LYRICS:
Fires Fade Gavin Dunne 2016
And in the paths of ash
Another bond of burden seek
See the pale moon paint the sky in frost
And in the lives long past
In the cinders of the weak
Lie the failures of the lost
Fires fade
The dimming of the embers
Wake from your sleep again
Fires fade
Wills of steel to temper
Come reignite this hopeful flame
Inward face the eyes
Purge and purify
Silver silk strings of hope
Puppets pulled forward
Should the fires fade
Should the cinders dim
Should the fires fade
Silent sigh, final hymn
And the world comes tumbling down
Cold kings clutch crumbling crowns
Fires fade
The dimming of the embers
Wake from your sleep again
Fires fade
Wills of steel to temper
Come reignite this hopeful flame

It just occurred to me, it must've been super awkward when the Abyss Watchers first woke up. "Huh, what's going on. Oh god damnit, who forgot to link the fire! Wait a minute, Steve, you've been tainted by the abyss! Sorry man, I have no choice but to kill you."
"I've been tainted by the abyss? You've been tainted by the abyss! Prepare to die!"
"Wha-holy crap you're right! I have been tainted by the Abyss! What do we do when this happens? I never read the abyss watcher manual. Do I kill myself? Or do I kill you first, then myself? What would Artorias do!"
"Well he'd probably kill somebody like a badass in front of the player character and then get killed himself."
"Oh right"
lololololol
Abyss Watcher Steve is my favorite Dark Souls boss.
10/10
Looooooooool

Just so you know, you inspired a holy day in one of my Pathfinder campaigns.
"And on the day of the winter solstice, all lamps and torches are to be extinguished at dawn, and all fires allowed to burn down to ash. Only the Eternal Flame in Her temples is permitted to remain burning, and only fires for cooking may be lit, and they are to remain small, and only sufficient to do their purpose. Fires in sick rooms are also allowed to remain burning - do not let Her glory be an excuse for the frail and unfortunate to perish.
For an hour during the day, Her faithful are to kneel in the ashes of the fires in silence. They are to reflect on their own mortality, their weaknesses and their failures of the past year. If sorrow overtakes them, they are permitted, yeah, encouraged, to cry aloud. As the hour draws to a close, Her faithful are again encouraged to make vows before Imrash, addressing their faults, and to lay plans to make amends for any and all wrongs they have committed. In the final hour before sunset, all of her Faithful who are able in body are to go before the Eternal Flame. They are to wear no ornaments or finery, and no barrier shall separate lord from peasant, for in the Day of Ash, all are to be reminded of their frailty. The clergy and holy ones of Her temple will then lead the Her faithful in hymns of penance and rebirth. "Fires Fade" from the Hymnist Gavin is greatly recommended. Once the sun has disappeared below the horizon, Her faithful are again permitted to light lamp, torch, and hearth.
For on this day, we recall the mystery of our Lady.
Imrash burns. Imrash dims. Imrash will blaze forever more."
-Prophet Lazereus, "Acts of Devotion to the Flame"

