I applaud you for recognizing your limits and knowing what is right and not for you.
It’s not a big deal to let go, it’s a big deal to know when to! ❣️
That is so true. Thank you for your kindness ❤
Nothing wrong with knowing when to pass on a project. You are a great furniture artist Holly! Don’t feel bad. 🥰🥰🥰
I really appreciate that. Thank you for being so kind 💜
I understand Holly and will be looking forward to your other projects
Thank you, Lorraine.
Definitely a good call! Those drawers were firewood for sure. I don't know a single experienced furniture artist who would see all the issues you saw and still think that it would be worth saving. We can't save them all, unfortunately, and our time and energy are valuable.
Firewood would also be a good use for this 😂😂😂
You are 100% right.
Holly, I think you're great! I respect you, you're an amazing artist and I love the fact that you decided not to mess with this piece of furniture just to make a profit. You have integrity my dear, never apologize for that!! I look forward to your videos as I have come to realize you are quite a perfectionist!! And it shows in the beautiful pieces you produce....thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise Holly...❤
Thank you for your kindness and understanding. It really means a lot.
I am a perfectionist, but I am working on changing that. I do try my hardest to create beautiful pieces out of damaged furniture, but perfection is an impossible thing to strive for. Especially in this line of work. I'm honored that you think so highly of my work. ❤
Great video. We see the successes and don't realize there are some pieces for good reason are a pass. Thank you for being candid with all aspects of your business by teaching us the good and the bad.
Very well said. Thank you for your kindness 🙏
Thank you for sharing this project, what we need to look for and remind us Time spent is really important; knowing when to pass on a project is so important! I really like the projects you've done so far, looking forward to the next one.
I really appreciate that and wholeheartedly agree. Thank you ❤

I appreciate you sharing your experience and thoughts on this topic. It is good advice, especially for new furniture painters and restorers. I know there are people out there who have the skills and desire to work on this type of piece and I hope one of them take it off your hands. I wouldn’t be able to restore it either with my current skillset.
Thank you for your kindness.
Holly, I love watching your videos. Clearly you have backbone, so you don't need outside validation to but I love that you showed that some things are ok to let go.
This means a lot. Thank you ❤
You made the best decision!
Thank you ❤
I’m glad you made this video explaining when it’s time to cut your losses. Sad that by his piece was so abused but good on you for valuing your time.
I kind of wanted to hear the squeak of the 3rd drawer though 😫
Thank you for your kindness and understanding.
The squeak was unbearable. Like a high-pitched scream 😅
You're a smart lady to pass on something so far gone as this dresser. It's one thing to grab a piece like this to practice on if you're trying to learn how to do a bunch of restoration methods, quite another if it's a piece to sell. You'd make a better living working in a sweatshop! No criticism from me, I think you were very smart to walk away from this one. But, that said, I can't wait to see you try the transfer on a piece in the future!
I really appreciate that, Jenn. And you are totally right.
I'm excited too!!!
Hi Holly, definitely not a fail!! Your works are awesome but that piece had alot of things that needed fixing. I agree that it wasn't worth the effort.
Thanks, Carlos!
Holly, I don't know why anyone would criticize your work ethic or decision here. I think you made a wise choice. My only thoughts as I observed so much of the damage was possibly the anger in the child, adolescent or adult who abused this piece of furniture and its resulting repairs. Very sad life for that set of drawers. ♥️
Thank you. I really do appreciate that.
Yes, this poor dresser had a very hard life. As had the owner, I'm sure.
I agree, I'm not sure even the most experienced woodworker would have been able to successfully restore this but they could use it as scrap for other projects.
I'm a perfectionist so I wouldn't attempt this restoration either since I know it might end up looking good, but would never work like new.
Best case scenario, it could be painted to use as a prop in a play or as some kind of space filler in a display where the drawers aren't ever opened.
I totally agree. And I'm a perfectionist too. I'm working on moving away from absolute perfection, but this piece never would have gotten anywhere near that.
A prop would be a cool idea!
Some pieces at first glance appear to have potential, but upon further examination, you can see that the long list of repairs will never yield a profit. Thanks for the run through of how you decided not to proceed. This is your business, after all, and I totally respect your decision to walk away from this piece. I don't see this as a fail, but rather more of a sound business decision. See you soon Holly.🌷🌷
I appreciate that, Cath. Thank you ❤
I don’t blame you!! I would not want to do this one either 💕
Thank you 🙌
Sometime, you need to know when to walk away :) good choice!
I appreciate your understanding and validation ❤
This is my favorite to restore
I understand what you mean
Thanks, Kathleen.
I think we all have to realize our limitations. You could work on this piece for weeks and just be losing time and money. After all, you didn't even have to take the time to show us this piece. We could have just thought that you took this time off, but you were forthcoming.
No reason to feel bad. 👍
I really appreciate that, and I totally agree with you. Thank you for your feedback & kindness ❤
Oh Holly one more thing..
.this is in no way a fail on your part honey....no way! The fail happened WAY before you obtained it...
Thank you. You are 100% right.
I hope you didn't lose money on it. At least you didn't pour a lot of hard work and then realize it's just too much to be worth it. This makes good business sense.
Totally true.
Hiya one question how come you don’t use an undercoat on furniture before painting x
I almost always prime my pieces before painting, so I'm not sure what you mean. There are some pieces that simply don't need it (no potential for bleed through, scuff sanding the factory finish instead, the paint has primer already in it, etc.). You can find lots of videos on UA-cam telling you when to prime and when you don't need to.
Undercoat is different to primer . A primer is only used in new wood and an undercoat is used for wood that’s already been painted before x
Turn it into a book shelf....
This piece was definitely past the point of making a profit. It was totally a piece to refurbish or upcycle to keep and I'm happy you didn't throw it away. I had a dresser that looked good then got it home to find out it was terrible so I made it into a kitchen island for my daughter. But your dresser was too high to try that.
Like I said in the video, I truly think this piece was too far gone. I don't think it could be refurbished as a dresser, but maybe it could be upcycled to use as something else.
That's so cool that you were able to transform your dresser into a kitchen island. I love that.
@@ChicAntiquebyHolly that dresser could be a great learning tool for you to try new techniques. I love your channel. You're easy to listen to and to watch your transformations. All the best to you.
@@livingcreatively1 I really appreciate that. Thank you!
What a place to play tic-tac-toe
Hahahahahaha!
Wow she literally said "No mean comments" and y'all are out here leaving mean comments. Get a life.
I’ve seen so many other furniture flippers who have fixed worse than this. To me it looks like everything is doable on that dresser.
I never said it was impossible. It's simply not worth my time. That was the whole message of the video.
It is but she did state it was beyond her experience to. Besides most are in itfor a profit. This dresser was definitely a keeper project and as she stated as well she wanted to sell it
Just experiment when you have time,,,try different colors stains,,before you pass it on,,use it to learn from,,then give it to someone who can use parts of it,,whatever
I'm not interested in doing that, nor do I have the space to do so, but thanks for watching!
Well I know I'm an Internet Stranger but I feel like you need my opinion on how disappointed I am in you for passing up on this piece even though I know nothing about the situation and I'm not an artist. My opininion is very important and I am very smart, trust me.
😂😂😂
Hope you didn't pay for that!
The time lost is worse than if I lost money on this. I can't make that time back.
Bologna! you’re an artist you could’ve salvage that piece of furniture. would’ve taken effort but the rewards would’ve been great nothing was that far gone I’m very disappointed in you
Luckily I'm not seeking your approval. Thanks for watching at least some of the video!
