world in the process, but we freed ourself from the tyranny of false idols. Which given the situation, i see as an absolute win.

@@willghezzi it's a reference to how Sulyvahn became Pontiff in the Boreal Valley. He wasn't supposed to be Pontiff.
I think sulyvahn came from ariandel and went outside the painting and went to profane capital and found to profane flame he then used a greatsword to get the flame and went back to the boreal valley and made himself pontiff
Doubt it's intentional, but I like how the background is the ashen one standing at the entrance of the ringed city. Perfect representation of DS3. A tiny soul, standing at the entrance of the end.
Yeah ikr
Wait i thought this is the dreg herp?
@@zachoshark It's the Demon Prince drop, the entrance to the Ringed City.
I've always thought the end of that DLC was great: two nobodies fighting over nothing in the middle of nowhere is the perfect end to the Dark Souls series.
And the Ringed City is the ACTUAL finale of the Dark Souls series, the epic conclusion to the franchise that became the best known and most loved...
A fitting end, if you ask me.

I listened to this song a million times when it came out, and now I Finally got around to playing Dark Souls 3. Just found my way to the place from this screenshot & I'm way more excited about it than I should be 😂
I listened to this song countless times, often humming along with it, but today I actually tried to sing it and I found myself crying. It just got so much more powerful when I uttered the words on my own other than just hearing them, it's like a punch in the stomach. Tears were streaming down my face as I said "souls of gods and souls of men" and my voice broke right away. Thank you for this amazing song!
As an avid Souls fan I must say this is probably my favorite out of all the songs I have heard. Don't get me wrong the others are good melodically, as is this one. The part where this song shines out more though is the lyrics. I love these lyrics.

Not much point when the sun goes down in every song aviators has to be honest
I just want to say that I only played Dark Souls 2 before, and the intro with the minimal background that left me confused about what I was even doing in that game didn't help. I quit after only an hour's playtime when I saw that no more solid info was coming out about what the game and all this flame and darksign bullshit npc's kept talking about was. I never looked back, considering it as simply a fad of a game, only interesting for how hard it supposedly was.
Years later and I came upon this piece of music.
The love, care, and pure emotion this song soared hit me hard. After listening to the song a few dozen times, I quickly found and installed Dark Souls 3, determined to see with my own eyes what inspired this song that haunted me. Even having finished it, this song always hovered above, coloring my experience, and I realized that everything I met, felt, and learned in the game (which was amazing) I already had because of this song. And I have to say, this wasn't a bad thing at all.
Just... Just thank you, man. Thank you for this experience. This is a song I will never be able to forget. Thank you.
Sabaku e Cydonia: Poggers
This song is the reason why i downloaded a pirate copy of dark souls 3, played it a little, realized "yep, this is definitely my game"
bought the game in steam, beat various mods, inlcuding hollow overhaul on sl1, bought a ps4 to play bloodborne 2 times and never touch that ps4 again
and where am i now? playing randomizer runs in elden ring with my personal modifications..... life is kind of insane.
Back here 6 years later after Dark souls 3 helped me go through depression and this song still makes me feel how grand of game that was and how important it was to me, as was your song. So from me 6 years ago : thank you for making me feel things back then. From my today : thank you for making me feel so grateful and happy.
I haven't even played the game, but this song echoes all that I have heard about it. I love the lyrics "painted ashes, painted snow."
I haven't play a lot of Dark Souls (35 hours in 3) but this is an amazing song that has a wonderful dark souls feel to it. Yet again Aviators putting out an outstanding song that I cant wait to put on repeat for hours, great job my friend.
TheIceNerd definitely try bloodborne and maybe give dark souls 2 a try i played it and it actually fun even if it doesn't follow any of the lore and setting set in the previous game
Dark Souls 2 I actually feel fits the whole sort of "reality is coming undone" theme that we see at the end of DS3, due to they way DS2's map is laid out. I would recommend beating all of the other games before playing/beating the final boss and final DLC of DS3, if you are able to.
Austin Fridenberg It actually does follow the lore of the other game though? It's just on the opposite side of the world. Manus's offspring are the 4 Queens, Chaos is there, the choice of fire or dark but knowing that choice will be undone by the next, the old souls being in the 4 major bosses in the game, etc. It just offers something different. The flame may not be there but the throne links to the flame. It repeats some lore things 1 had and foreshadows some of which happen in 3. All the lands merged together by the time of 3, so some NPCs being there from 2 in 3 and Ringed City using things from it. Even hollowing system is the same but goes more in depth of how hollowing makes you go insane after a while. Where as in 1 everyone slowly loses it around us and we stay fine.
Holy crap dude I have no clue by but this made me cry.
It's so creative with so many blatant references but it still contains meaning without just seeming like you've thrown the lyrics away.
Absolutely phenomenal I couldn't be happier, and as someone with 1000+ hours in DS3, my favourite has to be when I tried a broken straight sword run while fighting the abyss watchers.