not gonna lie, that idea is genius
Write a book.
Seriously, write one.
What is this?
This is a fine piece, a very interesting and immersive one
Holy fucking shit Gav, you've outdone yourself yet again.
+Totally Not A Cylon Have you seen a Cylon pass by?
+Totally Not A Cylon ya.
And in true Dark Souls fashion: This entire song was played on a kazoo.
Can't wait for the banana dunked in sprite version
@@niravathu7353 I just want them to dootify it.
Hello, my name is друг, and I think this is an amazing song, it’s very dramatic and beautiful.
JimiJenkins also are you Nate?
There's even a special mode for those that like pain called "Nettle Leaf".
Yeah, I think it's about time I just accept that I will never not be impressed by a new Miracle of Sound song.
Word.
I accepted this like 4+ years ago. 😂
+SootShade He was already pretty amazing on The Escapist, but the heights he has reached now ... it's crazy but i'm entirely happy for the guy :)
+James F Same. Ever since the "Commander Shepard" came out i've been a die hard fan. Gavin is the reason i picked up a guitar and eventually started to write my own songs. I even have a freaking cool tattoo planned ;)
+SootShade How the hell does he keep giving me shivers EVERY. TIME.
Truly epic song; I also love the use of the bits from "You Died" and "Fires Far"; it makes the song feel like a true sequel to the previous ones the way the game itself is to its predecessors.
agreed
There one thing that's bizarre though and I'm not sure if it's on purpose or not.
Some of the lyric sounds like as though they're referring to Bloodborne also. You notice it during the first verse.
+Eckskalibur It's not bizarre, the games are from the same devs and are both souls style games so it would make sense to relate them.
That's something i absolutely LOVED about his Dragon Age songs, bc he took parts from the original, but either changed the tune slightly or changed the lyrics slightly
+SavageShades In that sense it's not, since Bloodborne is made by From and is designed similarly to the Souls series, but I suppose I prefer a clear distinguish between the 2 game titles. Even with their roots of gameplay coming from the same Old One.
It's official. "Orchestral rock" is now my favorite kind of music and I need more of it in my life.
Two steps from hell, Armenia and flight of the silver bird, two of the best orchestra rock I've heard ever
Try aviators. They are pretty good too.
@@Scout_6071 monumental and to the grave slaps
@@yogscastrepic same, i cannot recommend TSFH enough
I definitely agree with you, this is so incredible!
I just realized,
"Inward face the eyes, Purge and Purify"
That's totally a Bloodborne reference, not just in the eyes on the inside thing but possibly unintentionally referencing a specific line,
"Plant eyes on our brains so that we may be cured of our beastly idiocy"
First bit is obvious but, purge and purify totally equals the stuff about being cured, you cure something to purify it.
Gav was discussing on his facebook how this song was received with certain disappointment from some of his audience. which is why I figured he did Forever Flame. But after seeing that post and returning here, i can't quite see why people could have been disappointed. Its an awesome addition to the Dark Souls oeuvre Gavin has got going, Almost like an epic climax to the two previous ones.
Fuck I bought the damn thing as soon as I could, it felt like an homage and a final brick to both the Dark Souls songs and the Paleblood Moon song from Bloodeborne.
+GamingDoneProperly GDP I feel so as well. There are a few songs where I'd say the singing is not as prominent as it should be.
+SmexyRula No, it's garbage, now make more ;)
Really? Personally, I think I liked this one more than "Forever Flame" (don't get me wrong, that one's still good, I just like this one a bit more). Like you said, it feels more like a "Grand finale" sort of piece.
... But, hey, I'd be totally okay with Gavin doing a super-sexy future version of this like he did with "Take it Back" and "The New Black Gold".
Henrique de Carvalho well you have no taste in music
johnathan totton I dont think you got his joke
Thank you so much for having me on the song Gav, I'm absolutely over the moon!!!
Nice singing!!

After Gav said on the podcast that some people didn't like this song I tought he might have experimented with a few new things. Now after having listened to it I am somewhat confused, since this is not only really good but also without any unorthodox elements that could put people off.
*****
Yeah, that might be part of it.
@@LordAJ12345 What could be part of it?
@@LordAJ12345 It's been 3 years man, don't leave me hanging
@@twinzzlers I don't remember what the missing comment said, but my theory as to its reception is that it has to do with Dark Souls lore, and how the song kind of implies that the First Flame should be allowed to die ("should the fires fade/should the cinders dim," which starts to sound more like a question over time).
@@blarg2429 but the message from the DS saga is that in fact Gwyn fucked up and the flame had to fade.
I really like how your Dark Souls songs capture all the good things about the series.
"You Died" is a jolly melody about the masochistic nature of the games.
"Fires Far" is more bleak, like the story.
And "Fires Fade" is an awesome ballad about the aspect of hope, which is a huge part of the Dark Souls experience.
There's an interesting phenomenon that occurs with me and many of your songs: The first time I listen to a song, often times it's somewhat underwhelming. The first time I listened to, for example, Don't Say a Word, I just thought it was "pretty good." Then I listened to it again a few weeks later. Only then did it hit me that that's one of the greatest songs you've ever written. Maybe I just wasn't paying attention the first time...Road Rage, I Am the Night, Edge of the World...All of those songs impressed me way more after I came back to them much later.
Now, Fires Fade. Judging from your reactions on Twitter, a lot of people didn't like this song, or at least don't think it's as good as your other stuff. At first, I didn't have much of an opinion on it. It definitely wasn't BAD (you haven't written a bad song since I started following you, in my opinion), it just didn't stand out to me much - much like the above songs the first time I heard them. Forever Flame, on the other hand, was really good from the first time I listened to it.
Now, it's been a couple months since I first listened to Fires Fade. How do I feel about it now? Well...It's awesome! Sharm is incredibly talented - the "wavering" she can do with her voice is a treat for the ears, and of course your own voice makes it even better. The lyrics, the instrumentals, everything is great. I don't play Dark Souls, but even I can tell that you've put love and care into this song. It fits right in with your other Dark Souls songs, and is a worthy counterpart to Forever Flame in my eyes.
So, basically, great job with this one. I imagine it's discouraging when people prefer your old songs to your new ones, but I think you're more talented than you've ever been. Level 1 and 2 still have some great songs, but they don't hold a candle to Level 6 or Metal Up. Level 7's shaping up to be of a similar quality. I can't wait to see what else the album brings.
Thanks :) The whole song growing on you over time thing happens me as well with lots of my favourite songs!
I was just thinking the same thing about Road Rage. First time I heard it, I was "meh, could be better", but I started listening to it again and I love it now. It's weird XD
I call it the Blind Guardian effect
Precisely this. I didn't like this song that much at first, but grew to love it.
The same happens to me with a lot of Marilyn Manson songs.
actually it happened to me too. its really weird! I love most of your songs gav but those you made about dark souls are something different... its so emotional!
The last time I came this early, my girlfriend left me. but in all reality, holy carp this is amazing Gav, honestly, every time I think you've reached a pinnacle of epic, where you can climb no higher and your amazing talent for music has finally reached its climax high above us mortals, you prove me wrong with another glorious master piece. When each song of yours is greater than your last, when you continue to bestow upon us your lyrical genius and the voice of a god, and yet you are still so humble and such a great guy, I truly realize that you have no limit. You are and amazing singer, amazing writer, and an amazing person sir. Gavin, I truly hope for the best for you, as you truly deserve world-wide recognition for your amazing work.

With the dying of the First Kiln’s fire, a ring was forged.
One ring to rule them all.
A dark sign; the blackened abyss of humanity surrounded by a ring of flame. A ring that would rule all things for an age longer than any was ever meant to be.
Countless dark signs, for the human dregs; four souls for the strongest of lords; and one flame, kindled within a kiln forged by the gods, to rule them all
It's in my head. I can't get it out.

This is perfect. Songs about DS and Bloodborne are the best ones. That would be so awesome if Gavin made a song about the game called Darkest Dungeon. It is very atmospheric.
+Максим Посаженников I was actually thinking the same thing. Knowing how awesome Gavin is it has a high chance of becoming a real thing. Just give it time :v
+Максим Посаженников Yes, so much fucking yes .
Honestly, I would LOVE it if we could get more songs about Indie titles.
well there first expansion is releasing next year so maybe. But it's an indie game and he usually does work for AAA games sadly.
Has he done a song about papers please? That would be cool- you could do a dark depressing song to a glorious, communist sounding theme
Absolutely fantastic. Outdone yourself yet again Gavin! Love the motifs from the previous songs too. =D
+Harry101UK Harry, what are you doing here? :D Get back to making awesome stuff too, you cheeky bugger!