Why i haven't heard you before. I can't stop listening to it, I actually love it mate. The music is so great and your voice goes well with. I just wish i found you earlier. For few months i'm trying to find something that sounds so well.
Dude, you just made my day. Once I heard this treasure, I can't stop listening
The Abyss Watchers is my favorite it just seemed to put everything together
Legit, you're one of the only musicians I jump for joy for when I see you've uploaded. Keep up the fabulous work!
You never cease to amaze me with how well you make music, Aviators.
Absolutely the best song written by Aviators. Not one wrong note, absolute perfection.
Well this and Sweet Dreams are the best songs by Aviators......or atleast the only two Aviators songs that I enjoy.
Have you listened to Into The Black (Berserk Song)?
It hits me on a real deep level as a Berserk fan. Their lyrics are always so amazing.
@@vergulyanets . No I have not. But I did find one other Aviators song I kinda like.
It was based on the anime Beastars which to me is pretty boring but the song sounds good.
I might check out the song you just mentioned.
im so happy that you made a song on this game, it's my most loved game and your style of music works so well with it to i just can't help but smile
I can't wait to hear dystopian fiction. At this rate it's gonna be amazing.
I absolutly love this song, it fits incedibly well with the souls games and contains so many references to the games. The song captures the feeling of the souls games, both the epic and the melancholic parts and i just love it
Ooh, if the album has a lot of songs like this I can't wait for it. I love your dark dystopian songs so much!
This song is how I feel on the inside. Thank you for creating this masterpiece. I’ve been looking for this for a long time.
I just need to listen to this so many times for day. Hits so much more if you played Dark Souls. Thanks for this masterpiece
You know that spine chill you get when the music just hits? My spine's fazing out of fuckin existence
This is absolutely amazing !!!! The chills are unreal. Very good choice of lyrics!
This song is absolutely bloody perfect for the game. You did an amazing job!
Every fan had a heart attack when they heard Gwyns theme
I recently just started playing the souls series. Started with Remastered last year, finished thst game in about 2 months.
And started playing Dark Souls 3 around January. And holy cow, i cant beat Friede or Prince of Lothric.
I love the game and love the lore.
My favorite lores in the series so far is the lore of the Abyss with Artorias. The Lore of the Queen of Izilith.
The lore of the Abyss Watchers, and the lore of the Dancer of Boreal Valley.
Good stuff. Good stuff.
And the only lore i know kinda well, is the lore of Artorias and Sif. I am learning as it goes on, and making my speculations as I play the game. Some in line with the accepted lore. And others far from it.
But the world is so encapsulating. I love the way in the first game, the map is inter connected.
And i love in the 3rd game, standing by the destroyed bridge after beating Vordt. Standing at the place where the flag is raised you can see all the way up to Anor Londo. And kinda see the path you took to get there.
Also, i find it kinda interesting, that you cannot see any area outside of Lothric no matter how high up in the castle you get. (idk about after beating Prince of Lothric haven't gotten there) And in order to see any place outside the Lotheric's wall, you have to first slay Vordt.
That made me fill my head with speculations as to why that would be
Best way to beat Friede is to abuse her weakness for backstabs. Fast weapons are best here, since the backstab grab of ultras' are pathetically slow. If you like strength, maybe try the claymore
Some of your best work, and given that all of it is amazing, this is truly something remarkable.
Without a doubt Aviators, you are my favourite musician of all time. Your music is an inspiration to me, and the way your lyrics inspire such imagery in my mind. I can see the dark world you sing about, and it is beautiful.