Recently discovered Miracle of Sound (immediately learned from the community the guy’s name is Gav), filled my iPod with these songs, but this is my favourite. It’s close between this and Ode to Fury but I can’t stop listening to this. I’ve never even played a souls game, but now I want to. Same for Dragon Age after All As One. Gav you’re officially a gem of the internet and I’m recommending this to everyone who’ll listen!
I dont care

they all kinda had that air about them.
The development of the three songs so far as I see it
Dark Souls - You Died Laughing
Dark Souls 2 - EPICNESS
Dark Souls 3 - * PC/Car speakers blow up *
Man this is great, don't know why people are "disappointed". 10/10 as usual you haven't made a single bad song yet!
I've been studying stylistics and linguistic devices and whatnot a bunch lately and holy crap there's a lot of interesting stuff here. The song is already great musically speaking but the lyrical mastery really elevates the whole to a new level. I'm tempted to go back and check out older songs to see if I find something I previously missed. Rekindle my appreciation so to say. Anyway, great work as always, Gav. Looking forward to the next one already.
Check out his Deus Ex song: The New Black Gold.
It subjectivly has the best lyrics he wrote to a song.
Borth songs are good, but I like this one better.
It's a new model of killer robot with a stupid cartoon name.
Actually it's a village in Wales :P
where did the killer robot come into play?
Gav's gothic almost harsh tone of voice mixes perfectly with Sharm's beautiful harmonic voice. Not to mention I've never heard an entire song with two people singing in unison, especially not this well!
I remember this song being somewhat controversial when it first came out and getting a weirdly negative response from some people, but for my money it remains the one song that best captures the vibe and narrative themes of the franchise.
And what really won me over was the fact you don't stick with the standard 4 to 6 chords. Bravo! I salute thee for using the minor scales.
As soon as I heard your Dark Souls leitmotif, I got chills
Ahh, a new Miracle Of Sound Dark Souls song, therefore Praise The Sun!
Gav has created countless bangers over the years, but damn, this one will always stand out as one of my favourites
Can't wait to hear what you do for Elden Ring, Love your music bro!
I hope so because he's very old to make the wonderfull music
3:49 onwards is badass. The Nameless King clip is perfectly placed, hella goose-bump worthy
if I didn't know any better I'd assume this was the theme to dark souls 3.
carry on making amazing music.
Sharm was an amazing addition to this song, you guys synchronized in perfect balance. I hope you will work with her again in the future
Gavin, over the past few years I've been listening to you. Never once have I heard a song and not said to myself "This is a work of passion, of hard work and dedication." You are a true artist, and I wish you all the success in the world. I came around a little late, first hearing you around the Level 4 era, but ever since I've been a real fan.
This song further cements my thoughts that, unlike some musicians, your talent and tenacity just seem to grow with each year. Please make music for as long as you can, because you have a gift that has inspired me in many ways. Strange or not, Level 5 inspired me to write my first novel. A few select instrumentals or bits of lyric just ignited things in my head that made me want to put myself to work on something I really cared about.
Thank you Gav, the name Miracle of Sound is well-earned
+Profane Historian thank you very much :)
+miracleofsound With your music, Gavin, none of us shall ever Hollow.
+Profane Historian I would love to read your novel, if/when you finish it. :)

And Sharm added another layer of awesomeness to the song.
needs an hour long version with pics of things like fan art, boss art, and just epic pics from the game itself
And then just pictures of Gav for like 10mins
This is still, to this day, my favorite song Gav ever made, not to mention my favourite souls song. Just perfection.
I remember hearing people didn't like this.
I look at the view count, and the like/dislike bar, and wonder where that idea came from.
Seriously, I don't see what the problem is. It's an awesome song. Did I miss something?
Filthy music casuals on Twitter
I did not like this at first, but the more I listened to it the more I liked it.
Times change, I guess.
Dara McMahon I know it's a bit late but I understand that some people don't like it. These transitions in the style of two steps from hell seem a bit overly dramatic and don't add much to the song in my mind. It's still a good song and everybody got their own taste for music but that could be a reason to dislike it.
This simply rocked me off my chair again. I didn't even play Dark Souls 3 yet but this is getting me hyped.
This was published on my 17th birthday. Thanks for the present, the definition of epic.

+BloodiestCODY Thank you :)
This was a masterpiece. This has been a very nightmarish day for me. I accidentally ran over my dog when I came home today and she died. Though a great amount of crying and grieving has helped me get over the initial shock, music like this helps me to center my emotions. Thank you very much, Gav. I really enjoyed the almost doom/gothic metal vibe to the song combined with the orchestras and Sharm's vocals added a very pleasing dynamic to the whole thing. I love it when an artist can make use of bells in an effective manner.
Dang, I'm sorry about your dog. 😟 I definitely understand how this kind of music helps; I utilize it in the same way. I hope Gav and other artists realize how amazingly helpful they are.
+Decaying Reverie Sorry about your dog :( I hope you feel better soon

If we're talking about the wedding it's so out of context that it doesn't constitute a spoiler.
yes but people dont know it even exist on their first playthrough IF they dont spoil themselves, its well hidden
I don't know if I can say anything beyond 'this is fucking phenomenal'.
For what it's worth, I would disagree with the comment you put on twitter, where someone said your voice is a bit 'samey' through your tracks; on the one hand it's a bit '...he's one guy, no shit sherlock' but what I can hear of you alongside Sharm here is like what you did for Paleblood Moon, and it's so tonally appropriate.
Between the uniqueness of 'Kana', how evocative and cathartic 'The Lucky Ones' is (I will admit to having a much-needed nice little cry at that one, despite having next to no interest in the IP) and now this, I think it's fair to say you've been having a hell of a month with your content!
+PoliteTimesplitter Thank you :) I have been personally happy with these recent songs, they're something that I want to listen to myself. I'm not really sure what some people seem to want from me vocally but I was only born with one set of vocal chords lol, I can't change that

I will never forget how invested I am in the story was and how much fun I had playing through all these wonderful games. You've got talent so continue to make these songs because they are pretty damn good so far.

the camera work in this video is absolutely breathtaking.
Can't believe it took me 5 years to see the alliteration of cold kings clutch crumbling crowns.
We know that there is some "fires far" and some "you died", but I think I heard some "Paleblood Moon" in there
yeah, heard it too
+Alex Dagos That's because he uses a software to create synthetic voices.
+SharkTurd11 You sure it was not intentional? He puts lots of intentional references to his own songs in many of his works.
***** He doesn't usually do it with songs that aren't related tot he same franchise. But who knows.
SharkTurd11 Many people consider Bloodborne to be a Demon/Dark souls game.
i love this melody from "You Died" song
Been looking forward to this one for a good while now; certainly not disappointed! Thanks again Gav!
Jeeze this song sounded like it was broken and limping, tired, pissed off, and yet unable to stop. A perfect reflection of the twisted agony.
"Purge and purify" playing a cleric/mage feels so right in such a dark world
Man, I've been listening to this song the whole weekend. It's amazing like all the ones you've made, the music makes me feel like it is indeed a dark, yet epic adventure and your voice and Sharm's compliment it at an amazing level. I'll be honest, you are one of the reasons I want to become a musician.
I really do like how you incorporated bits and pieces of your past Souls songs into this, It really helps to tie this song in with the other two, well done Miracleofsound, well done.
This song gives me goosebumps
Incredibly awesome!!! And OMG I can't say how much I love Sharm on this! She's got such an epic sound! Love it!
omg...how could you surpass yourself?!?I've been a fan of your music for years and this just blew me away. the lil medly snuck in from "you died" touched me and GAh. this is beyond words. I usually hate female vocals in rock because it always seems to try and challenge or overcome the music but this synched up so well I'm in tears. thank you so much for creating this cinematic beautiful audio life. you guys deserve to be up there with E.S. Posthumous
Fires fade, embers rise, empires fall, and heroes awaken.
The call backs are the best part of these songs, they are always so well done.
